  • inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5[FTA] it was widely publicised a while ago that cafés in Kenya were moving to GNU/Linux [1, 2, 3]. It’s not so much about so-called “piracy” then; it’s not about goodwill. It’s about being more competitive and reduce adoption of Free software [/FTA]

    Annually? So over 5 years its $50 and seven years (as per XP) its $70 and so on. Soon they will pay 70% of the original cost. How nice of you Microsoft. Now you are a rental company.

    My question to M$ is this. What the hell are you going to do with boot time computers that are cheaper than your Operating system? I think you are clutching at straws trying to sell a polished turd as cheap until you realise the TCO is on par with a Company in the US.

    Even if it sounds like you are giving it away, you aren't. You are not nice people!

  • sepelester, on 09/05/2008, -5/+2This is sad, but how would you fight a competitor when they offer an equal product, FOR FREE!?

    They can afford the marketing, but a free product receive virtually no marketing. While it should market itself due to it's price, it's a question of availability. (in the sense that people should know it exists and that "free" in this case is not the "free with a foonote").
