- kazamx, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6LOL, Freespire is Ubuntu with codecs and some crap. Freespire hates Freedom, check what you can do with your Freespire CD compared to an Ubuntu* one. Freespire restricts you, Ubuntu releases you.
*or any other distro - avram2002, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4Freespire has no more community than Linspire does. It is an infected Ubuntu derivative that has signed an agreement with Microsoft acknowledging Microsoft's assertions that patent infringement DOES exist. They take it upon themselves to encumber GNU/Linux with an EULA (how like the Microsoft they have become) and bend knee to MS on behalf of others whose software they distribute. Mandriva, Canonical, Red Hat, et al., have not knuckled under, so use one of those distros and leave this festering pile of excrement to rot.

Go ahead and enjoy it while you can. With QT going GPLv3, meaning that KDE will follow, Freespire will no longer be permitted to use the K Desktop Environment do the the Microsoft Interoperability license agreement that prevents companies that made deals with them from using GPLv3 software that interacts with their proprietary crap.
Microsoft added this clause when Stallman found a way to exploit the patent agreements. That's part of the deal. Microsoft can change it whenever they want to. The distros can't do damn thing but accept it. - Spr0k3t, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1I beg of anyone reading the comments here, kazamx and avram2002 have nailed the issues of Lin/Freespire. I couldn't care less what your personal weapon of choice might be, just stay away from those who have signed the legal racketeering contract with Microsoft. Linux is about freedom, and Freespire is about as free as OOXML is open.
