- mtekk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26not really, the ISO disk image format that people refer to as ISO, is an ISO standard, hence the name.
- baalzebub, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26something needs to be done to prevent corporate giants like microsoft from hijacking the vote with cronies & cash infusions...
- 1iProd, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23Wrong ISO...
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20You are such a ***** gutless coward......you troll all day but never answer my simple question:
Since you're such a huge proponent of Office XML, how can you support a standard that doesn't even render as *VALID XML* ??
Office XML is so fundamentally flawed. An XML document must be: 1.) valid and 2.) well-formed for it to actually be machine-readable. Everyone knows this. It's basic entry-level XML 101 stuff. How can you support a standard that's built on top of OTHER mutilated standards?
Again, I'm sure you'll either ignore this question or chalk it up as "fanboy" ranting, thus avoiding the issue like always. But whatever. - dtraneighty8, on 10/07/2008, -14/+31ISO is already the standard for most pirates.
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23The ISO would be hard to tame. Just like nations that accepted Microsoft bribery (in one form or another, or contrariwise -- extortion), the ISO appears to be moved by the Microsoft $$$. See here:

Among more. - arjie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Ah yes, a brilliant plan, now let's put it before the ISO for a vote.
- ruiacp, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19It's time to fight back against people like you.
Microsoft is getting very scary exploring corrupt people to maintain their monopoly. - arjie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Whether or not you liked the outcome of the OOXML vote I can't see how you can object to ensuring the voting process is not gamed. Why have a vote at all if you want it to be manipulated by money? Really, 7of7, do you even know what exactly you are opposing?
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Is it time to standardize ISO?
Only if we can come up with the same amount of bribery money Microsoft is throwing around. - zyklon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Standardising ISO? Isn't that a pun?
- Keithamus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Yup, exactly. ISO disk images are the ISO 9660 specification, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_9660 . So you're exactly right.
Also, ISO is the name for Film Speed, referring to the ISO 5800 spec. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_5800
So that's just an example of two standards, named after the organisation. - grumpyrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I propose that in light of the recent push to standardise the process itself, it is time to standardise the process of standardising a process.
- Rubuntu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11ISO means nothing anymore, its credibilty is totally ruined. Besides the obvious MS corruption and stacking the votes, when ISO put a 10000 page format on Fast Track approval they headed downhill then. ECMA is in the same boat, bunch of cronnies colabarating together to get things past. They both a joke.
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Overdramatise much? What large organisations are they threatening to take down?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9That's something "Shelly The Republican" would say.
- spiffytech, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The article lays out several countries who's vote was decided by Microsoft's manipulative tactics. It's not about simply not liking the decision.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3ISO is what companies use to make sure they meet standards. If OOXML became an ISO standard then large corperations would be using the patent encoumbered bloated format for all word processing.
ISO itself doesn't have anything to do with Linux, its just much easier to do word processing under Linux in a true open specification like ODF rather then a 'open' specification like OOXML which is designed purely for Microsoft. Basicly with OOXML only Microsoft Office can really implement it (actually Office doesn't even implement it fully) - Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Most nonsensical title ever.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In light of the recent push of standardiseing the process of standardising process standardising
I purpose we standardise the word standardise - jorgepblank, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5How is this under Linux/Unix? Honestly, I'm not trying to bash, I'm just curious, is the ISO affiliated with the Linux initiative or something?
- maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Simple. To be included in a standard, all patents and copyrights must be waived to implementors. Otherwise, do your own proprietary thing.
That will end the gaming of the system. - Viper323, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Woo! Down at 65 diggs...
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I would like to standardise the trolls method of trolling as a troll standard
- WildBil, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Lets let the small minds make rules, on how to make rules, for the purpose of stifling innovations in process.
- nephilimx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0You will notice people put MS storys under Linux too, they are trying to throw storys into flame and bait people into hating without even reading the story
- crash0, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3wow, a brilliant idea. while you're at it, why don't you GPL the GPL and copyright copyrighting!
btw. i'd like to standardize these articles that talk about standardizing - fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5If people make a decision you don't like it doesn't mean anyone was bribed and it sure doesn't mean extortion.
People pick anwers you don't like every single day - like going to work instead of flooding the internet with your constant rhetoric, or sleeping with women. - bobcrotch, on 10/10/2007, -16/+9Blah Blah Blah I hate corporations blah blah blah sign my online petition.
We get it dude. - 7of7, on 10/10/2007, -27/+6The FOSS people are getting very scary. Now even when they get their way they're threatening to take down whole organizations. It's time someone fights back against these people.
