- schestowitz, on 12/08/2007, -5/+53In the past year, Microsoft has been reguarly caught paying people to spit out such anti-Linux messages. In case you have not realised, they are also in Digg and the UNIX/Linux section is unsurprisingly losing attraction.
[let's wait for users kretik, flatfish, harlowmoneys, and others to complete their round and mod all my comments (including this one) down]
If you're reading this, be aware that Microsoft has been employing people to do what they call 'marketing' or 'evangelism' (nice words for "astroturfing) in Digg in attempts to defeat honest voices.
[cue personal attack and slander /] - niallabrown, on 12/08/2007, -1/+24It's very obvious that many of of the stupid, baseless comments slamming Linux on digg are by people who are paid to write them. Their claims are so far fetched, no reasonable person could really believe them. The comments this article refers to are perfect examples of people making claims that even the craziest Windows Fanboys couldn't believe.
- dezman2003, on 12/08/2007, -6/+17Wow I want that job except I'll insult macs. That would be a dream come true, get paid to enrage mac fanboys.
- BlueSkyfish, on 12/08/2007, -2/+13There are no such thing as Windows fanboys, only astroturfers and people who are annoyed with the "holier than thou" attitude of Linux and Mac fanboys(which I admit is justified). You'd have to be on crack to think that Windows is better than anything.
- Spiffness, on 12/08/2007, -0/+11This is news?
"Paypal uses Linux, blog commenter's say 'Linux sucks', some people suggest 'they in fact suck', more as the situation unfolds"
This article isn't worth anybodies time. - ChrisWalkr, on 12/08/2007, -2/+12Douche
- Remmy, on 12/08/2007, -2/+11@Schestowitz - I have no idea who you are or anything like that. What I do know is that flatfish, from the very first post here on digg, has stalked you obsessively. I just checked flatfish's comment history. As I said, I don't know you or flatfish, but that's a little creepy. As far as his comments about you getting paid to object to Microsoft/Novell. Yeah. Maybe from ads, but who would pay you to spread FUD in the Linux community? It makes no sense to me.
Sorry to go so far off topic with this, but you are the first person on digg I have ever seen with their own stalker. - cday, on 12/08/2007, -2/+11Roy,
I'd say if the astroturfers don't like you, that's quite a compliment. It means you've gotta be doing something right!
We'd all worry if they said nice stuff about you. :o) - mrjit, on 12/08/2007, -1/+9Jesus, blogspam, and ***** blogspam at that.
- qwuinc, on 12/08/2007, -2/+7It's also quite weird to see schestowitz's comments on upcoming stories get buried fast regardless how informative or on-topic they are (not saying all are).
Seems like the Digg system could be improved quite a lot; this seems to be one of the problems. - vladkov, on 12/08/2007, -0/+4How on earth did this make the front page?
- 35263526, on 12/08/2007, -1/+5Er... unless I'm missing something, the comments weren't actually anti-Linux; it was some moron saying that thousands of servers was worse than a few mainframes. Nothing to do with Linux, everything to do with [platform neutral] hardware.
- Walgreenz, on 12/08/2007, -1/+5Seriously lame, blog spam about user comments... Wow.
- trickleup, on 12/08/2007, -0/+3Minimalist even for blogspam.
- schestowitz, on 12/09/2007, -2/+5>As far as his comments about you getting paid to object to
> Microsoft/Novell.
You mean, like "PJ gets paid by IBM to write about SCO"? Or "PJ doesn't exist"? These are lies that various try to use to shoot the messenger and create legal risk.
> Yeah. Maybe from ads, but who would pay you to ...
The ads don't even cover the hosting bill (that was their purpose). Shane, who founded the site, is the one who wanted the ads (I have nothing to do with the ads or the hosting).
>... spread FUD in the Linux community? It makes no sense to me
I've advocated Free software for quite some time. If Novell-type deals were not a big danger to Free software and GNU/Linux, I would not stay up all night writing something that essentially criticises a Linux company and creates so much backlash against me. Did you know that I was running SUSE at home and at work _exclusively_ before the deal? Trust me. If you look deep at these deals and know the situation intimately, then you can see a whole new SCO in your hands. Give it some more months to 'cook', so to speak. It's a timebomb. The companies that signed deals with Microsoft were doing bad financially (even Novell had trouble with Fargo Bank just before signing the patent deal). When they run low on funds, they'll become what one person called "a shill, just like SCO." He said that in November 4th, 2006.
In general, you are encouraged not to listen to whatever arbitrary Diggers say because some of them are affiliated with companies and I haven't the capacity to squash the lies, let alone keep track of them. - trogdor282, on 12/08/2007, -0/+3Exactly. Most IBM mainframes run Linux!
- waykohler, on 12/08/2007, -0/+2I don’t see any mention of Linux in the comments, they complain about them using 4000 servers instead of a couple of IBM mainframes.
And those mainframes has the option of running AIX or Linux. - lengau, on 12/08/2007, -1/+3@Syphon8 - comparing Vista to System 6 doesn't count.
@sirbeta - I originally chose Linux for the reasons you listed above, but now I prefer the choice I have with Linux, as well as the ease-of-use with both upgrading and package management. - falstaff, on 12/09/2007, -1/+3If there were any other OS that could fill my needs better than Windows, I'd switch. I don't hate Linux, nor do I hate Macs. For those people whose needs they fill better than Windows can, they're fantastic alternatives, and I'm glad they're around if for no other reason than to push innovation in all the competitors. But if you think that Windows is necessarily inferior for every single person, or that any of the three can fill everybody's needs equally, YOU are on crack.
- inactive, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Awww, how cute. Are you a schitzforwits sockpuppet too?
- dezman2003, on 12/08/2007, -2/+3I sound more like an *****, but jerk is good too.
- illDecree, on 12/08/2007, -0/+1blogspam
- kazamx, on 12/08/2007, -4/+4You don't need to be a fan boi. I am not a fan boi of the company I work for, but as they pay me I do what they want. just like you
- lengau, on 12/08/2007, -1/+1As a Linux/Mac user, I wouldn't mind a job making baseless accusations etc. about Linux/mac. It would be fun to spew ***** for a couple of months.
- Professr, on 12/08/2007, -3/+3Wow, you sound like a jerk!
- melat0nin, on 12/09/2007, -1/+1"kretin" (sic)?
- Harrison88, on 12/08/2007, -1/+1That's $49bn a year or about $1.47bn transaction fees.
- baalzebub, on 12/08/2007, -6/+5lmao!!!
- pkonink, on 12/08/2007, -2/+1Never underestimate people's capacity for stupidity. I doubt many if any at all of these comments are by paid posters. Then again if that were proven I wouldn't be surprised either.
- sirbeta, on 12/08/2007, -6/+4I do think Windows is better than Mac and Linux--for me. Before the waves of both Linux and Mac fanboys dig me down below 100 for this comment, I have no notable reason to migrate to either OS. Your notions of security, stability, and virus protection fall on deaf ears to me. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to keep Windows out of harm's way from the big bad internets. As for stability, rarely ever had a problem, any problem I had was hardware related, which was promptly fixed. I have everything I need in Windows. My games, my software, everything. I don't need to migrate to Mac or Linux because frankly, there is no compelling reason to. But go ahead, dig me down anyway.
- schestowitz, on 12/09/2007, -6/+3qwuinc, there are 3 or 4 people at the moment who mod all my comments down systematically (and bury my submissions too, I suspect). They are not Diggers. They came after me from other forums where they even admitted doing this. I have complained to Digg about this. One of them has already had 3 or 4 accounts terminated, but he keeps creating new ones.
It's chaotic, but if I leave Digg, they'll get their way. Due to their slander, some people think I'm a troll. Look elsewhere for evidence, preferably in moderated forums that cannot be abused and gamed. - inactive, on 12/08/2007, -8/+2Windows is better than Mac OS. Hands down.
- Hitchhiker90, on 12/08/2007, -10/+2Who pays you to spit out such anti-Microsoft messages on Digg? Its ok to slam Microsoft but not ok to slam linux even if its true? And for the record, I did mod you down for having a stupid and off topic comment.
- flatfish, on 12/08/2007, -17/+3What about the huge quantity of articles submitted by one person, who shall go nameless, many of which are misleading and slam Microsoft, Novel etc?
Do you think he is being paid as well?
I do.
And BTW I am no Microsoft fan boi, having lived through the Lotus, Stacker, OS/2 wars and a direct casualty of Microsoft's predatory tactics - inactive, on 12/08/2007, -29/+1Yes, you've told us about this before:
http://www.digg.com/software/Microsoft_hires_stand ...
Oops, I just committed slander. Or something. I'm responsible for burying you 100+ times by gaming Digg. Riiight. I hear the black helicopters in the distance...

What is Digg?
