- dualboy24, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Its about time they did this. You hear about all of the big companies applying for copyright infringement about content/software why shouldn't the people that work hard to provide free software get the credit they deserve?
- Spr0k3t, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The super wonderful infallible digg comment system is jacking with the links.
- TechBharat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Grand beginning. More to follow, as many mis/take GPL as "cut n paste to propereitary' stuff.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I look forward to seeing more companies taken down (or at least outed) for using GPL'd source.
Honestly, I've had suspicions about M$ XP for a while now. (Might the XP stand for "Cross Products?")
I just feel as if there are many, many violations that go unnoticed. - jdmulloy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree they should get credit but I don't think that's the point of this. They are given credit on Monsoon Multimedia's web site. The point is that at the moment Monsoon is not distributing copies of the source code with the software. It may be that they haven't changed it at all and just used it in their embedded system so they figured they'd just let people get it from the busybox guys. However they are legally obligated under the license to provide the source code to anyone they distribute binaries to if it is requested.

I don't think that a request should be required. The GPL says that you should provide source with your binary, not that the customers should have to request the source to get it. A request only need to be done if the distributor uses the written offer option. - schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yes, that's weird.

- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -12/+4Oh, no. Digg the first submission of this news (several hours earlier): http://digg.com/linux_unix/First_U_S_GPL_lawsuit_f ...
C|Net is a Linux-hostile network (never mind the partnerships they have with Microsoft, but yesterday they gave the spot to a Microsoft lobbyist that attacked the EU), so giving them the pleasure would be unfortunate and unfair. Of course, this page is a dupe as well. - asspants, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2this wouldnt happen if you owned a macintosh.
it's george bush's fault
