- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Please do this, because we haven't seen enough spinning cube desktop transitions. I'm kidding, I heart linux.
(but seriously, the cube is getting old) - strabes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32wow bury again. forget it.
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27whoops, bury.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Is there something you'd like to add to this discussion Mr. Strabes?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Wow, great. More youtube videos of beryl animations that we've already seen. Just because it's awesome doesn't mean we need 100,000 videos of it all showing your choice in ***** anime wallpaper.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6...and just how exciting is AUDIO of your desktop exactly?
- Shananra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6To make video tutorials related to software applications, to show off their uber cool 3D desktop, to send an intuitive bug report of something that your software is doing to developers, etc.
This isn't relevant to everyone, but it is to a lot of people. - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The beryl wikis work well.
- pastasauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Not to mention the terrible music choices some... er.. most of those videos have... /cringe
- jtorque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just don't add music like the article suggests. If looking at someone else's desktop weren't dull enough, listening to some repetitive synth beat just pushes it over the edge.
- jessekeys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use recordmydesktop (http://recordmydesktop.sourceforge.net/) to create desktop presentations. I just flew over the article but it seems a lot faster and less complicated (if you're a bit familiar with working with bash cause there's no gui :))
Small tutorial to get you started: http://blog.teranetworks.de/51/record-my-desktop/ (english) - Renolc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's a gtk addon to give you a nice gui to work with here:
http://recordmydesktop.sourceforge.net/ - schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I always wondered about that name. Anonimity has its merits.

you could try: wink

there are versions for windows and linux... - foofightrs777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just use istanbul to capture movies of my desktop. Works quite well for me.
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2why do u have to do the audio and video separately? anyone know of a software that lets u do both of em at the same time?
- jessekeys, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5you can't seriously compare this to captivate which costs about 600$
- squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1camstudio on windows is good and free..thats my recommendation
mac is harder. iShowU and Snapz Pro are available but they cost $20 and $60 respectively. I've been looking for a free mac version for sometime but have not found one. - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2mine would be boring, other than the familier applications that everyone knows already the desktop would be a plain black background...
- breezy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What do people suggest to use to do this on Windows or a Mac?
- drmobutu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just know that I could destroy Windows forever, if enought people would just watch a video of me using my Red Hat installation to dupe CDs, set to the soundtrack of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries".
- bcc0232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, it's not just for developers. I use it to market various products.
Here is one example I did just last week:
http://ktt.blip.tv/file/142760/
An alternative to that would be a 20-page text explaining the features and benefits for the user -- something nobody would read. - shadowman99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2dugg
- Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Next stop: MTV! Woohoo!
- harleymydarlin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This rocks
- thinsoldier, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Linux definitely needs more videos!
From my point of view, the majority of non-corporate windows users don't know jack about windows. When they call me for help the only thing I waste my breath explaining to them over the phone is how to install vnc. The rest of the support comes in a manner they can 'see' after vnc is working. These people are not gonna google for how to burn a cd in windows just like they're not gonna read the manual for how to configure xorg.conf. If linux has more how-to videos on youtube than there are for Vista and OSX it will be a huge advantage for you linux people. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2uhh.. other than developers, why would anyone have any sort of use for this
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Mine is just standard Gnome Clearlooks with the classic GnomeSimplicity wallpaper.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yay, more linux porn!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yes, let's all describe our desktops
- ontain, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5yeah the cube that makes changing desktops 2 seconds slower than if I just hotkeyed it.
- jaylaprade, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3You know I love Linux and all, but the way that I make video of applications is with Macromedia/Adobe Captivate (obviously not the Cubey look how cool my 3 desktop is type videos). It's fast and editable. It's much easier to produce demonstration type video with Captivate.
Yes, obviously I have to use two computers to do videos of Linux desktops. But the way I do it is by exporting my display from the Linux computer to the Windows machine with Captivate and Cygwin.
So my advice, if you have to make videos of your desktop and it needs to be easy, use Captivate. - GeneralBison, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1That is quite possibly, the single gayest website I have ever seen...
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I would rather see the cube rotate than someone jiggle a window around like it is still revolutionary.
