- alperea, on 07/22/2008, -1/+25FTA: "Shuttleworth is particularly emphatic about the need to conduct more extensive research on Mars, and the potential for Mars to sustain life—a possibility that he regards as "profound" in significance."
That's the only part about mars in the entire article, in case you're interested. - Archer007, on 07/22/2008, -2/+25How about getting PulseAudio fixed before Mars, hmm?
- schestowitz, on 07/22/2008, -2/+24Look up "Shuttleworth foundation".
- Metaleks, on 07/22/2008, -0/+12Ubuntu powered shuttle to Mars?
- PainToad, on 07/23/2008, -1/+10A free, stable, full featured, Open, OS could shape the world like nothing else.
- chicken101, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6The switch to pulse was so stupid b/c they didn't even include a way to change the volume of each program independently (which is the whole point of PA). There is a little gui program for it, but it is ugly and very limited. sigh.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Why do you ***** ask this every time. YES, IT "RUNS" CRISIS.
- trispear, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4That's not open sourcing windows. It's closer to a drug dealer offering you the first few hits for free to make you dependent.
- Megatog615, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4The point was to resolve the software mixing issues that were apparent in ESD at the time. Problem was, ALSA devs enabled dmix by default shortly before Hardy. I'm not a supporter of ESD or PA(PA has nice network streaming support though, and is what I would use it for); I'd rather just utilize my hardware's mixing capabilities with either OSS4 or ALSA.
- uggidi, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Ubuntu - the future is here, Open Source OS for Martian Life!
- NikkiA, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4He's hoping on martian open-source devs solving the problems with PA.

Because donating money to organizations to find cures for diseases, funding food programs, providing scholarships are not as effective in eliminating poverty as Open sourcing windows.
I knew Windows was expensive, but not so expensive that making it open source would eliminate poverty. - PainToad, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1It's all about equality, eg. what the $199 (one laptop for every child) Laptop program is trying to archive.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Yeah PainToad, because a laptop will cure cancer and feed children. I like the idea of Open Source windows as much as you, but don't suggest Bill Gates' charities are insignificant. Sorry... that was just a stupid thing to say.
- klitzbtc, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1No, because I've been running Ubuntu since you Ubuntu lap riders were testing beta versions of Longhorn thinking "holy ***** this desktop is going to be awesome".
- inksmithy, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Its called a meme, 1timeuser. The fact that you are upset about it means its getting to you. You have been got. Just like zorro.
Thats another meme btw. - oomfoofoo, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1Is that who pays you?
- Burn, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1Bill Gates doesn't even work for Microsoft anymore ;)
- MindTrigger, on 07/23/2008, -5/+3Why, because you suck?
- scenerio, on 07/23/2008, -5/+1Microsoft already condones a certain amount of piracy of their software. It actually allows them to keep pace with Ubuntu, open office, and Google Docs by building market share. This also has the benefit of allowing those who can eventually afford their software to buy it. See article http://www.economist.com/opinion/displaystory.cfm? ... or search for "Piracy Look for the silver lining"
- PainToad, on 07/23/2008, -10/+4Bill could learn alot from Mark Shuttleworth...want a real Charity Billy boy, Open Source Windows.
- connieLingus, on 07/23/2008, -9/+2mark...great job with the whole ubuntu thing and all that but geez get some looser jeans.
- mallikpo, on 07/23/2008, -10/+0ok so how exactly does this business model work and how do they reap profits???
- klitzbtc, on 07/23/2008, -15/+4Yea lets send Ubuntu to Mars, I'm rather sick of hearing about it on Earth.
