- KungFuJ35u5, on 08/25/2009, -0/+1I think pfsense may have a live version too, actually.
- blixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1m0n0wall will do the same thing. And m0n0wall doesn't have a hidden agenda to sell you anything. I hate projects that distribute an inferior free version, and try to sell an upgrade. Get m0n0wall instead. www dot m0n0wall dot ch slash wall
- blixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If by "LiveCD" you mean does m0n0wall call it a "LiveCD", then no - they don't have a "LiveCD". The bootable m0n0wall CD doesn't require an installation though, so what's the difference? You put the m0n0wall CD in the CD-ROM drive and turn on (or reboot) the computer. It runs entirely off the CD.
- rmorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haven't actually tried this one, but just from feature lists and ease of use, ZoneCD looks better. It was dugg recently at http://digg.com/linux_unix/An_easy_way_to_setup_a_public_(or_private)_WI-FI_hot_spot
http://www.publicip.net is the main link for ZoneCD - lucas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, it's simply: m0n0 dot ch.
- giopagan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does m0n0 have a LiveCD version?
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is interesting, but wouldnt knoppix or another livecd be able to do this with nat?
- yakk0dotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0m0n0wall is great. I've been running it for about a year now. It even has captive portal support which lets me have my wireless open with some TOS people have to click they accept in order to use my connection.
- antiwmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm i thoguht everyone knew this,
I 'used' them for my router box when I didnt have my HDD,
but, I found my self much confrtable having gentoo linux on 3.3GB HDD. - ZarZax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't they seem like they are taking advantage of the actual open-source programmers. its $199 for the samba and bit-torrent package. BTW m0n0wall is great!
- digitaldd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Monowall or IPCop it is then..
- rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fair enough, but what is this "LiveCD" you speak of??
- randallb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yost: Yes, I think you might be missing the point. A live Linux CD allows for using an older computer (possibly one without a hard drive) to act as a router. Got an old computer sitting in your attic? Turn it into a powerful router.
I would suggest finding one that doesn't make you pay for full functionality (like the web interface). - bigfatdonny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They make you pay for the web interface?
Gay. - yost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0why do you need this, does everyone travel around with two laptops, one they can set up as a router, and another one to connect to the router, so you can share with the people around you?
whats the point, am I missing something.
