- Andytom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Dugg for Spring this looks incredible.
- SuneNielsen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11They forgot Tribal Trouble - http://TribalTrouble.com
- leszek, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I really like this Linux gaming review.
Hopefully Ubuntu will have Spring and Freeorion packages soon:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/118457 - schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10Linux got game, and this series of 3 posts proves it. Good job.
- lippyjka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Not for long; two lobbys in the making AFLobby; (works fine; I'm using it on a day to day basis now - new build appearing nearly every second day) & spring lobby, which still has some way to go; but is making progress.
- deepmenace, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i hope freecol gets finished, i always prefered colonization to civilization. shorter, tighter, more direct gaming sessions.
- 1n4007, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Sadly it's still lacking a fully functional Linux lobby
- Garfunkel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I hope so! But i don't think so. Saying that, the popularity of it will certainly make it a high priority task to get it running under wine/cedaga/crossover office.
- Garfunkel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Spring has came a long way, i do own a legal copy of TA so i just got some of the files off the cd to play it but last time i played it about a year ago it was quite unstable for me (i was playing on xp, now using it on ubuntu/gentoo). It looks great! it's so damn similar to supreme commander wit all the 3d engine effects and stuff.
- fnxy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Im definatly going to look into some of these games, thanks :). Now if only Blizzard release there upcomming titles for Linux im sold :D/.
- futaris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2No one mentioned OpenTTD...
- sprash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Did someone manage to get that BOS compiled on an Intel Mac? Or is there any MacOS X Binary out there?
- HornyFox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Not everyone look for good graphics first.
- latova, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else notice the "get the facts" microsoft ads at the top of the page?
- blatantninja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'd love to see some RPG's. I'm finally going to build a Linux box, and I'd like to play games on it. As for the graphics issue, graphics are a distant second to story in terms of importance IMO.
- wonboodoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The only one debating it seems to be you. The article certainly doesn't and if you go back to part one the first sentence says that the Windows gaming experience is superior. It's like me saying "Windows gaming selection is nowhere near that on consoles" which is also true, but also irrelevant to the article, just like your comment.
- HornyFox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's not the point of the article.
- dootzky, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3dude!! :O this looks AWESOME!! :)
i like it. soon there will be much more free games for linux, and i just can't wait to play all those games online, for free, legal, with all my friends!! bloody awesome! - leszek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You can also play the original colonization on Ubuntu with dosbox !
- CircleFusion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dugg for Nexuiz (in part 1).
It mentions that Nexuiz is built on a fork of the Quake 1 engine. Don't let that fool you into thinking that the engine is sub-par. The Darkplaces engine has come a long way and is comparable to modern day game engines. - IamF, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Absolutely, and I'd be incredibly happy if Starcraft 2 is getting ported to Linux
- brakezone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Obviously these games are much more advanced than games that were used 10 years ago under Windows.
In terms of graphics, the latest versions of openGL will make use of the newest graphics hardware technologies. There are also many games that i know of that are not mentioned in the article.
The primary reason why there are more games for windows than linux is because the the people who lead the projects are usually not out to make cross platform engines; however, in the future, as the Linux market and understanding of its development system improves, the Linux gaming market will likely expand and make developers more interested in cross platform development. Microsoft has done everything in its power to prevent this from happening by designing proprietary frameworks. - daimoni, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0lol :) I'm the keeper of the blog, seriously though, there's only google's adsense ads, so gotta blame the google for it. i guess i'll have to tune those ad channels just a little bit more...
- Jack9, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Apparently making 3 articles on Digg is supposed to "prove" that it's comparable to windows as a gaming platform. If we're going to start including in-progress open source titles with no publishers, there's about 1000 more games in development for windows than for Linux in that market alone. I have a linux box, I use it for work. I have a windows box, I use it for play.
- Nightfall, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Until the major game manufacturers come out and start making games for Linux at the same time they are making them for Windows, there will be no comparison to Windows gaming. Imagine playing games like Supreme Commander on Ubuntu the same day it was released for Windows. Now thats "Linux got game". Don't get me wrong here, I love Ubuntu, but when it comes to PC gaming, Windows is still king.
- neddiedwarf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'm rather involved in the Spring community, and for those interested, you may see more about us on Digg in the future as the engine and the games which run on it are progressing at a rapid rate. Good to see we are getting at least some recognition.
- daimoni, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0lol :) I'm the keeper of the blog, seriously though, there's only google's adsense ads, so gotta blame the google for it. i guess i'll have to tune those ad channels just a little bit more...
- realbeandip, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1IMO, the last and only gasp of Linux gaming was back in the Loki days. When Loki ported Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri and Railroad Tycoon, I thought for a brief moment that Linux might stand a chance in the desktop market. Unfortunately Loki failed as a company and Linux gaming hasn't been the same since. And also IMO, the massive pirating of Loki's work by the Linux community didn't help things. I bought at least 4 of their titles and they were well worth it.
It's a sad fact, and even Mac users know this, but if you want to play GREAT computer games you will be playing them on a Windows box for foreseeable future. - trollick, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2So Linux games are about 10 years behind windows games. Sad...
- KielKilla, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0To bad Supreme Commander sucks. TA > Spring > Supreme Commander
- reed311, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1A rather poor list of games. It's not what Linux has, but what they don't have. I'm not sure why the Linux obssessors even try to point out that Linux has good games. Linux has a poor selection compared to Windows, this cannot even be reasonably or rationally debated.
- IamF, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0I'd vote for Cedega (or wine) and you can play most games on linux.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2The Graphics for Bos Wars looks really outdated.
- sirlancelot88, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3So Linux has these strategy games....
And Windows has Supreme Commander. It's pretty obvious which OS I'll be choosing for gaming, and that is the one whose game graphics don't look like they come from 2000.
