- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What are you talking about? The reason that the source code isn't open is because the company's main goal is profit. There's nothing "selfish" about that - it's called business.
On topic now, as much as I love Ubuntu, I still have to keep Windows on my machine. As much as people don't like to admit it, Linux gaming is still in it's infancy, and as a gamer, you really need a Windows box. That and there are a few programs that I really like to use in Windows that aren't available in Linux (Photoshop - GIMP is good, but not the best, and Microsoft Office - I love OpenOffice, but MS Office is still better and I get it for free with my school.) - dickeytk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"both are written using compiled language"
ROFL - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's true, I just began a switch from XP to Ubuntu and it's already going great!
Until I get Wine working fine on Ubuntu, I won't be able to make a full switch, as some of my main programs are windows only sadly (I.E. Trillian, Soundforge, and loads of PSP apps) - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"but at the same time I love turning on Vista because it's stable and predictable"
More stable than linux?
.......? - Mikesnav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Front page. How pathetic.
- kubix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really though, I mean who cares if someone moves all of his computers to Linux... What difference does that make? Does that hurt Microsoft in any way? I'm sure they have bigger things to worry about than one person who doesn't use their product anymore.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1yes really. hundreds if not thousands of people make the switch every day. why the ***** is this on the front page?
oh... look... new second. - BitSlash, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3In before Microsoft bashing.
- djauto23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tried ardour? rezound?
whats psp apps, btw...? - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -16/+9I have fun playing with fireworks, that doesn't mean I want to replace my pillow with a firecracker though. Linux is the same way. I love that it's so raw and so full of potential, but at the same time I love turning on Vista because it's stable and predictable and sometimes I just want to sit down and enjoy what the computer has to offer and not worry about X crashing or the drivers not working. Vista is just stable and comfortable, like a favorite T shirt.
- dollyknot, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3No contest really, what people do not understand is how similar linux and windoze are, both run on the same hardware. Both are written using compiled language. The only real difference between the two OS's is that with windoze the source code is a secret, this is done for purely selfish reasons.
The incredibly sad thing is, is that if when MS released win 95, they had also released its source code, many many more programmers would have been able to work on it and improve it. Bill Gates might be the richest man on the planet but in the computer industry, he is one of the most hated, well done Bill. - saturn5, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Yeah, he's a real Microsoft fan. Good try.
