- linshots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6was released nearly two weeks ago... OSDir did screen shots on March 16th: http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=595&slide=4&title=knoppix+5.0+screenshots
- Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why isn't this on the offical Knoppix site? - Knoppix.org
- emag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks, but I'll wait for the official mirrors and official torrent tracker, all listed at http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html to have something that claims to be KNOPPIX 5, rather than some random person uploading a torrent that claims to be it. Call me paranoid...
- knithx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thank you for the Diggs and Comments!!! It was my first new. I really appreciate you.
Some awnsers:
- Yes, it will write in NTFS partitions.
- No, Accelerated KNOPPIX is just a port of the original one.
- There is no CD .torrent or mirror yet. - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its real, its simply the unofficial unstable release
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, if it wasn't for the fact I wasn't using a ***** computer, I would have never know about this. Thanks for the news, and yes, Knoppix has saved my ass numerous times!
- spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fatalflaw: if you want to install linux, just get a full-fledged desktop linux, like ubuntu/kubuntu or fedora core or debian, knoppix is meant to be run as a live-cd. you can only have one OS per partition, so get a program like partition magic, to create a new partition. if you tried to install linux on the windows partition, you WILL LOSE EVERYTHING. so create a new logical partition, and install form there. there are a bazillion windows/dual boot guides out there. here's one just in case (its ubuntu-specific)
http://www.hezardastan.org/breezy_xp_dualboot/en/ - arostad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2props for getting on the front page but this is truly old news.. I have been using this for at least a couple weeks now. Mabey this one is in full english :-)
- JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Alright, now let's see the accelerated version of 5.0. That Accelerated Knoppix that was on the front page a couple of weeks ago was pretty nice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Portuguese / Brazilian : http://www.htk.com.br/noticia.php?noticia=346
---------------------------------------------------
http://www.htk.com.br/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks like the same old knoppix to me, now if it only had Xgl with Compiz we would be talkin
- fatalflaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lmao oh snap, forgot about Knoppix being livecd :P
Sry was thinking of ones like Suse and stuff lol blonde moment
Anyways I'll look into partition magic, I've known about it for several years its just I've always been hesitent in using it because I'm really paranoid about using any 3rd party program to mess with them, especially since Im on a Raid array.
hmm.. need to see if Asus makes a linux version of their raid drivers or if maybe sourceforge has any.
Anyone know if Knoppix in this version supports broadcomm 13xx? Someone recently built some but it'd be nice if it was built into distro. Ahwell, no biggy.
Thanks for the correction about the live cd. For the record though as I'm sure you know, if you really really want to, Knoppix, well , atleast Knoppix STD has an installer where you can install it to the drive to make it permanent. Did it to my laptop that I use for wardriving since the cd drive is well meh.. slow :)
I do have to say Knoppix STD and Auditor Security Suite are my 2 fav distros
ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY NMAP! :P - slythfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there a Knoppix 5 live cd torrent?
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This came out a couple weeks ago...It wasn't English, but it's not hard to switch the language when booting.
- fatalflaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a changelog link for me? I'd like to know if they incorporated the new broadcomm drivers for linux. Just a bonus, not necessary, Anywho, changelog anyone? Thanks in advance!
Btw can Knoppix's installer not screw with windows if installed on the same partition as WinXP NTFS format?
Have about 300 gigs of info I really dun wanna lose and when I installed I only made one partition, didnt think I'd be installing linux on my main machine but now I want too :P - slorocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is a ftp edu server that has the 5.0 up. Soon as I finish downloading this I'll drop this in bit torrent and seed it.
ftp://wuarchive.wustl.edu/mirrors/linux/distributions/knoppix - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's been around for a while, but it's great to see Knoppix getting some digg time. I've been using Knoppix 5, it's beautiful that it includes transparent NTFS support, finally I can use it as a fully operational secondary OS on my computers. I'm thinking of installing it as a main on my secondary laptop.
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NTFS writing is still really flakey.
GG on 5!!!
~~~~ - jambarama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is what the pundits have claimed. That the official version of knoppix 5 will mount NTFS partitions using FUSE (file system in user space), which will make them read/write. As I understand it, it won't be pretty but it'll work.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When you say "Transparent NTFS support"...does that include writing?
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and no, Accelerated KNOPPIX and Knoppix 5 have nothing to do with each other.
- websyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes I orderd it because I dont have a DVD burner on my laptop but, I like it Knoppix 5 works great but, I do need drivers for some specific hardware
- Personatech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is very true, however it was only available on DVD and its torrent (or ISO download) had not yet been made available. Unfortunately, according to other comments the CD version is apparently still not available so I'll hold off grabbing it until then.
- piratebill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2claimed to be the "LiveCD/DVD" torrent, but all i see if the torrent for the DVD. Misleading = no digg
- CptnObvious, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2There aren't many seeders right now, everyone digg this so more can come. Im getting download speeds on less than 10KBps on a Cable connection
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1its a tad old...
still digg this, ill wait til thers like a TON of seeds so then it will go fast - LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1man took this digg a while to hit the front page.
- ideefix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2damn 3,8Go, my DSL on a USB stick only >>> 50Mo's
- Cbeck527, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2this is the best linux distro yet
- Sunjin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3w00t!! knoppix rocks my box!!!!1111!!
