- D3koy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Yeah, plus it's called Raptor...that's like extra cool points
- Acglaphotis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Am i the only who immediately thought of xkcd at the word "Raptor"?
- niallabrown, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Great work! I love this.
- mrmacky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Seems nice in concept, can't wait to get my hands on it, this KDE release is making me think of getting rid of Gnome. :O
- puelocesar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I agree with Schestowitz, Pinheiro always comes with great things.
And this is an area of user interface that always lacked a good solution, I always hated windows menus, always hated the kde menus, more than windows ones, because of the clutter, and didn't like very much gnome menu, but it was better organized until now for me...
Now, this Raptor is a great improovement! I'm just curious to see how good will be the implementation
Keep the good work man! Kde4 will rock because of the inovative way to do things! - schestowitz, on 11/01/2007, -6/+20Another ace from Pinheiro. Keep 'em Koming!
- pooptaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I guess KRaptor just doesn't have a good ring to it.
- sebzzz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Simply awesome!
- purpmint008, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11KDE4 is looking too good to be true.
If this continues then I might actually use it over xfce4... - jellygraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I've got high hopes for KDE4 *fingers crossed*
- alexlafreniere, on 10/13/2009, -1/+9Damn, beaten to the punch. Good work mate!
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9That clear border around the windows... I swear I've seen that before somewhere... just can't put my finger on it, oh well.
- drizek, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Oh, you use Enlightenment? Ya, the Crystal theme for the e16 WM had transparent window borders. Came out several years ago.
This port to KDE 3 came out about 3.5 years ago. http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Crystal?conte ... - emehrkay, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9So this is like launchy for windows or quicksilver for osx?
- patpi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6this is going to be included wit KDE4
- patpi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5or like http://katapult.kde.org/
- antitab, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Dugg because I want the word "vaporware" to continue to be further devalued until even fewer people take it seriously.
- martalli, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8It could be, if Apple allowed the UI to be a little more configurable. That is simply a trade-off on configurability vs. consistency. I prefer that we have more configurability options.
- sethosayher, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Pretty neat...I wish my Mac's Dock was more like this.
- mfearby, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7You know, as much as this might look cool in screenshot form, I don't really think something as categorised as that would be really useful at the end of the day. Sometimes I think a simple menu like Windows 95/98/2K/XP or the Apple menu when it included an applications menu item is as complicated/bloated as it needs to be.
I do have great hopes for KDE 4, though, coz I can only get so much mileage out of XP and Apple haven't figured out how to price their machines properly yet, or even to improve with OS enough that I might want to use it day in and day out. - lengau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4With KDE4 it's policy not to add a K to the Appnames.
- keyo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This is great, I hate tree/expanding menus like xp/gnome/kde3 because they fill up my whole screen eventually. I like the way this keeps everything within that small space and it's more simplistic than novell's kickoff menu.
A few questions though...
Are the pics mockups or real?
Will the raptor menu be included in beta3 which is to be released in 3 days (10th)? - icsbase, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"We'll see, but up until now, KDE is just as lame as Gnome. The UI is Linux Achilles heel. Everything is just a knockoff of Windows or Mac. I wish Linux would get a desktop that just kicked ass and stopped trying to immitate."
It is Windows which imitates everything else these days. Tides turned in -98 when Linux desktops already had virtual desktops and few years after that, transparent windows and cool looks which Windows only had in Vista. Also linux desktop systems aka window managers have been extreamly customizable for long time and have had innovative inventios. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cool+l ...
You can get similiar effects to Windows but NOT all and NOT from Microsoft. - keyo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yea I agree, they have hard to remember names. Argg I can't remember what its called, that one that starts with K...
But hey, kongratulations for the word raptor does not have 1 K in it. - marx2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wow, this actually does look really nice. As long as it doesn't slow the system down more than the menu system it's trying to replace (I'm guessing K Menu), and you don't need to have compositing on to use it, I'm sold. Though I like K Menu, something different (and less resource intensive/buggy than AWN) is a welcome change
- J2002uk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Wow - In general I really prefer gnome to KDE, one of the main reasons is because I prefer the gnome menu, but this actually looks like a real improvement. Not to mention that it also looks awesome. Now if only they could rename all those K apps and it would totally rock
- codyman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Wait, is this going to be included wit KDE4 or is this something separate...?
- rville, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1Wow, this actually looks original and not another rip off from some other OS
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, that must be it.
- inkswamp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Application menus are so late-90s.
- Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I was waiting for that reference...
- hockey, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I am a KDE fanboy. KDE4 is going to be the greatest thing ever second only to Chuck Norris.
- marx2k, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2So it's like masturbating to porn?
- enzomedici, on 10/17/2007, -6/+2We'll see, but up until now, KDE is just as lame as Gnome. The UI is Linux Achilles heel. Everything is just a knockoff of Windows or Mac. I wish Linux would get a desktop that just kicked ass and stopped trying to immitate.
- Cipher054, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2still kde4 stuff is vaporware ????
- thespudmall, on 11/01/2007, -9/+3Praise Raptor Jesus!
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2As long as everything is sorted with tags, I'm fine with that.
If it still uses folders: ***** it. - YamiJim, on 10/17/2007, -10/+3KDE is like cyber-sex, by yourself.
