- Benjigga, on 04/04/2009, -3/+284I heard you like Ubuntu..
- cannonball, on 04/04/2009, -9/+171This is about as cool to Linux users as WINE is to Windows users.
Useful, but whatever. - enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -1/+119what would happen if you use wine to install this on a linux?
- CLShortFuse, on 04/04/2009, -9/+111Yo dawg, I heard you like operating systems, so we put an operating system in your operating system so you can operate a system while operating your system.
- techdever, on 04/04/2009, -3/+90head asplodes
- sofaking30, on 04/04/2009, -1/+77but can Ubuntu run Ubuntu inside Ubuntu?
- EricGrigg, on 04/03/2009, -3/+79Looks like a perfect way to run your own persistent, anonymous login.
- PlancksCnst, on 04/04/2009, -0/+60Note this is not the same thing as Wubi where you can simply install Linux from Windows where after it's installed, you still have to either boot into Windows or Ubuntu. This lets you actually run Linux inside Windows, and it doesn't even need to be "installed"; it can run from a thumb drive if you want.
- mistergoomba, on 04/04/2009, -7/+57Wrong direction!
- sethleedy, on 04/04/2009, -0/+47For those who want to know.
The default ROOT password is "123456" - themastersb, on 04/05/2009, -3/+45SUP DAWG, WE HEARD YOU LIKE UBUNTU YET USE WINDOWS, SO WE PUT UBUNTU INSIDE WINDOWS SO YOU CAN UBUNTU WHILE YOU WINDOWS.
- KoldKalamity, on 04/04/2009, -11/+52beat me to it. win, win, and win. lawl.
- ArthurSucks, on 04/04/2009, -1/+40That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! The kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!
- DomZy, on 04/04/2009, -3/+41How will I run my windows programs? Maybe I should install XP in a vmware...
- pe5t1lence, on 04/04/2009, -0/+36Take off your pants. Even if that doesn't help the computer situation, at least you will be more comfortable.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -11/+47Operate while you Operate is better
- Albaster, on 04/05/2009, -2/+38SUP DAWG, I'VE HEARD YOU LIKE WINDOWS, SO I PUT WINE ON YOUR PORTABLE UBUNTU SO YOU CAN WINDOWS WHILE YOU WINDOWS.
- InfernoX, on 04/04/2009, -4/+39"Why is Windows 7 awesome? Seriously, what does it do that XP doesn't do? I know this sounds like troll bait, but it's not."
Improved networking, file browser, aesthetics, 64 bit with proper drivers, UAC, windows defender, improved taskbar, improved memory management, directX 10 and 11. - inactive, on 04/04/2009, -20/+48Not really, Wine is never useful for a Windows user because there's about 0 likeliness they're going to need to use a Linux box for their main work. On the other hand, a Linux user might need to use Windows programs that won't work in Wine and need hardware acceleration.
Or they might prefer Windows 7 (seriously W7 is awesome) - Eezyville, on 04/04/2009, -10/+37Windows 7 is awesome.
- djphatjive, on 04/04/2009, -4/+27And the point of this is???????
Oh, but I'm still downloading it! - 4321234, on 04/04/2009, -0/+22sıɥʇ
- TonyCubed, on 04/04/2009, -0/+20Doesn't work with Windows Vista/Windows 7 x64 (Not sure about Windows XP x64).
And when I say doesn't, I mean that it currently doesn't work with those versions of Windows yet.. - jetsetter883, on 04/04/2009, -0/+18no, you have to choose either ubuntu or windows upon boot.
- Ninnux, on 04/04/2009, -0/+16I've seen it done with Wine. Kind of weird, like seeing a mirror-on-mirror reflection.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -4/+19VirtualBox can do the same thing and is also portable....I can keep my virtual disk on my thumb drive and carry it with me too.
- countspankulus, on 04/05/2009, -0/+14Done...but now the other people in the lab are looking at me funny.
- cck2142, on 04/04/2009, -0/+14Is it wrong for me to get giddy after successfully using Command Prompt for the first time?
- LonelyTylenoL, on 04/05/2009, -0/+13The first time I used the command prompt and it worked, I
JIZZED IN MY PANTS!
So the answer to your question is...no, it's all right.. - ddfall, on 04/04/2009, -1/+14Ah, Space Balls... :)
- Samueul, on 04/05/2009, -0/+13Dammit,
Now i have to change the combination to my luggage! - BigglesPiP, on 04/04/2009, -0/+12otherwise known as colinux, can be used with any distro.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -2/+13ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH!
- KoldKalamity, on 04/04/2009, -0/+10already have vmware. is this any faster, though? beats me having to travel with my entire laptop if i want to run linux.
- TheEgghead, on 04/05/2009, -0/+10Xzibit flies out of your monitor.
- sloppychris, on 04/05/2009, -0/+10You get to divide by 0.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 04/04/2009, -1/+10This is actually pretty awesome. The problem with Ubuntu LiveCD's and Ubuntu Live USB sticks, at least in a school environment, is that you aren't allowed to reboot the PC or anything like that. However, with this we can still use Ubuntu (plus saved, configured apps like Firefox) on any PC we happen to be at while still running Windows.
- dextermanas, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9Don't expect this to be any better. If your school comptuers are locked down, then you probably don't have admin access either. You can't use this without admin access. And why does it need admin? Because it (silently) installs the necessary drivers/services required for the coLinux framework, meaning which, this app isn't a *real* portable. Real portables should be able to run on any system without requiring any admin rights.
- dextermanas, on 04/04/2009, -1/+10VirtualBox isn't portable. You need to install it on the host computer or make sure that the host computer has VirtualBox installed. The definition of portable is that everything runs out-of-the-box without any (manual) installation required.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -1/+9sexybobo: What use is that? Also keep in mind it's not really wine itself, just it's components. For example, no wine server, no wine launcher. Basically it's just an API.
- LoneWolf01, on 04/05/2009, -0/+8Level complete.
Your next task: Find the last digit of pi. - hotpuck6, on 04/04/2009, -0/+8BSOD in wine?
- ethana2, on 04/04/2009, -1/+9Been there. Even with Intel-VT enabled it was slow as crap. Come on, virtualized 3d acceleration!
- ileftfark, on 04/04/2009, -1/+9Me too, but that is not a possibility at places like work or at public terminals. This is great for running a solid distro wherever you want, plus having the added privacy bonus of leaving no trace of your information.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+8This project is kinda weird.
The documentation is sparse, and there isn't really much talk about how it's implemented. Not to mention the Sourceforge project is empty except for the installer and the site.
Anyone have some more info? - williamc, on 04/04/2009, -0/+7Nice find. Another worthy option is to use andlinux. It shares the Windows kernel and allows you to use both windows and linux applications native.
http://www.andlinux.org/ - yetAnotherCroc, on 04/04/2009, -0/+7use Virtualbox and get all those features.
- amirman, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7compared to ubuntu 9.04, windows 7 is okay.
oh an InfernoX - most people aren't comparing win7 to XP but compared to Vista, the fact that it works, and at a reasonable speed, makes it comparatively amazing. -
