- FRuGFoREST, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9Ok, someone have a good comparison between OpenOffice and KOffice ?
- motang, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6That would be a good one, OpenOffice 3 beta vs. KOffice 2 alpha. Curious to see which would come on top.
- pxa270, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5Here's a (completely serious) summary of the review: it's buggy, slow, unstable and incomplete. In short, it's very much alpha.
Unless you plan to help with the testing and development, you should just move along, and maybe check back a half year later. - SirPopper, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Comparison of office suites Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_office_ ... - KAMiKAZOW, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3IMHO it's not fair to compare until both products are final as both development processes are too different to compare pre-release version.
KOffice 2.0 is still in very early development. Large parts are rewritten compared to KOffice 1.x. OpenOffice 3.0 is a more evolutionary release and thus everything should be more stable and feel more complete. - kleverness, on 07/07/2008, -2/+4The review is very poor, but 'm digging this just because I would like people to pay attention to KOffice. Sadly, I think that OpenOffice is far away from being a quality product. On the contrary, KOffice2 has the potential of taking at least a portion of the office market. It just needs more developers and sponsors. Hopefully, this will be just a matter of time.
- LastDitchHero, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1KOffice is all show and no go. By that I mean it looks very nice and has a lot of graphical polish but really unusable at this point.
- TehDoctor, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4Pfff... you kids and you're WYSIWYG editors, you're fools. Be real men and use LaTeX.
- MadOgre, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2I would be interested in that.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Kudos to you
- KAMiKAZOW, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I use both -- depending on the text length. Does this mean I'm neither a kid, nor a man? Am I a teenager?
- bdpf, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I just looked at the alpha and the 1.6 release. Still not ready for prime time. I was hoping for a chance to use Koffice to compare it with Open Office, which I can use with windows (uck!) or Ubuntu. I'll need to come back in a year or so. (Drat) Looking further, I spoke in error, Koffice does work on Windows, Thou when I looked on the Koffice web page I found nothing for a windows install except for the alpha release, which is still in development. They need to make it easier to find the links to all flavors of Koffice.
- mossblaser, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1KOffice while good in many areas (infact, no, seriously good) it is majorly lacking in some key areas that are important for wider use. Still I really hope that they manage to get it sorted for the next release.
(example: when a spreadsheet offers an ID card as the only other built in template, you know its not that great...) - TehDoctor, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1It depends... it's a spectrum, so if you use WYSIWYG a lot, you're a teen, but if you use LaTeX a lot you're old enough to legitimately buy beer in the US.
By the way, I noticed I had been dugg down and just wanted to say my comment is in jest... I've used KOffice and I like it more than any other office suite out there, I just prefer LaTeX for what I do. - jepizacar, on 08/06/2008, -2/+1nice resource....
