- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Because what we need on TV right now is campaign ad parodies that will fill the void (in my heart) that the real campaign ads left behind.
- cwalk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19"Not my new bike!"
- systemghost, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Yes, someone should get on the phone with IBM and tell them what a big mistake they've been making all these years.
dot dot dot. - Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I tried, but they just kept saying things like "who the hell are you?" and "why are you calling us?"
- Hale, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Was that supposed to be funny?
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Haha! Thanks for that. http://boycottnovell.com/2006/12/09/red-hat-videos/
The first among the two videos is incldued as well. - knid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16HAHAHAHAH OH TAHTS SO FUNNAY!
Ok, no, it's not really. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I don't get it...
- Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -12/+22Consumer: Linux?
This won't make it on TV as many people don't know or don't care about linux. - lulutv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8No they wouldn't. Check out the Miller "President of Beers" ads, and the Budweiser ads. You can mention your competition in advertising.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Every time is Microsoft conspiracy time. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you don't have a reason to be paranoid.
- AlphAssassin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16and that's unfortunate.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It won't make it on TV 'cause it isn't real. Read the YouTube description:
Red Hat believes attack ads are nauseating. But if they didn't, they might try something like this. - Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Probably because it was done by an amateur... sigh
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Gentlemen, get your tinfoil hats ready!
It's Microsoft conspiracy time! - SundayBrunch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Red hat man is a pedofile.
- bigtomrodney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7We don't need the Unix wars again. Let's all just worry about getting the job done and leave the FUD to those other guys.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Linux users are phobic about being considered "mainstream" like it's some insult that they might be grouped with someone just wanting to get something done, or someone just wanting to play a few games. they consider these people idiots, or below them.
They are the reason linux will never catch on in the same way. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18Hi i'm Linux. I have a crappy microphone... oh and ***** Microsoft.
- Simon80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You say that as if Windows has never interfered with people getting stuff done, and we both know that that's pretty far from the truth. In fact, if you have a fresh Windows install and a fresh install of any decent desktop distribution, it will take you a fraction of the effort to get everything you need installed so you computer can play back multimedia files, view java, flash videos, make VoIP calls, do office stuff, log onto IM and IRC, etc.. On Windows you'll have to hunt down all sorts of Setup executeables, and click through the install wizard for each one, one at a time, whereas, on Ubuntu, you just surf through a list, selecting everything you want, hit apply, and then, with no user intervention, stuff gets downloaded and installed for you.
- digga, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I think it should partially be on TV.
- lulutv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Or the "your cheating heart" ad where the Coke delivery guy gets caught on security camera grabbing a Pepsi. They use the competitor's logo and products. They did a follow up where two delivery guys are in a diner and swap drinks and the Coke guy wants to keep the Pepsi.
- David513, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I can't stand Microsoft, but that ad comes across as very, very amateur. It's an interesting effort from an amateur, but it wouldn't be effective if it were actually used. It's mostly something that's going to be funny and effective to those who already like Linux. It wouldn't change anybody's mind.
David - chmod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Which part?
- JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Apparently this Pepsi ad got banned, but it's a great ad nonetheless:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xqxtDDvgME - Tetraca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It'd be perfect if it had a more dramatic movie commercial tone to the voice and excessive use of a base drum at the end of each sentence.
- Jedeye459, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I put ubuntu on my dad's computer... he doesn't even know the terminal exists. OpenOffice, Fire Fox, and Rhythmbox, seems enough for the average user to me.
- Jedeye459, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2595 diggs, only 259 views on youtube. Seems we have some itchy trigger fingers here on digg :)
- Ademan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@systemghost
I hope you know the story behind IBM picking windows... - chapium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The average person would buy a new computer rather than install OS X, Windows, or Linux.
- h3r0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not Funny... I say that enough to my English Teacher's Crappy Jokes...
- arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That would *almost definitely* be Capn' Immy's voice... formerly of PointlessAudio.com & LickMySweaty.com fame.
"Capn' Immy" is aka Kevin Pierera, who now hosts 'Attack of the Show' on G4 sans Kevin Rose, Digg's founder. (An archive of some of Kevin's other work can be found here: http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/5360/Pointless+Audio+Episodes+1-33 ) - Simon80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I saw that Pepsi ad on television..
- wolf08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What about all of the election tv ads? Many of them were bashing other candidates.
- sanguinemoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ok, by that logic let's travel back in time to ~1995 or so.
Consumer: WTF? World Wide Web? I never heard of that! The B movies are coming true! Giant spiders building webs across the world!
1950:
Consumer: WTF? Little people in this glowing box?!?
1900:
Consumer: WTF? This is like a carriage. It moves, but there are no horses!
But people have a remarkable ability to catch on to new products and services very quickly. A linux ad on TV would work at least to some extent by letting people know that it exists in the first place. Not all marketing is even directly expected to make a sale, some is just to let consumer know that X product is available. - OhJay, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Right. That makes sense because it's a lousy ad and the voice over work sounds like it was recorded in someone's basement.
- fabiolover2002, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The key is, you put it on there. Ask the average person which install they prefer, OSX or Ubuntu (including Nvidia drivers).
- dr3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0uh .. i had X-Lite doing VoiP fine after a single install .. I didn't have to "hunt" for nothin'
- SundayBrunch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3That big kid just threw the other off the bike, lmao.
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I think that TV stations should start open sourcing air time for ads so anyone can use the time!
/sarcasm
/i love Linux, but lame. - dinkola, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yet another bit of marketing proving that the Linux community dont have a clue about marketing and the user experience. Dont get me wrong, I used Linux every day for development ... but these things are so stupid. This add basically says 'I am being bullied'. Why on earth would anyone want to be in a group of people being bullied. Its like an ad for a bunch of cry babies. How about showing off something amazing you cant do with Microsoft products but you can on Linux.
- fabiolover2002, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Digg me down, I know this is off topic but all I know is that most distro's of linux, like Ubuntu will never be a viable competitor for normal people. I being a HUGE NERD love Ubuntu and it's infinite customization options. But rest assured for the average joe to enjoy an operating system it has to be rock solid, fast, and extremely simple. That is why I recomment OSX to normal users. Because let's face it my Dad, Mom,, brother, cousins, and aunt would never want to open up a terminal.
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2RedHat has lost my respect. Are they trying to start new Unix wars? Novell and openSuse have brought many innovations to linux and have kept them open source. XGL, banshee, f-spot, slab... all the the new developments on the Linux desktop in the past 2 years that all distros use.
- Justinguder2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Microsoft is better than linux.
- Darcy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Those poor wittle Linux victims, they just want to do good for the world but that big nasty evil Micro$$$$UUUUXXX won't let them. I have never recovered from that traumatic incident back in 2001 where that nasty man ballmer called Linux a cancer. I'm still shaking with rage.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2This - and the other adds are GREAT :)
(I`m an RHCE since y2k :) - blogger123, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Oh no.
Microsoft is going to "bully" us (the linux community) and take all the cool stuff (like bikes) that we made and make it their own.
We should have seen that one coming. - Waterrat, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4 Very interesting...Good Digg btw.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Linux will never be to the average consumer what Microsoft is. I would be surprised if they ever even managed to get a commercial on TV. Basically, what I'm trying to say is... SCREW REDHAT!
