Due to a formatting mistake on my part, the link I posted isn't actually a link, so it won't get digg listed on the sidebar. Since Digg doesn't need links from some random blogspot blog, that's no bad thing anyway, but the point remains that this site doesn't mind people linking to them.

Now if you've got a problem with the morality of people linking to sites which give books away for free, that's a seperate issue. Personally, I believe that intellectual property right laws as they currently stand are deeply immoral. The laws were designed to allow content creators to assert their authorship over their works, not to allow certain companies to make gross sums of money from people with no other option. Yes, I know this is a simplistic representation of the debate, but believe me I could go on at length on it if anyone were interested. If you're interested, there are many people much more intelligent and articulate than me who explore the debate in greater detail. Google is your friend.

As it happens, the site I mentioned claims that they are not breaking any laws. Now I'm not a lawyer, and I don't know what jurisdiction they are in, but personally I'm a bit doubtful of their claims. But, whatever, the fact is most of us break the law dozens of times every day. Whether its crossing the road at the wrong place, enjoying a recreational drug other than alcohol, or engaging in sexual acts which the legislature considers 'bad', or any number of other things which at one point 51% of the population agreed with. Yes, these are complex issues, and yes, I'm over-simplifying, but if I wrote a ***** essay about it no-one would bother reading it. Check it out for yourselves.

linuxtopia1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1First, I'd like thank everyone for "digging" Linuxtopia. This is my site and it is the culmination of 2 years of work in my spare time. Over those two years I built up a large amount of traffic primarily from Google search. On Feb 1st Google changed their indexing algorithm and 90% of the Google traffic disappeared and I was a few weeks away from shutting the site down. Based on the digg response I will now leave the site up permanently and continue to add content.

rclay - thanks for the warning about bannerconnect.net. All bannerconnect ads have been removed from the site. A few residual ads will appear for the next 24 hours until they are removed from all the ad chains.

I've also reduced the number of ads in the side bar and will review this to see if others can be removed to address deanshultz's concerns.

For those complaining about the speed - my apologies. The internet connection and server have been swamped with traffic since the digg article. I am working to fix this problem. Also, as the digg traffic dies down the speed will resume.

cooldogebooks.blogspot.com (absolutely horrible design, but thousands and thousands of books categorised by category). Some are links to pdf's that you can just download, some are rapidshare links to archives of books.

Anyone know any others?
