- snerge, on 06/12/2009, -1/+28Love 4.2, looking forward to 4.3
- oobuntu, on 06/12/2009, -0/+24FTA: Please note that KDE 4.3 Beta 2 is not suitable for end users. Its sole purpose is gathering feedback and testing. Following that, we recommend those that are merely out for an upgrade but cannot live with severe instabilities to wait until KDE 4.3.0 is released in late July.
- MethodOne, on 06/12/2009, -0/+15KDE 4 is used in Mandriva and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (in before AstralKnight makes a comment on the Novell-Microsoft deal), both commercial distributions.
- dualscreenman, on 06/12/2009, -0/+13KDE has no obligation to fix third-party software such as kvpnc.
- n344853835, on 06/12/2009, -0/+12Yeah, that is why it is still in beta... I hope that anyone who uses KDE knows that beta means it is still in testing.
- KAMiKAZOW, on 06/12/2009, -0/+10Yes
- Frostek, on 06/12/2009, -1/+10KDE does look very nice these days, but more stability would be good. I still find KDE (4, at least) problematical on my machines.
I want to give it a go for an extended time, but it still seems to have odd issues in too many places.
Will wait for the July release and have another go, I guess. - Dongvid, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7There's no comparison between KDE4.0 and 4.2. 4.2 provides a very stable, mature environment that is more customizable than anything I've ever used. I've been completely spoiled by the widgets and overall increased productivity of it.
The real problem with 4.0 was threefold; unoptimized code in KDE, Qt4.4 isnt as fast as 4.5, and nvidia had some serious bugs that KDE was unable to fix. All of those are fixed now, and features from 3.5.10 have returned. I cant think of anything that was better in the 3 series. - DreadKnight, on 06/12/2009, -2/+8KDE4 is the next best thing!
- KAMiKAZOW, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Nothing is bad about them. That's why the Classic launcher was improved and not dropped.
- adriaaan, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4Any news yet on when we'll see the OS X and Windows ports being released (in beta anyway)?
- zer0mass, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4http://windows.kde.org/
Definitely beta
"KDE on Windows is not in the final state, so applications can be unsuitable for day to day use yet."
But I see release news back to KDE 4.1 on July 29th 2008. - antdude, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4So how is KDE 4.x compared to v3.5.10? I still love v3.x. I heard bad things for v4 early versions. Are they much better now?
- antdude, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3Thanks. I will have to check it out then. :)
- pinda666, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3I'm just curious what features of 3.x you are still missing that are crucial to making a usable desktop. Especially 4.2 implemented a whole lot of features that where still missing from 3.x. I'm interested in hearing what some of those must have feature regressions are.
Indeed 4.0 and 4.1 had a significantly reduced feature set, since not all features where ported from KDE 3 to 4. (not because they where delibirately removed or because KDE get's gnomified) But I think the changelogs show the developers are taking feature regressions seriously. - badot, on 10/09/2009, -0/+1That's true, can increasing stability and adding polish to the codebase

http://kangbadot.com - mrklaus, on 06/14/2009, -0/+0Are you sure it is used in SLED?
- donnytomas, on 06/16/2009, -1/+1So that makes it good? Come on, you know better than that. Personally, I would not choose either of those distributions.
- Koppie, on 06/15/2009, -2/+1. . . and still no desktop menu bar?
<sigh> - merlinklein, on 06/12/2009, -5/+2"Recent applications, titles and context menues for the classic application launcher"
Thank God!
I hate the "Vista" style launcher, and yes I have tried Lancelot.
Just what is so bad about flyout menus??? - RaulMuadDib, on 06/12/2009, -8/+3Fix kvpnc
- Jambi, on 06/13/2009, -7/+1No, not really. The latest releases are a lot less buggy (except for Plasma, which tends to eat memory and crash if one widget bugs out) but it's just as unusable as the earlier versions. The 4.x releases took out a lot of useful 3.x features, and they don't appear to be coming back.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -14/+1Motang: New lame avatar, same crap/spam submissions.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -34/+1Why is it whenever something Linux gets submitted it always reaches the front page... with 0 comments?
Is it because Linux users aren't social? Because I'm now afraid of it :( - jaytek13, on 06/12/2009, -38/+5Another round of "it should be functional this time guys, really, we promise"!
- donnytomas, on 06/12/2009, -40/+3I prefer Windows 3.1 to KDE 4. If KDE 4 were a commercial product the entire staff would have been fired two releases ago.
