- seand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Brilliant! I got tired of having various live cds that satisfied specific needs, and then attempting to locate them when needed. One DVD...why on earth has this not been done before?
Definitely worthy of a digg...or three. - Hyperion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Of course not, you don't just put the ISO files on the disc, they must be extracted first.
- myrdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not to mention, it's a direct quote from the site...
- xptical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What? No Gentoo? It's only like the third most popular disto out there. It also has a LiveCD system.
Although, in reality, it's much easier to customize a Knoppix image to do everything you want. Extract the live Knoppix to a partition. Chroot over to it and begin apt-get[ting] everything you want in a LiveCD. When you are done, mkiso it and burn it. Then you have one DVD to rule them all.
There are some fairly involved tutorials covering how to do it.
It's a cool hack, but not really useful in the real world. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Brilliant!
- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought it stood for "Dick Van Dike". You know, let me go grab my DVD disc?
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You have a 4.3GB USB stick? It's possible, but having a DVD would be a LOT cheaper.
Plus, there are many computers that don't boot from USB. - bobertfishbone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Before some wiseass grammar soldier comes in here, I have two things to say:
1.) It's more than likely the poster knows that DVD includes disc.
2.) We don't care. - kimzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet, I'll be using this. :P
- theplop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This can be very helpful when doign system diagnostics. I use about 4 Distrobuitons, and each one has its benefits. Now i can slap in one DVD and just leave it in my laptop dvd drive.
1. Auditor Security collection
2. Backtrack
3. Mepis
4. Whax
Hint: flip the dvd over when not in use, its always with your computer plus it keeps the computer from booting from it. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I know, he cant burn a DVD cuz he got a DVD-Rom
- mattdr488, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how do you execute the shell script in windows?
- aliashandle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how bout moving this over to a usb stick, just follow the steps as written cept the medium is a usb. Its easier to carry around.
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a really great idea.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could try running it in cygwin but if that doesn't work you really need a *nix to do it. For the least work (assuming you don't want to install Linux and can't burn from a live CD because you are using the drive to boot) I would boot from the new knoppix live DVD ( or run it in vmware/Qemu ) because it can write to an NTFS partition and create the iso, then burn it from windows. Probably not the answer you wanted but it is the easiest way I can think of.
- ravedave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why the heck are there more fullsized live DVDs out there? Why have 4 different linux distros? Shouldyou be able to cram all that crap into one or two?
- Izzie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2cause you need a DVD-rom reader/player to boot from your dvd-rom. and a dvd burner to burn it.
- Izzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a DVD burner + blank DVD-R is not that cheap either.
anyway why not offer both ? it could prove useful as not all computers have DVD readers - drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you can probably use cygwin
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1^^ well that just makes worlds harder :(
- bobertfishbone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Compelling argument, myrdog. I just suck at life.
- mattdr488, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks for the info trogdoor, i'll have to try that out
- sstidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It would be nice if it included BartPE.
- Sp00nMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm.. Here's a novel idea, how about someone CREATE this DVD and put it out on bittorrent for us to download. I don't have the time or patience to do all this manually. Would be a novel idea to support the Linux All-in-One Live-DVD.. heck call it "The Ultimate Linux Boot CD"
:) - WorldGroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"(assuming you don't want to install Linux and can't burn from a live CD because you are using the drive to boot) "
Just to note something; I know Knoppix 3.9 has a boot option so that the whole OS can be loaded into RAM and gives you back the usage of the CD/DVD-drive that you booted from. So, you can burn with the same drive you booted the LiveCD with. But, you gotta have like 2gigs of RAM or something.

www.casinodecisions.com - BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Now that is pretty sweet, too bad I can't boot from my dvd-rom...
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't get it -- can you put the .iso's in the /dvd directory and that's it?
- brandn487, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0why not?
