- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good idea, definately. The main thing that will end up blocking most companies from switching to open source alternatives to MS products is the simple fact that no one actually UNDERSTANDS what they're doing... they simply have memorized which buttons they need to hit and where to click. They don't know WHY, they just know what happens when they do. I see this all the time at work... we upgraded the system we use to input patient information... the only noticable difference is that now it looks and feels like a Windows program rather than a DOS program... but you honestly would think that we had put these people in front of a Linux command line or something.
- zerovertex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just watched the install tutorial. Roblimo is probably not the best candidate for the host. Also, looks like his personal machine. They should have installed on a fresh install of WinXP so even my grandma would feel comfortable installing OO.org after watching.... but hey, what so you expect for free. A big thanks to all those who put together these videos and to Newsforge for serving them up to the public.
- terafunker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OpenOffice.org is 100% legal, available for every major operating system, and readily can open and save .doc/.xls/.ppt and other document formats made ubiquitous by Microsoft Office!
It's great; plus, what have you got to lose if you try it? If you don't like it, just uninstall it. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now only if my school used openoffice I'd want to use it. Is it legal for openoffice to accept .doc format? I'd love something free, unlike MS Office.
- thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What OS is the tutorial guy running? I don't recognize it. There are Windows system tray icons in the corner, so I presume it's not a Linux environment.
- Inzoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool.. (even if the tutorials are not scripted..) ok he made a couple mistakes :P but other than that he did a really good work
- hass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It seems like the guy doesn't know that much about the program. I guess it would help people get started at least.
- Luke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good find!
- dlichteman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used OOo for about a year because I got fed up with the incompatabilities between the school word and my home version.....so I just use OOo on my USB key or laptop
- DiGiTaLFX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm not as useful as I first thought. I was expecting more of a "here's howw you do this because its different in OOo".
- ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great job Al!
You are like a geek machine! - Dispersion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Zomg someone teach me how to use a word processor it is teh difficult.
