- Nekiruhs, on 07/02/2008, -0/+49I wish they hadn't been forced to remove Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and True Combat: Elite, those were my two favorite games on the disk! I think I still have a copy of the ISO before they were removed though. I may upload it somewhere as a torrent if people get interested.
- n0odles, on 07/03/2008, -1/+21What a ***** comment.
- Ninjao, on 07/03/2008, -0/+17I doubt you have played any of them. Go ***** yourself.
- nubnub, on 07/03/2008, -0/+16Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory pls
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+15They could've included smaller games than that and fit a ***** more, and just dropped off a few of the large ones.
People aren't going to understand why there are only around 16 games. (Rightfully so, "one ton" is deceiving.) - Purin, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11WINE is not emulation.
- godsdead, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7This is a good step into showing people open source games =]
- diggcommentguy, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6If he hits 100 diggs he will upload! DIGG, DIGG!
- funkyou, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Most people running your Servers just cant stand anything else than *nix anymore :)
I can only speak of myself, being an Arch Linux user: I will never go back... - MechaFalcon, on 07/03/2008, -1/+7"My test system consists of ... two Nvidia 8600GT video cards connected by an SLI bridge."
Why the hell would anyone bother to SLI 8600 GTs? - mynameistux, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5WINE stands for Wine Is Not An Emulator.
- Zekarus, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4 I was almost digging you down, talking about how there are poor people out there that just cannot push $20 to $50 extra, but then I realized this.
SLI? - Kosher1947, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Sorry. I meant making WINE better, but it is too late to edit.
- crystaria, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Really not trying to be mean here but besides being free/open source, are these games actually good? or any mainstream games blow them out of the water?
- Ninjao, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Yes, give Savage2 or Nexuiz a try.
- DefaultGen, on 07/03/2008, -3/+6If I were in high school, I would be rejoicing.
- estvir, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4Mainstream games from a decade ago are probably better. For example, the million Quake wannabes.
- theaceoffire, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3O.o just your 4 cents?
- junaru, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Its Teeworlds, not Tree ...
- ubersolid, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I put urbanterror on a remastered lg-live, works great!
http://live.linux-gamers.net/?s=mastering - MechaFalcon, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Because the two 8600 GTs, if bought today, would cost around $120 with a mail-in rebate on one (you can usually only get one to go through). Even then, that's going for the cheapest thing I could find on newegg. Then there's the issue of SLI not actually living up to its full potential. In theory, you would think that two cards would be twice as good as one of the same card, right? Wrong. But even then, the 8800 GS and HD 3850 both trounce the SLI'd 8600 GTs, and would do so even if they were at their full SLI potential. They both do this at roughly the same cost (HD 3850), or a good $20-40 cheaper (8800 GS).
Basically, anybody who knew what they were doing (and I would like to assume someone with an SLI setup knows what they're doing) would not choose to SLI two POS cards when there's a single card that performs better for less. - godsdead, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Iv never played it, i was looking for a live linux gamers disk with the best FPS for linux, is Enemy Territory good?
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -2/+4The fact that they could fit what they consider a worthwhile sampling of Linux games on one DVD sort of suggests what we're all thinking when someone mentions "Linux gamimg."
- sodade, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Didn't you realize that, when you bought a Mac, you alienated yourself from the vast majority of computer users?
- Stonekeeper, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Buried as inaccurate. We all know linux doesn't have any games. Right?
- ronjohnson, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I have been playing enemy territory for 3 years, game is good. It obviously has dated graphics to today's standards but the game play is solid and still has a loyal following.
- Bicep, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1This DVD is AWESOME!!
However, after looking around a bit, (and pls correct me if I'm wrong) it seems that using wireless with the DVD would take some significant extra setup... this kinda sucks because a lot of people use wireless as their primary means to connect with their home networks. And most prominent Linux distros these days have full wireless support, it would be nice if this DVD did as well (hint hint).
Regardless, BIG Thanks to the people who put this gaming DVD together!! Great Job!! - brettalton, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I don't know, I'm not a hardcore gamer; You tell me.
- ronjohnson, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1They claim the that they can't distribute it via hard media. Supergamer still has it, guess they only do torrents making it soft.
- Ninjao, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Thats only on the Live DVD. Do you even know what that means? It means you don't install anything, which obviously can present some problems. Just download a normal copy, install it and play it. You nob jockey.
- bedouin, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Need a PPC version for my old PowerMac :)

Hi Shannon,
the problem with including Wlan is, that most wireless hardware need an additional firmware, which we may cannot include due to licensing issues. But we will try to include at least the needed configuration tools and the drivers which are completely open sourced in the next release.
Thanks for using the dvd and sending your thoughts.
kind regards,

It plays WoW exactly the same as on my Vista side. I already use FireFox almost exclusively, and have never encountered anything I need that Open Office can not do. And before someone jumps on it, the fact that my mouse does not do what I want is NOT THE FAULT OF LINUX... I think if I plugged it into a MAC, it still would not do what I want.
- mossblaser, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I couldn't say before but my MacBook will boot other linux distros just fine (Infact I am using a Linux-only macbook). Just hold C to boot from disk.
- chrisrowe, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Excuse the possible ignorance but as this is a live CD what are the chances of this booting up on an iMac?
- cpsutcliffe, on 07/03/2008, -8/+8Linux should stick to running the Servers we play on, they're really good at that.
- mynameistux, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2CLEARLY, you have never used linux on a desktop. cpsutcliffe
- Kosher1947, on 07/03/2008, -5/+0Look. First I have nothing but love for Linux, and I think it is good that we have a live DVD with tons of games; but in reality the best thing is to make the windows emulation to Linux better.
- darkharmonics, on 07/03/2008, -4/+1Open Source games suck because up till now they were also FREE. I foresee this changing (hopefully). It is wrong to think that Linux only runs open source games. That is just NOT true. Linux is growing very rapidly now that Microsoft has shown its true colours, and even if its not, I certainly wont be going back any time soon (Microsoft user since dos).
The best way to get more linux native games is to convince gaming programmers that it is worth their time. The second best method is through emulation (although wine is really a compatibility layer not an emulator). Wine works wonderfully (if but sometimes buggy) for running my windows only games. - nixdoctor, on 07/03/2008, -13/+2Let me say something everyone knows already:
"Games for Linux" is a myth because game producing companies do not want to spend their programmers' time developing games for a platform with very small market share. Given that, 1) There is no dearth of games for Linux, 2) Most of the games for Linux are free and open source, and 3) If market share of Linux rises, the games made for linux will also increase, just as the games made for Macs are on the rise these days with increasing market share of macs.
The definition of a "good" game varies as to what the user wants. Two years back I played Tux Racer and said to myself "what a stupid game", only to find myself hooked to it within two weeks.
Just my 2+2 cents. - Dylson, on 07/03/2008, -15/+1Don't get so defensive.
- Dylson, on 07/03/2008, -33/+3***** games for a ***** OS
