- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3nice.
- dwwatk01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Pretty clever. I'm guessing the reason for the spikes in volume are new releases, headlines...what else?
- mdxp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well they are explaining some of the spikes (the ones marked with A, B, C, etc) on the right of the page, but besides that...
- mdxp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am curious if everyone sees the same geo locations. For example in the search for debian, redhat, fedora, centos, myself I see as top city "Budapest Hungary" and top country "Czech Republic". I could bet that Google sees that I am located in Europe and lists those locations based on my own location. As it is hard to believe that USA is nowhere in the top.
- eklitzke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Everyone sees the same geo locations -- at least I see the same data as you, and I am on the west coast of the United States. According to the FAQ, the Cities/Regions/Locations are for the areas that have the highest percentage of searches for that term compared to the total number of searches from that area. So in this case it looks like a higher percentage of people in Budapest search for Debian than any other city. This isn't that surprising, since Linux has a much higher marketshare in Europe than it does in the US.
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I do wonder about the reliability of that - I live in a cathedral city (they're called cities if they have cathedrals in the UK, even if they're not really big enough) called St Albans with a population of around 130,000, and according to google trends, most people who search for 'bbc' live here - http://www.google.com/trends?q=bbc. Do others get that result? Seems somewhat unlikely/inaccurate to me, even if including the city and district is included.
- Ace2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well your ip address does not give away your location, as far as i know the IP gives away your ISP and the location is somehow linked with that.
Does anyone know how IP is related to a location within a country? - mdxp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well your IP can reveal your location. Most ISP enter that information in the whois records, and there are tools like geoip that can reveal that information. For example check this out:

- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well... if you look at stock prices over time, they often look similar to those graphs- some are caused by events, but some are pretty random (or atleast caused in ways we can't work out).

http://www.google.com/trends?q=internet+explorer%2C+firefox&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all
I'd like to think that Firefox is roughly used by twice the people use Internet Explorer, but sadly... - zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.google.com/trends?q=digg%2Cslashdot
digg vs slashdot - StepJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are people seriously just picking interesting words, google trending them, and writing articles on the results? This article isn't deserving of any credit.
- mdxp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are you saying that? All I wanted is to show the power of this tool. Nothing else... Have you read what I wrote? It is my personal opinion on a great tool and how it can be used...
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1love vs. war http://www.google.com/trends?q=love%2C+war
It shows that love wins in the hearts of people, but the news is obsessed with war.
