I'm 99% sure there's reasoning behind the "outdated" layout (If I remember right, it's a dislike of "Web 2.0"), admittedly 10 years ago it's unlikely such a site would have 4 dedicated servers behind it..
(On the subject of the servers, I'd be interested to see how everything is setup, what software etc their using - particuarly how their getting the data from the servers to the lights)
