- dualscreenman, on 02/07/2008, -1/+33Plasmoids are now way better at noticing when my mouse is no longer over it. Separating the resize button from the rotate button was also a good idea. Some other really annoying bugs were also fixed. (It was especially annoying when I missed new IMs because the taskbar entry for the app didn't flash...
It's nice to see some Kwin lovin' in there too. Heck, it's good to see bug fixes all over the place, but the two areas I mentioned are where the fixes are most visible. :P
I like it! - penguinerd, on 02/07/2008, -2/+26It is a noticeable improvement. OpenSuse gets their packages out fast! Too bad I am supposed to be against them, they are doing great work with KDE 4.
- Optimaximal, on 02/07/2008, -1/+20But it's not an OS...
- mrsteveman1, on 02/07/2008, -1/+14It's sort of like how using the computer is better than repeatedly hitting yourself in the face with it.
Like that. - mrsteveman1, on 02/07/2008, -1/+14Dolphins can't stand you either
- RadonPL, on 02/07/2008, -0/+12The newest version of OpenSuSE, O'Suse 11 Alpha 2, will be coming out today with (latest) KDE4 by default.
- dualscreenman, on 02/07/2008, -5/+17Kubuntu has packages available too, by the way. (I'm not going to get in to any distro hatin', both are doing a good job)
- vardhaman2249, on 02/07/2008, -17/+28KDE > Gnome
- cypher35, on 02/07/2008, -0/+11the "real" kde4 will come with 4.1 in July.
- dualscreenman, on 02/07/2008, -0/+9Wtf does KDE 4.0.1 have to do with Ubuntu?
- ukblacknight, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8I think you're the Ignorant Inbreeder. This is a story about KDE 4.0.1, not Ubuntu.
- MinaSulo, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7I don't know about this either, would be nice if you could. If you can't, I think I'll write the code and see if it can get in the next release. Disabled, of course.
- Eldoo77, on 02/07/2008, -5/+12Yep... OpenSuse continues to do excellent work helping to promote a truly worthy Open Source project (namely KDE4) but instead they get smeared by ridiculous "conspiracy theories."
- schoate09, on 02/07/2008, -2/+8Bash>All
- Stonekeeper, on 02/07/2008, -2/+7So is this the *real* kde4 now or is it still KDE 4.not.really.four.point.oh?
- SteveMax, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5Fortunately, you can use Konqueror (or any file manager you may want) instead of Dolphin.
- QuadChaos, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5You are absolutly right... wrong choice of words on my part.. Desktop Manager.... :)
- johnnyzero, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4This Is Good News, But Does Every Word Need To Be Capitalized?
- HerbertScrunge, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4KDE4 refers to the entire series of KDE4.x.y, so this is not correct: KDE4.1 will merely be another step in the KDE4 series. Though hopefully a pretty big one :)
- secleinteer, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4Actually, it's desktop environment :P
- RadonPL, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Why not download the LiveCD and try for yourself? A flash demo won't do all the inner workings of KDE4 any justice.
http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/ - mrsteveman1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+34. metaphysically wrinkle-free
- dentarthurdent1, on 02/07/2008, -1/+4i wish the plasmoids on the desktop showed image/video previews instead of generic icons... is there a way to get them to do this?
- wolf08, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3With KDE4 trunk you can do that. I'm not sure if it's backported to 4.0.1 but I'm pretty sure that it's in 4.0.x, meaning 4.0.2?
- QuadChaos, on 02/07/2008, -6/+8There is definitely some very noticeable improvements. But I think I'll stick with KDE3 for a bit longer. KDE4 just doesn't seem solid enough as a main OS.
- secleinteer, on 02/07/2008, -2/+4@Optimaximal: You know what he meant.
- Waterrat, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Uh oh,prepare to be char broiled for that...
- angrykeyboarder, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2But can I move that bar from the bottom of the desktop to the top (and then shrink it)?
- TheWindBlows, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2all about preferences my friend.
- TehDoctor, on 02/07/2008, -1/+2Konqueror is trash in KDE 4 on Kubuntu. Where the ***** is my meta bar? That and tabs is what made it better. If Dolphin had tabs and file previews (mp3 playback on hover), people would stop complaining about it. The devs should stop being dicks and just put what the users want in there, not what they think they want, unless they want KDE to turn into Gnome
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1I finally got this thing. It's a great improvement but there are still many bugs that need fixing and many features that need to be added (such as stretching plasmoids along the X and Y axis). You can modify the plasma-appletsrc file located in ~/.kde4/share/config but that doesnt seem to work every time.
- beermad, on 02/07/2008, -3/+3I'm a bit worried about the big footprint in the top-right corner. Looks strangely like it's got something to do with a lesser desktop.
- Optimaximal, on 02/07/2008, -7/+7Thanks for sharing your startling insight with us.
Care to explain why? - Mogger, on 02/10/2008, -0/+0Try resize while holding Ctrl.
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/panel-devel/2008-Jan ... - CoolGoose, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1It just works. TM. 1. Firefox asks you which Flash to install. You can select between Flash9 and Gnuflash. Or you could Add/Remove and type Flash.
- Sairgem, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1A lesser desktop? KDE changed their logo to a footprint?
- arcticblue, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1The last time I tried, it would say it installed, but it didn't actually install because of an MD5 sum error caused by Adobe releasing a newer version. And the last I checked, the Ubuntu team wasn't going to do anything about it other than offer a workaround for those who went searching long enough to find it. That doesn't fall under the "it just works" category.
- dinostabOMG, on 02/07/2008, -6/+5Anyone have a demo on youtube?
- poivreblanc, on 02/07/2008, -4/+3I totally agree with you. I'm a great fan of gnome, I find easy a straight forward to use, but I have a lot of KDE application like Koffice, and AMAROK which I like above all
- MinaSulo, on 02/07/2008, -2/+1lol wut
- arcticblue, on 02/07/2008, -5/+3I'm sure many people never figured it out. It's not like the package in the repository actually works like one would think.
- Anpheus, on 02/07/2008, -6/+1Someone never figured out how to get Flash to work on their Ubuntu 7.10 Grumpy Gus
- EvilMoose, on 02/07/2008, -8/+2xfce!
I don't really see any features with KDE4 that makes me want to switch from xfce. Plus I can't stand dolphin. - Sklasko, on 02/07/2008, -8/+2Of course we had to have one of these spammers. Yet another reason why "The year of the Linux desktop" you always hear about, will never happen (nor should it). The community is just filled with people who constantly flame other open-source work and will never be able to decide upon a standard unless a corporate entity does it for them.

- schestowitz, on 02/07/2008, -18/+8>> Too bad I am supposed to be against them, they are doing great work with KDE 4.
OpenSUSE isn't really the problem at all. The concern is that by helping OpenSUSE you're lifting SLED/SLES from which Microsoft extracts revenue for... well, extortion.
Edit: oops, this was intended to be a reply to penguinerd. - inactive, on 02/07/2008, -20/+5When does Ubuntu Ignorant Inbreeder come out?
- ObeseEurotrash, on 02/07/2008, -17/+1Actually on the contrary it is a very nice upgrade but......
1. it must be sensitive to initial conditions, 2. it must be topologically mixing, and 3. its periodic orbits must be dense.
Sensitivity to initial conditions means that each point in such a system is arbitrarily closely approximated by other points with significantly different future trajectories. Thus, an arbitrarily small perturbation of the current trajectory may lead to significantly different future behaviour.
***** buried.
