- abhinavg90, on 08/11/2008, -2/+7Linux... its everywhere!
Next thing, someone will try to install it on their penis... - strangewill, on 08/11/2008, -2/+6Upper class kids will just find a way to totally ***** it up.
Plus, how do upper class kids show off when they're running something that's free? - theOster, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4brb
- frontporsche, on 08/11/2008, -1/+5Linux makes me smile too.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+5INTERNET COMPUTAER SWITCH ON
- johndavidjack, on 08/11/2008, -1/+4I don't think Joe Sixpack gives a ***** what OS he's running. Most "Joe Sixpacks" I know don't even own computers, they put chickens to sleep by drawing in sawdust with the chicken's head.
- theOster, on 08/11/2008, -2/+4because we can't understand him. or are you joking? i can't understand you either.
- kragil, on 08/11/2008, -1/+3It works for me on the desktop really great, BUT:
For most people I think it will still take a few years ;( sigh .. only when the hole wireless, graphic and powermanagement stack is really stable and works out of the box and the 3D desktop is fully mature then it will work for everybody.
Then companies can package really sexy looking distros for Joe Sixpack that have lots and lots of advantages and very little downsides compared to Win or OSX.
Imagine a (K)Ubuntu that boots with kernelmodesetting smoothly from grub to X and Compiz/KWin/Metacity compositing works with WoW or Second Life ( insert your favorite game that is open source or runs with wine here ) flawlessly.
Add a Click And Run kind of "Appstore" that has an open source "3D garden designer" and 90 % of all people would be really happy with linux. - Atomic1fire, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2Use expensive hardware, and make the software look expensive (aka do the apple thing)
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -3/+5linux good. microsoft bad.
- Gogogo111, on 08/11/2008, -1/+3Honestly no one cares what OS they're using. As long as it works.
- MvTCracker, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1I would be excited if I wasn't sure I would be forced to download something either for the os or browser to make it work and probably be forced to type some commands or use some tar files
- mooboy322, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1your mom can
- Wargasmic, on 08/11/2008, -1/+1Just tell them it's expensive they don't know ***** and you'll be rich.
- Atomic1fire, on 08/12/2008, -1/+1Im sorry, but when your stack has a hole in it, you might have a problem
(next time, add a W) - inc595, on 08/11/2008, -0/+0but will it blend?.. err.. ya...
- wigren, on 08/11/2008, -2/+1@strangewill Water is free too.
edit: Sorry, I hate this new reply system. - santasing, on 08/11/2008, -5/+2Don't really know why people are digging you down.
- Atomic1fire, on 08/12/2008, -5/+2after closer review of that comment, I think I can make sensible what this person is trying to say.
It only made it into OLPC's, Ironically, (Intel) the same company that bribes and corrupts ( according to http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_ ... is now making a buck on Linux in what is called MIDs also known as Mobile Internet Devices. - schestowitz, on 08/15/2008, -5/+1Too many typos, I'll admit.
- wigren, on 08/11/2008, -6/+2My opinion: Somebody should market a Linux netbook to upper class elementary school kids. That would make it cool, furthering adoption. I know a lot of focus is toward low cost hardware targeted at emerging markets, but I think it leads to a perception that Linux is an alternative if can't afford the "real thing".
- chrispaul50, on 08/11/2008, -8/+2But will it stop the rain?
- schestowitz, on 08/11/2008, -13/+4It only it had made it into OLPCs. Ironically, the same company that bribes ad corrupts (Intel, seehttp://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_ ... ) is now making a buck using Linux on what it renamed "MIDs".
