- arrenlex, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13Or you could use SuperKaramba.
- spiffytech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8SuperKaramba would be great... If it had people making more than new ways to see your CPU usage. It's just not the same as the wide support for Dashboard.
- brokencrystal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1SuperKaramba doesn't like GNOME very much.
- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28When did SuperKaramba start running Apple Widgets?
- kamandu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23that will be a feature of KDE 4.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thank GOODNESS for Compatibility.
Now the only question is, how is he getting around the Cocoa-enabled Dashboard widgets? - origclubsoda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Arent OSX widgets essentially HTML and Javascript?
- TravisS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Mostly yes, some of them do have parts written in Cocoa, but I'm not sure if those ones would work for this.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So are Yahoo! (Konfabulator) widgets. Well, actually they are HTML + JS + extended JS API
- yonis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually Yahoo! (Konfabulator) Widgets are a mix of a custom JavaScript API and XML.
In some Windows Widgets, shell executables and COM scripting are included, and on Mac OS X Widgets, people will sometimes use shell executables and AppleScript. However, these are, for the most part, fairly rare occurrences because the JS APIs contain most of what you need to get things done. You can't run the bazillion radio Widgets from the Widget Gallery in Jackfield though, for example, because they require COM scripting to do what they do.
Before you ask, I work on the Yahoo! Widget Engine team as a Widget designer/developer. :-P
I can't get into the site, but it will be interesting to find out if Jackfield supports the new flat file Widget format we introduced in version 3.1.
- Minkoff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3http://www.duggmirror.com/
Bah, that doesn't seem to be working either. :(- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3http://duggmirror.com/linux_unix/Run_Apple_DashBoard_Widgets_on_Linux
- diggmaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The page got dugg even before duggmirror could mirror that? That was fast
- kypen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6If someone has found a similar utility for Windows, I would be most obliged if they posted an application name or better yet, a link.
Thanks! - espek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Now I finally have the last excuse I needed for throwing my dual 2.0 G5 in the trash!
Linux, here I come baby!- plncrzy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Don't trash it, send it my way. I'm sure I can find a good use for such a box.
- skidogallard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Don't throw it away! Give it to me!
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9or Install YDL on it. (or ubuntu or something)
- espek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1HA HA! You did not see my invisible tags. You are defeated! Ha-Ha.
- agentstewie, on 10/12/2007, -13/+0its good that there is more and more progress of linux everynow and then
- murloSad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I love my gnome but the mac widgets look so much better than *most* gdesklets, so I'll have to try this at home.
don't use KDE so I'm not too familiar with superkaramba. - fungifred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I am pretty sure that was sarcasm. I honestly doubt that any one is that eager to leave a platform but is holding onto it for one simple thing like OS X Widgets.
- iluvdrbonner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1they are really cool and helpful and I would assume once you get used to having them you wouldnt really want to just throw it away.
- Rochmndx, on 11/01/2007, -5/+6SuperKaramba is pretty good stuff, but I still think that Yahoo! Widget engine is easier to use (I [ovbiously] dual-boot Win XP and Kubuntu).
I can't wait for KDE4. From what I've seen, it's going to be head and shoulders over mac or windows in terms of integration, eye candy and usability. They are going to seamlessly integrate the widgets with the panel items (so you can drag panel applets right on to the desktop). KDE4 should be out some time next year.- suprchunk, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Yeah it was pretty obvious that you dual-booted those two EXACT OSes. You didn't need to tell us though, because it was really that obvious. Someone probably would have said Win95/NT/98/2000/Vista and Gentoo, or Ubuntu (or one of the hundreds of others) just to be an ass, but the rest of us knew exactly what you run. Thanks for the enlightening post with the added knowledge you brought to the table about the subject at hand, and all the speculations/rumors. That helps.
Keep rocking that OSX and TurboLinux you run. Oh wait...

- uberlaff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10can't wait until they get this in the Ubuntu repositories... cause I am definitely feeling lazy right now.
- Sithlrd, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1This is like putting 1 karat diamond earrings on a baby girl.
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Um, I hate to tell you, but the whole thing isn't very good. I'm no expert programmer, but the fact that the toggle script refers to the guy's home directory (as do parts of the actual program) and that he tries to concatenate a string and tuple at some point during the course of the program shows that maybe the thing isn't the most solid piece of code ever.
- rbtopp, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7why don't you write a nice program like this then?
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd like to see your version 0.1 software. The guy's open sourced it for a reason, people can download the code and make it better.
I can only think of a time or two I've actually been so disgusted in code quality that I've turned down an open source project (mostly relating to some GPS code that was open sourced in 2002 from the government, which is hilarious all in itself). Especially one this early in its life.
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That is the kind of things linux needs to attract people more people :).
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the discussion on the ubuntu forum is that this isn't quite right for the main stream just yet
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Remember that Jackfield is not stable yet and may change daily until it is."
- maxkelley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Errrrrrr... how do we view this? duggmirror isn't showing the full thing, and I really want to try this.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hope things like this support xcomposite. Gdesklets still doesn't (last time I checked).
- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it works fine with it. i ran it right next to beryl
- plagiats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg just to show macfans that it's just a matter of time before all the fancy feature they were crazy about get ported to Linux.
(Meanwhile, for now this is quite "pre-alpha" software)- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and apple in a few years will steal allot of linux feature like beryl
- jsusanka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why?
we had gdesklets and superkaramba for years now. they both have a huge number of "desklets" available and integrate nicely with their desktops.- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1codeing for those widget engines involves allot more. almost anyone with basic html and some reading can make a dashboard or yahoo widget
- launchpadtt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now all we need is for this to run SuperKaramba widgets and it would be perfect. It's still very early yet though.
- MrDaniil, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Its nice, but just like any other UI in Linux - it looks like crap.
