- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i hope this dosent get digg efected to much because i bet it is costing them a lot to put out theses cd's for free. i hope ppl dont abuse it.
- magik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea, please only request if you will actually use this! and try to "car pool", like see if your friends would like/are going to order these CDs anyway and you can order a bunch in one request.
- sheepshirts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just got my 5.04 discs last week... which were ordered who knows how many months ago when that was new.... you can expect to get these a good six months from now. .. meh
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Yeah, this is true... things like this would probably be better left off the front page of Digg.com"
The more interest in Ubuntu and GNU/Linux, the better.
true but this puts link directly to get the free cd's would proly be beter if it was a link to there main page and said you could get free cd's - zipmegabyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They'll be sent about a week after the release.
- next, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1geforceter: Don't worry, they won't call you.
I don't see why they make the name on the package your display name. Why did they even bother asking for my real name when I created a launchpad account?
Eh, not that I'm complaining. I heart Ubuntu. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, this is true... things like this would probably be better left off the front page of Digg.com
- doctar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something doesn't feel right. Why isn't the .org page updated as well.
I'm holding off. I might be paranoid. But it's better to be safe than sorry. - RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or if you need a massive amount of them to share and don't want to use your cd's/burner...
- PhAdE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How come it gives me a security warning when I try to go to that site? The certificate belongs to launchpad.net.
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol i just got my ubuntu 5.04 cd's this morning. time to reorder already?
- furiouszebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^^^
Same, is something wrong here? - Zerocool82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just got my Ubuntu CD's and I wish I got Breezy instead. I think you can get breezy still by letting your set up do updates and it my give you breezy. And if that doesn't work. You can go to the fourms to see how to run a command to do a internet install.
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a couple months ago i made a typo and put a 0 after the 1 and I recieved 10 ubuntu CDs, I have no idea what to do with them still.. :
- triont, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ordered them. Now gotta wait for them to ship!
- atbnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, my CDs are ordered.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's becouse you have to register with launchpad.net so that you can log in to their site and then order the cd's. I guess they share the userdatabase with launchpad.net!
But no worries....... it's legit! - WeetaBiX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ordered mine and for me mates...
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, it safe enough... the error is just because they're using a cert for launchpad.net on shipit.ubuntu.com.
I just ordered 20 PC + 3 64-bit + 2 mac CDS. I can't wait! - geforceter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Same here...have the security warning...using firefox 1.5 beta
- apollo2011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome.
Funny because I went there the other day to see if I could order and signed up to be notified by email when order were being taken. I haven't gotten an email yet, so I heard it first on digg!
I guess these orders won't be sent until the release is out? - jralabate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0got the same as burke did
- EarthBoundX5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome
- Bgoui, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how long do these usually take to ship
- wildkarde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hopefully it will not take 6 months to arrive like the previous ones.
- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ordered 20 pc 3 64 bit and 2 macs. I will be distributing all of these.
- vashchacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The interface to get the CDs in better now, however, it is harder to get Mac users to switch to Linux (usually) because they paid for an OS already, so they might as well use it. Awesome, none the less.
- Sh|fty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am just going to download them when it comes out, that means i get a 1 week before all of you who ordered it :)
- geforceter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ordered will the be any verificvation through Telephone .....???
i live in spore and gave them my number without any contry code....***** - kadiyan, on 03/13/2008, -0/+0how to get cds plzz help
- arzdb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just got my 30 Breezy CDs (10 PC, 3 64-bit, 2 Mac and a live cd/install cd for each), no muss no fuss.
- zone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mmm.. I always went to:
http://shipit.ubuntulinux.org/
but this digg links to:
http://shipit.ubuntu.com/
which looks kinda different, and also asks you to register with launchpad.net.
mmm.. *paranoid* - doorman444, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i got mine ordered
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh, last time I got 75 cd's in total. 50 x86 and 25 64bit.
[ordered] - anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00t w00t w00t!
- the-rip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone know when 5.10 gets released as an iso?? i ordered some cds for me and the buddies, but if its anything like the 5.04 cd ship time, ill get them when gas is $5 a gallon. wait that could be tomorrow, make it $50 a gallon.
- ivanjs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I ordered them, but God, hopefully it will be easier to install than my nightmare experience with Fedora. I'm now on my 12th attempt to get Fedora running on my PC. Here's to an easy install...
- Alaerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With the holidays coming up this would make a great "gift" for all your computer enthusiast friends. A great companion item would be The Open CD.
And NO I'm not cheap! Just trying to spread around the good stuff. - RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While I applaud the effort, time, and money they are putting into this, be aware that if you have a decent internet connection you are better off downloading the iso when it comes out. I ordered an x86 cd of the last release (when I still had dial-up), and got it so long after it was out that I had gotten cable internet and just went ahead and downloaded it weeks before it came. Like I said, it's a great thing they are doing, but I would do it only if you can't download it.
- sohmageek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ordered 5 PC 15 64 and 2 mac, The reason is I've been working in a shop and people have been asking me about 64 bit os's and I talked to one of the 4 guys that support windows XP 64 bit and win media center regarding the differences between the XP MCE and XP pro.
Even he couldn't recomend windows XP 64 bit until they have decent drivers. However I've told them they could attempt to try a linux flavor, this way I'll have discs on hand that they can try, either live boot or just try it. I also hope that this doesn't take months and months to arrive, I still have some of my old PC versions to get rid of, no one wants them, they're out there too much.
I will use them though ;) - BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Yeah, this is true... things like this would probably be better left off the front page of Digg.com"
The more interest in Ubuntu and GNU/Linux, the better. - ascheier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ordered 20 copies of the previous version about 3 months ago and they never came. I hope these ones do.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ubuntu is a nice linux os...I use the live cd...it's great when you want a break from your regular os and to mess around with. Until the linux communitty comes to one standard which is probably like 5 years from now there's no sense and getting confused over which distro to get since there are tons of em. Linux no where near a threat to windows since they can't get their act together and come to one standard and improve on making it better. My suggestion is try the live cd so you don't mess up your computer double booting and then get stuck trying to remove the double boot loader app.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i just tried installing kubuntu under virtual pc 7 on my mac mini and it gave a kernel panic. also some error junk about apci not functional. granted its not the nicest environment to be installing linux under, but i was slightly dissapointed. i'll give it a try under a regular pc sometime but i was not impressed with the installation method, it was very hands-off and that is unatractive to me coming from gentoo. hmm, i might have to give gentoo a try on my vp7 mac mini partition. =)
- phylk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is this really free, i dont want to get a bill 2 weeks later
- chrisbudden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Already on Breezy, but I ordered 5 cd's. Arnt they nice people.
