- wallclimber, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4Because I work with a lot of people in education the issue of so many US schools being at the mercy of one company's $oftware products, during these difficult economic times, has been discussed a lot.
It will be interesting to see how continued spending of taxpayer's money for the use of MS software will be justified to the public in the future.
Many of us believe that, if there starts to be a shift to Free and Open software in schools, there will soon be press releases from Microsoft declaring that, due to hard economic times (and until things get better) they will be providing licensing to schools and government agencies for free. They'll be heroes.
To me, that's why it's so critically important to help educate people about the REAL differences between Microsoft's products and FOSS, not just the price differences. - ErickStevenson, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4Totally agree, specially in schools were funding is limited and also for developing/third world countries who can't affod the software license.
