- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/20/2007, -4/+29I would be interested in trying the Demo for Linux. I would love to see game developers start supporting the platform more so I don't have to keep that partition of XP laying around.
- screwattackthis, on 10/14/2007, -2/+21What person in their right mind would want to use Windows for anything.
- smartalecks, on 10/15/2007, -4/+17http://www.warsow.net/
War§ow is a great multiplayer fps based on the Quake II engine, for linux, mac, pc, etc... its got a really great cyberpunk style and gameplay. Lots of fun :D. Not really like Quake Wars but still! It's free. - TeacherOfHeroes, on 10/14/2007, -0/+10Problem is, as long as people keep XP partitions around, they'll keep buying games that are windows only, and the game makers won't notice/care.
As old as the phrase seems to be getting, the only way to get games for Linux is to vote with your wallet. = - skoruppa, on 10/14/2007, -6/+15hmm something like quake4
sh etqw-1.1-demo.run (or double click if chmod = +x) -> accept -> next -> done.... i know this is bit to hard for you -_-" - Greywhind, on 10/17/2007, -0/+8Good point. That's why I don't have a copy of Windows at all. I hope more people will do the same in the future.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -6/+14don't think ill need it...im gonna buy the game for linux anyway
- NoTiG, on 10/15/2007, -3/+10hmmm Quake wars or Unreal 3... decisions decisions
- jcaino, on 10/14/2007, -0/+7Yes, but its all baby steps. Linux is just about there. Stuff like this will only aid it - with the opening of graphic drivers, steps will be able to be made to produce more stable and effecient drivers. DirectX isn't the only game in town.... It's a ball that has a nice decscending slope in front of it and it's already moving.
- twelvedogs, on 10/14/2007, -0/+7Good news, i've only got windows 2000 and have been wanting to get into this one. now if they'd just release the linux ut3 demo i'd be ecstatic.
- haterofps3, on 10/14/2007, -1/+7Not a ***** reskin but it feels like BF2142 for sure.
- vinbob, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5Digg didn't let me post the full link for QW:ET under Wine post.. lame...
But it's over here -> http://vinnn.blogspot.com - vinbob, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5In the meantime you can play the Windows ETQW demo in Wine no problem...
http://vinnn.blogspot.com/2007/09/now-one-really-c ... - inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+4Not only do they run on Linux, they release the sourcecode under the GPL after some time has passed and they are using the next gen engine.
They have already done this with the original Doom 1 & 2 engine, Quake 1, 2 and 3 and Carmack said it will happen with Doom 3 although hes not clear on exactly when (I assume when the tech5 engine is used in a game).
Whats more they removed the cdkey check from Quake 3 online play :) - nixfu, on 10/14/2007, -0/+4I am a pretty hard core gamer and do all my gaming in Linux, there is actually quite a bit of gaming to be done on a Linux system. Mostly popular FPS games are native, and some stuff can be run via WINE and the classic console/arcade emulation scene where there is some damn fine gaming to be had, is quite strong on Linux.
- picklesbubbles, on 10/15/2007, -2/+6Having played Quake Wars and Unreal Tournament 3, I thought UT3 was *much* cooler. I thought I heard they're getting a linux version as well.
- nixfu, on 10/14/2007, -0/+4umm...
$ sh sh etxxx-demo.run
How hard is that? If its too hard, just double click on the file.
Man..this linux stuff is soooooooo hard. - YamiJim, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3i need the repos, NOW
- linksus, on 10/31/2007, -3/+6DONT u dare bitch and moan about how people dont do enuf games on linux... Please can we take these few moments anda congratulate ID software and Raven on a stern job.. Thanks guys. you are all on the forefront of gaming..
- daftman, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Yes everyone who knows how to use Linux.
So I don't expect Windows users know how to do that. - patm1987, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3I'm better with the GDF scoped assault rifle than anything on the strogg side, but I have yet to figure out how to fly anything but the jump pack. The balance issues probably just appear because the sides are so different, I was under the impression that GDF were over powered since they seemed to have more all around focused and accurate weaponry as opposed to some of my friends who think the GDF weapons are too slow and underpowered.
I liked et:qw better than battlefield 2, but I could probably attribute that to a minor fanboyism to ID ip and the Quake universe (lets forget that Doom3 existed, shall we?). - arjie, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2OpenArena's on the quake 3 engine, no?
- renegadeafk, on 10/14/2007, -2/+4lols tats a realy nic post u have ther
- andycr512, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2"And everyone is supposed to know that, right?"
Everyone who has any business using Linux does. If you don't know how to do that, I suggest you pick up a "Linux for Dummies" or similar book. You do actually have to know how to use your OS in order to use your OS. Shocking, I know.
"pwned....."
Wow, how old are you? Who on earth over the age of 14 uses "pwned" in written, non-chat conversation? - championchap, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2I only use it in "RL" because I like how it makes people cringe.
- VargVikernes, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1They did not remove the CD key check in Q3.
- DontSayFanboy, on 10/14/2007, -2/+3that looks awesome, but sadly, no mac support.
Although I do enjoy open arena for some good, free mac gaming based on the quake 2 engine. - sproket, on 10/14/2007, -5/+6It's not a bad game but it favors the Strog over the humans. Because it's not balanced it kind of sucks for non-clan type games.
- inf0, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1What a horrible game to begin with...
- Z3r0t0l0rEnCe, on 11/01/2008, -0/+1Must be a M$ user for that comment!
- screwattackthis, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Well the full version of Quake4 required you to copy over files from the CD. The installer should do this automatically, IMO. Not hard, but not necessary.
- nixfu, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1UT1 is better than them all.
- skoruppa, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Newest installer for quake4 copy files from dvd automatically.
- Endpoint, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1ETQW is an awesome game & there are plenty of people playing it online (UK point-of-view). Team play is key to a win, and the objectives system focuses people rather than the BF2 system where everyone just b*ggers off to different parts of the sprawling map. If some maps seem unbalanced then Splash Damage will no doubt tweak them slightly in future patches, but I think they're fine as is TBH.
- zeroepoch, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Same here. I buy id software's quake games for that reason, they run on Linux. Even if they do get kind of old after a while.
- ubergeek09, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Sweet, they need to make a lot more games that natively run in Linux, if they did I would probably ditch having Windows altogether.
- championchap, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1I love Linux, but he's right.
And not just "the average computer user" will opt for the click to install option, i consider myself to be more than just an average user, yet i still prefer the click to install approach. Linux is great because of all the options it gives you, it really is your machine that you can do whatever you want with.. but with things like that, it really is harder to type than double click. - Atomic1fire, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1well
game companys could start selling their games in a branded repository
I mean all they need to do is upload some software and implement a payment system
imagine buying a pc and then being able to instantly buy and install games right after perchase - sqitso, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0You guys saying no one is playing are morons. The reason it looks like no one is playing is because you have an old or crappy router that is incompatible with the server browser. I just looked and my filtered servers where over 1300 with more than 4k players online. That was filtered.. I didn't want to wait for all the servers to refresh.
- skoruppa, on 10/14/2007, -0/+0he? But you dont have to use terminal -_-" i think this its bit strange for you too but if .run/.sh file is executable you can double click -> next click accept -> click next and done.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+0Casual Linux Gamers: get UT3, it's *vastly* superior. Hardcore Linux Gamers: get both - you OS needs your support!
- deadbaby, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1Me either. Felt like someone threw Halo into a blender with BF1942
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1Many distros released packages that did this automagically.
I know Gentoo's one did.
Also the DEMO won't need the files from the cd, only the full version. - paker, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1Tell that to the average computer user. Show them that command line or a Windows "click on install" and see which one they would chose to do.
- deadbaby, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1UT3 for Linux is going to ship at the same time the Windows version ships (on the same DVD, hopefully they put a "Linux compatible" logo somewhere on the box)
- rheaume, on 10/15/2007, -6/+5Now YOU can experience the suckage not only in Windows, but linux too!
Wasn't impressed with this title..
Now TF2, thats another story - AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -6/+4Netram - I beta tested it both times, in a humble attempt to see if it'd improve any. It didn't improve at all.
Please try again with the "I can see that you have no idea about what ETQW is", either that, or shut the ***** up with your fanboyism. - mrjit, on 10/15/2007, -6/+4I wouldn't even give it that much respect. The games a flop (etqw).
- ramsinks.com, on 10/14/2007, -4/+2Classic RTCW.
come get some. - BrandonMills, on 10/20/2007, -5/+2Quake Wars blows. They tried to be Battlefield 2 and Quake in the same game, and it didn't work. It *really* didn't work.
