Linux Needs Windows To Run
talkback.zdnet.com — While reading a debate on a ZDNet blog concerning Linux vs. Windows, this "interesting" character came along. I figured everyone could use a good chuckle and a reminder of some of the thinking we are up against. Enjoy.

- mikelieman, on 10/31/2007, -13/+456Yup. That's about the level of proficiency evident among the general population.
- stardeo, on 10/31/2007, -6/+348It's not just the level of proficiency at work here, it's also the "I Know Big Words" effect and the "I Quote Dollar Amounts--I Am Right" syndrome.
- mariusaz, on 10/12/2007, -13/+88Wow. Looks like some goon did a huge brain job on him. I sometimes wish I was that dumb and oblivious to reality.
- simoncoul, on 10/31/2007, -8/+469This is the same type of person that thinks Internet Explorer is the Internet!
- mikeyj10, on 10/12/2007, -11/+95This guy sounds like a stockbroker. Only a stockbroker can start a conversation by saying "This is why loosing $50,000.00 is good for you...."
- AMadeUpName, on 10/31/2007, -6/+207I seriously had to read this 5 times to make sure there was not any hint of sarcasm in it. Sadly I could not find any. I hate people who open their mouths without thinking or doing research on their claims.
- CrackHappy, on 10/12/2007, -14/+59This gets a simple HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA from me.
- ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -9/+73@simoncoul--
you mean google isnt my browser? Whatever shall i do without my google-browser? - Maasneotek, on 10/12/2007, -21/+104Don't get too angry, the guy isn't DUMB, hes just ignorant, theres a difference.
- mikeyj10, on 10/12/2007, -9/+170yeah dumb people know they're stupid so they keep their mouth's shut.
- juicyj, on 10/12/2007, -24/+94He reveals too much general computer knowledge in his post to be that ignorant. Obvious fake/trolling.
- drmangrum, on 10/12/2007, -10/+111@maasneotek
No, this guy is dumb. Ignorance is lack of knowledge. Dumb is failing to realize you are ignorant and continue to vomit forth idiocy like that guy did. - R34C7, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37Incredible... simply incredible.
You would think someone arguing on forums about operating systems would at least have a fundamental understanding of computers. - ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -54/+32This is the funniest thing I've ever read. The best part of it is his arrogance! This is what makes Bill O'Reilly so hilarious -- he also spews ignorance behind the veil of utter arrogance.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -7/+71Wow, I guess i'm totally screwed with Vista - I wont be able to run Leopard over it :(
- cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -15/+22The only dumb people are those of us who let this hoser take us in, if even for just enough time to post a reply. Really, its quite obvious this person knows about Linux, if you read between the lines of his/her statements they are so patently bogus it isn't really even funny.
- Eccles, on 10/12/2007, -6/+72There was a study done once, which found that dumb people often did not in fact realize they were dumb. You have to have a certain level of intelligence simply to realize that others around you are smarter, apparently. Presumably this person falls into that category. Point out evidence that contradicts his position, and he's not smart enough to realize you're giving him facts, not just the truth as *you* believe it, as opposed to the truth as he believes it.
We're dealing with a person who is the living embodiment of truthiness. Hopefully he'll head to Africa to help with that elephant problem. - HalFTW, on 10/12/2007, -22/+13Ballmer forgot to take his meds.

LOL - jmkiii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62Reminds me of when my grandpa calls and says, "Google disappeared, somebody deleted my Google."
At least he does not use AOL(He's 80-something) - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -29/+15If ignorance is bliss this guy must be more enlightened than Buddha.
- gaiden2k5, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22The general PC users = first come first served
People who start with Windows, will stick with it largely due to convenience
This is the true advantage of Windows... most people nowadays use PC/Windows for online chat, online games, ebay, amazon, email. and they almost always remain inside this realm for who knows how long. Your general users, those who thinks they know, but they don't, became so dependent towards Windows that things like Linux and, sometimes, even Apple OS is practically non-existence. Everything is measured according to Windows standards where anything Linux or OS cannot do while Windows makes Windows better while any exclusive features of Linux and OS that Windows lacks becomes weird and sometimes unacceptable simply because "it doesn't work like Windows". While OS makes effort to advertise their OS, Linux still remains as something on tech geeks are aware of. Sure I admit it's like better than Windows an almost every aspect, but I think it would still take a long while until the general PC users would recognize its value. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23You should see my system - I have leopard running on OS X which runs on windows-- then on the side I have linux running on unix and windows 95, 98, me + 2000 running on windows xp---
all of the partions are running on BEos! - gaiden2k5, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Microsoft Troll Department better up his salary, nice effort, made my day.
it's just amazing how this dude was brainwashed and thinks the entire cyber world revolves around Windows, like many here I had to read it at least twice to make sure I didn't read anything wrong LOL!!
I give him credit for knowing the existence of Windows drivers! but someone please update his so next time ***** wont fly out of his mouth when he talks about non-Windows things. - ivanmarsh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39That's GOT to be fake. No one can be that stupid.
What does he think computers ran before Windows? - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19The Matrix has him.
- togume, on 10/12/2007, -2/+90Guys, this is an obvious troll. He's pretty well spoken and eloquent to say the things he does. Look at his past comments:

No way... This HAS to be a joke, no person who uses a liveCD and knows what it is couldn't actually say this... This HAS TO BE A JOKE. I don't think is that kind of people... - UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14This is why I don't trust most "computer experts".
- startleman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18@ toqume
From the second post you've provided, I seems quite clear that he believes that windows is required to run Linux, that the drivers and underlying system are required and the only way people can use linux is by having a pirated copy of windows running underneath. He says (lol) that because vista is much harder to pirate, Linux is going to have a hard time. HAHAHA! - rholloway, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8"yeah dumb people know they're stupid so they keep their mouth's shut."
Ummm... - Silvermink, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7@togume: To paraphrase Penny Arcade...
"Maybe he's just a fan."
"Yeah, a fan of his paycheck. Which says Microsoft."
I'm not sure if this guy is stupid or if he's just doing his clumsy best to spread FUD. - w3bsmith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26I'd have to say that the funniest part about this article is the diggers comments on it. How can anyone not get the sarcasm in this guys very well worded comment?
This really is a thing of beauty - this perfectly crafted piece of art - how it highlights key features of Linux whilst pretending they don't exist - how it draws you to hate this Windows lover - how it draws you to want to try linux (especially this 'Ubuntu' that he's talking about) - how it emotes the exact response that he is getting from this.
He is a Satirical Master. The funny/sad part is, hardly anyone notices. - hersito, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I call BS on this, probably the same person that wrote the answers also wrote the Jerry commentary just to show "how stupid people that uses windows is", and it's so easy to prove this: EVERYONE that knows what a DRIVER, a SERVICE and a BOOTDISK is (as said in the comment) knows what Linux is. People that is as ignorant as JERRY is supposed to be really exist, but they don even know the words DRIVER, BOOTDISK an less that all SERVICE.
I don't buy this. - Tallon29, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9This is the absolute embodiment of someone "knowing just enough to be dangerous." His extremely elementary understanding of Windows and basic computing concepts leaves him feeling empowered. I'm sure he's solved a few simple issues for family and friends who now refer to him as a "guru," further supporting his superiority complex.
Makes for ***** hilarious reading, though. - radu79, on 10/12/2007, -16/+5He is not that far from the truth. Many drivers and codecs are either derived from their windows version, or just incorporated as is (ndiswrapper for example).
The ATI and Nvidia 3D drivers are there courtesy of Windows too (they were first designed for windows and then ported to Linux). - citsym, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3why does it appear to be a sarcastic comment to me..
- jeffeb3, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I'm guessing this guy is either:
a) a poor, misguided teenager who has friends that run widgets and told this teenager it was Linux, or
b) a very clever person with the incredibly creative concept of fooling everyone into thinking this was serious.
If a is true, then I should say, sorry, you're wrong, and please look up the facts.
- the Linux doesn't use windows at all
- Mac OSX uses Unix.
- ungh, I can't do this it's demeaning.
if b is true, then thank you, you have made my day. I really have to get back to working on my windows based Linux. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@juicyj
When he mentioned OS/2 I knew it was fake - JimV, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32OMG, this other comment of his is GOLD:
"Vista will finally put an end to this blatant abuse of intellectual property, and linux should decline, taking the pirates with it."
Doesn't he know? Pirates use Windows. Ninjas use Linux. - keyboardduder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"a freeware like the Linux"
/chuckle - stevecole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Argh! I'm digging up good arguments that this guy is really this dense, and I'm digging up good arguments that this guy is a master of sarcasm.
Honestly, I still can't conclusively decide which angle I believe, and that burns me up. If he's a troll, he has owned me in a way that is far beyond ordinary trolldom due to the perplexing conundrum he's foisted upon me. - nx01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There was actually a study done on how many people who are dumb, clearly over estimate their abilities. I guess sometimes ignorance is bliss.
http://www.apa.org/journals/features/psp7761121.pdf - natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Wow, that guy can't even spell.
- mtam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This guy knows what he is talking about! He knows about IBM struggles with OS/2, he knows that apple shifted toward Intel chipset and bootcamp trying to get more customers, he is making fun of Vista and its enormous cost...I wonder why everyone missed his point??!!
- abdim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I bet this is one of those people who still thinks that the earth is flat!
- grumpyrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2> No, this guy is dumb. Ignorance is lack of knowledge. Dumb is failing to realize you are ignorant and continue to vomit forth idiocy like that guy did.
No, ignorance is more than simply a lack of knowledge. Naivity is lack of knowledge. If someone doesn't realise that you can run Linux without Windows, that is OK, they are naive and should either learn about the facts or not pretend to be an expert. Ignorance has more of a 'should have known better' side to it. This guy is both ignorant and dumb, 'correcting' the points of the article and at the same time showing what a clue he doesn't have. - Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm not slamming the need for an alternative OS, and am not wishing death on Linux, BUT...
I'm tellin' ya, there's a huge change in the sea, awareness is rising, and Linux for the desktop is dead. - iwanttodiggthis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Thank you, Mike. Thank you. By bravely posting the sort of comment that furthers discussion, you've received more than 400 diggs on your comment. Thank you for standing up to those who would say otherwise.
"Yup. That's about the level of proficiency evident among the general population."
No matter where I go in this world, I will always keep your words close to me. You, Mike, have shown me the way: we on Digg are simply much smarter and much more proficient than the general population.
The next time anyone, and I mean ANYONE, tries to correct me, I will not argue with him. He is part of the general population, and as such his opinions are not sufficient.
The next time anyone argues with me on a forum that is not Digg, I will submit his comment. That way, you and 400 other men can confirm what I already know: that he is part of the general population, and as such he is not worthy of arguing with me.
Thank you, Mike. You and I are part of the community that will make the Internet a utopia of intelligent, rational men.
- sanguinemoon, on 10/31/2007, -6/+229He had to be trolling. Nobody can be this stupid and not be in an asylum for the mentally incompetent.
- CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+127Sounds like a coworker I knew. Was an expert on everything, looking at him with a straight face became harder and harder after hearing things like:
"LCD TVs are better than HD TVs..." (after mentioning his plans to buy a LCD TV on sale for $200)
"Microsoft is coming out with a bunch of new stuff for the 360, they're going to include linux..." (After mentioning the reason why I don't want a 360 is because I can't run linux on it...this is before the kernel exploits)
I could go on and on. Sadly, yes...people like this do exist. I'd believe it's real. Either that or an attempt to get to the digg front page. - skatastrophy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+88I dunno... his second post has me convinced that through running Ubuntu I am pirating Windows :(
http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-12355-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=31199&messageID=579074&start=44
Flat Earth Society? :o - thepaulm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+69I don't know... if he's a troll, he's really really good. Here's his first comment that started the thread:
It wont happen
I dont see how this will happen at all.
Vista is far more powerful than windows XP, and runs twice as fast. It is also much harder to pirate, and this point more than anything else has the Linux crowd in a panic.
It wont be long until Windows XP is no longer supported, and when that happens, what is Linux going to do ?
Linux will have to find a way to work under Vista from here on, since it wont be able to rely on XP being readily available anymore.
Linux may seem like a good alternative to Office, but all that is happening in linux is that the windows interface is cleverly hidden away. It still needs the drivers and software services in order to run, and in most cases - that happens WITHOUT a valid windows licence.
This is just plain piracy.
Vista will finally put an end to this blatant abuse of intellectual property, and linux should decline, taking the pirates with it.
Anyone that supports the continuation of Windows XP in place of Vista surely has a hidden agenda .. and you will surely be caught out. - Whoblah, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21Another comment of his I found interesting:
http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-12355-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=31199&messageID=579074&start=45
Yeah, he's trolling :) - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Even if this wasn't a troll, some intrepid devout troll is gonna pick this up and start reposting it on every Linux thread.
- TehDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32@skatastrophy
I can't believe this guy is that ***** stupid.... honestly...
"Linux may seem like a great alternative to office"?
Maybe he's joking, but if he's not, someone brain this asshole with a clue-by-four - Lnomis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's trolling. If you look closely at the language, some of it looks a lot like the stuff used by techies in industry.
"some of the more critical parts of windows", for example or "Apple tried to create their own system" (no non-techie would refer to an OS as a system).
He also says "a freeware like the Linux", which just reeks of "teh internets" style sarcasm. - ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -24/+5I just wish that the zealots would stop posting / publishing this kind of nonsense articles already. Fanboyism of any kind just stinks of insincerity. Doesn't matter if you are an OSx , Linux or Windows fan, just stick to the damned facts and post stuff that we'd all benefit from damnit.
- joebob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13After reading and re-reading all his comments on that article I'm still not sure. Is it extremely wry satire? Is he the first ordained minister of the MS fanboy faith? Is he 84 and as clueless as anyone could possibly be about the subject? And even more to the point, are there more like him? Shudder.
Wait, I know who it is... Steve Balmer! - ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Troll? I dunno.. funny? Definitely.
edit: I should look a little further down before I post things. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I would say he has picked up snippets here and there enough so that he can look like he knows what he is talking about when talking to those who dont know.
however he is a complete retard - Opiate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Perhaps he's living in a reality distortion field like most government supporters. In his head it probably makes sense. And it might if it was true ..
- polymorphist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If he's joking, then through in some smiley once in a while damn it.
- tooktheredpill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought it must be a troll, but I don't think it's possible to fake being that stupid.
- rassoodock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This reminds me of one of my favorite websites about 5 yrs ago..

oh and btw...IT'S A TROLL!
- CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+127Sounds like a coworker I knew. Was an expert on everything, looking at him with a straight face became harder and harder after hearing things like:
- baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36lmao, is he for real?
- rudy23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42yes he is afor real. a Troll.
- ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+72Definately a troll... Check out his other post:
"Vista is the Future
Its clearly evident that vista is the future.
One only has to watch TV for a short period of time and see the advertising.
WOW !!
I personally love the part where the young man is taking a stroll in the delightful snow covered streets, and sees firsthand a young deer with a gleefull glint in its eye. It sends a shiver down my spine. WOW is all I can say.
Vista is clearly the future of enterprise computing." - dpcamp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46"Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft."
hahahaha!
give that man the ten thousand dollars!!!!! - bmartin, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Why do people get married to operating systems? I run Linux now. I used to run XP. If OS X came to the PC, I'd probably give that a try (although may not, because I can provide my own tech support). I have a copy of Solaris that Sun sent me for free; it came on three DVDs. I might have a use for that in the future; it's a great OS for servers.
In my idealistic fantasy world, the much-revered OS X would be available to PC users so that people who wanted the best of both words (meaning a friendly UI and full tech support) would be able have their cake and eat it. How can you be sure that Windows or Linux or Mac OS X is the future? - cypherus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Not only is he a troll on that message board, but now we've started discussing it all here!
Don't you see?! If we reply to the troll's the terrorists win! - goodye, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@ArmandoM: http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/

Definitely a troll. A somewhat realistic one, but a troll nonetheless.
- bestadvocate, on 10/12/2007, -5/+117Wait windows isn't just Office? So installing Open Office on XP didn't remove windows? Oh those crafty Microsofties!
- hedgefighter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+34I'm just glad there are people like that out there to make sure we know this kind of important information... like Apple failing to make and OS and turning to Microsoft. I can't believe I had it all wrong.
- Lebowski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I'm stupefied... this guy can't be for real... I hope.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Comments like that hurt my head. Where do these people get the audacity to pretend like they know anything?
- aNoble, on 10/12/2007, -3/+81Maybe it's Steve Ballmer still trying to convince us that we all owe Microsoft money for using Linux.
- evilgold, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Sure sounds like its him. If not, whoever wrote that comment is at least a good friend of his.

- SwellGuy007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I looked at my Linux box and Windows is missing!!! What shall I do now? Someone has been in my tubes and stole my windows!
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Did you try opening the box, taking out the tubes, and screwing them into the side? Windows should pour back in over the next couple of hours but you'll have to use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall and reinstall Linux. Don't forget to put the lid back on the box or it might get creased.

- Slovenian6474, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20So if what this guy is saying is true....what the hell does he think linux does?
- Slovenian6474, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I mean come on guys! Everyone knows video games like linux only run on windows!
- ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I think he supposedly thinks its a graphical uplift to windows. But trying to understand a mind like that can be unhealthy, so lets not.
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5He thinks it's a ship that lets pirates sail the internet tubes with, clearly.
- frostieDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There used to be software that would run on top of Windows and replace the File Manager. For example, Microsoft Bob was a program that did this. ArkInterface Navigator was another one. He probably thinks that Linux and MacOS X do that, plus have some sort of replacement (?) for MS Office.
- SamsLembas, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28The odd part is that it is perfectly well written. He does not seem to be an overall idiot.
- aspec, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24No, he's one of those poor souls that started asking his IT department questions at work. Because he's in customer service/sales, he filled in the blanks when things got too complicated. We only hear what we want to.

"Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows"
Let's see. "Its" rather than "It's." "Fron" rather than "from." "A freeware" rather than "Freeware." In the rest of the message he has spurious spaces before question marks, a spurious hyphen in "reexamine," no apostrophe in "don't," "without a windows" rather than "without Windows." Question marks on sentences that aren't questions.
He may not even be a native English speaker, judging by the message. He certainly doesn't pay attention to his spell checker, if he even has one.
I vote for "it's perfectly poorly-written."
Furthermore, he's a troll. The comment about Linux springing up overnight is the key. Even people who don't know what an operating system is have seen those Linux magazines on the racks for ten years. - ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10so......we're feeding him why?

not true at all. my cousin showed his dad ubuntu and he was amazed, didn't know what linux was. he's also the kind of person who doesn't know how to get to the next screen in an install app in windows by clicking the "next" button though. either way, this guy might not necessarily be a troll. of course, we'd all like to think he is. it almost hurts to think someone can proclaim things so bluntly and be so far off base. - blinkfink182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6All of those are perfectly cromulent statements.
BTW, I don't think we should be embiggening this troll...
;) - UCFMark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's not perfectly written, but it's certainly more eloquent than one might expect of someone espousing such a ridiculous viewpoint.

Rather than supporting free software that updates vulnerabilities very quickly, and usually automatically, let's pay for for software that seems to have botnet support built in and encourages users to yes-click through everything, facilitating the spread of viruses.

hes a troll....dont feed. - DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -30/+2I'd rather pay a price for having access to something that makes it very easy to solve problems and organize information rather then having something free that I'm stuck spending most of my time figuring out how to use. There's a reason why Microsoft is the most successful software company on the planet. Using your logic, convenience stores wouldn't exist.
- bIuebonics, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3that is, of course, until ubuntu eats your hard drive... :o ... happened to me, in all i had to reinstall 3 times before it properly partitioned the drive it was on. it was only then that i realized dual booting with xp/ubuntu isn't worth it if you need to constantly be adding and removing drives from your system for repair/maintenance (grub has issues). needless to say, i'm swapping drives out when i feel like using ubuntu until i get another machine built.
- ryansmith18, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Desk, have you even bothered to use linux? Seems a lot easier than Windows to me. And it's no doubt easier to solve than quirky Windows problems. Windows is only "easier" for you to use because that's what you've been using all along. You've adapted to the way it's designed, which is perfectly fine. Bashing a superior system because you don't know how to use it....that's just plain ignorant.
- naio21, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3"What moron likes free stuff?"
I think the right question is: "What moron PRODUCES free stuff?"

In all honesty, I tried a very early version of Linux when it first came out and had a pretty bad experience with it (mainly because I wasn't too tech-saavy back then and the OS was FUBAR), but it, like most other things, has improved mightily over the years. I've been too lazy to give it another try since then. I admit that I'm hooked on Windows....... but I'd really like to break away to something cleaner. I'll give Linux another shot this spring. - bIuebonics, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@ryan "Bashing a superior system because you don't know how to use it....that's just plain ignorant."
implying that a system is inferior because you have issues working out "quirks" with it... that's just plain ignorant. i'm not here to say linux sucks, but just take a look at my comment above: the fanboys are absurd. i told a true story and got dugg down for it. with the setup i have, i can't have an xp/ubuntu dual boot setup. i mean, i CAN, but then i'd have to be editing /boot/grub/menu.lst every time i want to add a new hd for trouble shooting (which is easy, but a pain in the ass considering how often i have to toss in another hd)... instead, i currently just physically swap my linux drive in place of my windows drive. the faboys would like to believe there's nothing wrong with any of this, when it, in fact, has a long way to go before it can be considered a valid windows alternative. i'm also not here to say windows is great. there's plenty i find horribly wrong with microsoft's ideologies. however, they do make a more functional operating system, given that you know how to use it. the linux kernel is good, hell... it's great, but a lot of distros have a loooong way to go before they can actually compete. - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** the RIAA while you're at it, too.

"implying that a system is inferior because you have issues working out "quirks" with it... that's just plain ignorant."
You're missing my point. Having used both systems, my preference is linux. I'm entitled to make my own reasonable logical opinion, and conclude which one is inferior and which is superior. That's actually the opposite of ignorant. Nice try at being witty though. - bIuebonics, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@ryan
"You're missing my point. Having used both systems, my preference is linux." by the same regards, there are people who have tried ford cars vs. toyota cars and conclude that fords are superior. in your original post, you stated: "And it's no doubt easier to solve than quirky Windows problems." is it really? using a console/terminal and coding various assembly patches for a fix is about the same, if you ask me. what amuses me the most is that you follow that quote with: "Windows is only "easier" for you to use because that's what you've been using all along." i won't even get into the logical conclusions one can draw from these two statements. then you end with "Bashing a superior system because you don't know how to use it....that's just plain ignorant." so what can one conclude? frankly that you don't know how to use windows. it's really nice that you've tried both, a lot of people have. for all non-server purposes though, windows is in many ways superior, in some ways it's not. again, i'll end, the linux kernel is great... it's even greater that we can see how it's built. however, desktop distros built around it are in no way up to par with windows. they're nice, hell... the beryl interface is the greatest single interface for anything i've ever seen... when it comes down to ease of use windows is, for the most part, on top.
