- Otnehs, on 11/20/2008, -2/+21Linux Torvalds? Wait, how did you mess that up? Didn't you just copy + paste?
- anshuman, on 11/19/2008, -0/+9Transmeta fizzed out too early. it would had quite some say in this days of netbooks.
- otheus, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7If it were actually the case that each processor cost $50 to make, then Intel would have profit margins of 1000%. Instead, their profit margin is roughly 20%. Seems you are confusing manufacturing costs with total costs.
- PeterNorton, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7Seriously, I though the idea they had was good and there are people who said that Intel would have never come up with power-saving chips if it wasn't for Transmeta. I think they did not get enough credit for what they did. At least it looks like teh guys who stayed cashed out in the end. Sad.
- jacekpoplawski, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5You don't understand the word "cost".
- DigitAl56K, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5There's an ember of life in the Amiga world because it was a wonderful platform ahead of its time in many different respects. It's a shame that its users had to face up to so many (frankly ridiculous) disappointments towards the end.
I'd still call myself an Amiga enthusiast to this day due to such fond memories. I don't consider a desire to see more good things come in the name of the Amiga in future "pathetic", just as I don't look upon everyone still emulating their SNES pathetic either. - GregofJersey, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5Damn, less competition now... =(
- iofthestorm, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Probably, although if you've ever tried some of their products, they were really horrible. The Transmeta Crusoe in the OQO Model 01(+) was hot and slow, not a good combination for a UMPC. I'm fairly certain you could cook things on the back of the OQO Model 01. I think Intel might have used some of their ideas though, but from what I can gather the OQO Model 02 with Via CPU is a lot better in terms of heat and performance.

- ryanonfire, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3http://novafora.com/index.html Is it normal for a company to have such a ***** website?
- chuckDontSurf, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I think it was designed by Maddox.
- peted27, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4what does this mean for GNU/Linus
- smotpoker, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2It wasn't literally his company. That was just his day job for the last 5-7 years
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Fuztulation.
- zbeast, on 11/20/2008, -2/+3That company was all sizzle and no meat... I say good riddance.
- bitweever, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Transmeta has nothing to do with the development of GNU or Linux. Linus just worked there.
- DonJuanAussi, on 11/20/2008, -2/+3I'm happy they are gone. They originally had a verbal arrangement to produce a 68000 compatible CPU with the owners of the Amiga. But because the Amiga CEO mentioned their name, and nothing else, Transmeta had a hissy fit and broke all ties. Was Steve Jobs on the Board of Directors? He throws tanties over CPUs.
The funny thing is that there is still a pathetic little ember of life in the Amiga world... NATAMI have a new chipset close to complete... but Transmeta is gone for good. - anonydigg, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Comment off the web:
"In the last year Intel and Nvidia have shelled out 275 million for Transmeta’s IP but today Transmeta sells 255.2 million dollars in cash for 255.6 million dollars! Does Transmeta’s BOD really believe their IP is only worth 400 thousand dollars!?! The SEC needs to investigate the shenanigans going on behind the scenes at TMTA.

- DonJuanAussi, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1It is pathetic. Actually, the most pathetic part of it is the diehard fanatics.
I will be in line for a Natami board, or machine when they are ready. I do not however, have any grand ideas that the platform will be anything more than a niche machine for video professionals, and retro gamers. Even the Video Producers are not 100% sure about it because the NATAMI design does not include a firewire port, or the once essential "video slot". Without these two considerations, there will be little to no professional interest, so it will become an advanced retro games machine.
You may not believe that 5000 units shipped is pathetic for a whole computer platform, but the world has other views... Just in the live presentation field, IF the NATAMI has the hardware for video pros, there should be interest in thousands of churches, and thousands of conference centers. The same equipment would be interesting to hundreds of small TV stations as well. We can HOPE that there are tens of thousands of NATAMI boards sold, but look at the tens of millions of machines sold on the other platforms. The difference in numbers, WHEN the NATAMI is shipped, will make the next Amiga look bacterial in size. - CDNChaoZ, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0Now here's a brand we haven't heard from in a while. Back in 2000, the Crusoe was supposed to be the ***** for the next-gen PDA.

- AppleMacStud, on 11/21/2008, -3/+1Thank God Apple is led by Steve Jobs and not this Linus loser.
- MarkusX, on 11/20/2008, -6/+2Haha. you gave me the giggles.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -6/+0LINUX TORVALDS... HA HA HA ***** RETARD. HA ***** HA.
- Dylson, on 11/20/2008, -7/+1Linus has his sights aimed WAY too high. He wants to take over the desktop on the hardware AND software portions? I think he should find a new hobby. I'm sorry but the fact he thinks he can steal thunder from Intel, AMD, Apple, and Microsoft is ludicrous.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -9/+2From what I gather Transmeta, once a sparkling startup that set out to beat Intel and AMD in mobile computing, announced that it will be acquired by Novafora. The company ’s most famous employee, Linux inventor Linux Torvalds, kept the buzz and rumor mill about the company throughout its stealth phase alive and guaranteed a flashy technology announcement in early 2000.
