- chrisinsocalif, on 11/05/2007, -2/+56This should be a big hit when viewing porn.
- keyo, on 11/03/2007, -2/+48Where do I get blue/red glasses from?
- monkeestylee, on 11/03/2007, -1/+45compiz circa 1950, yay.
- SteveDeGroof, on 11/05/2007, -0/+37This is one of those rare occasions when I'm glad I bought a copy of "Spy Kids 3D".
- penguin5201, on 11/03/2007, -2/+36Cool and all, but you look like a complete idiot with 3D glasses on and staring at a blurry computer monitor.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/03/2007, -1/+32You don't. They got glasses now that block one eye and alternate eyes really fast each second... so the 3D effect is in full color.
Red and Blue glasses is so 1960. - MadEnvoy, on 11/07/2007, -0/+26Use red and blue paint and smear on eyeballs.
- FuzzplugJones, on 11/04/2007, -3/+28I can't believe that some ***** comment telling a smart person to dumb it down for all the internet morons gets more diggs than the original post.
- trogdoor, on 11/04/2007, -12/+34Havn't tried it yet but before people complain that the ghosting and color problems would be unbearable, it actually shouldn't be different from your current desktop *at all* 90+% of the time. This is an oversimplification, but the "depth" in an stereoscopic image is relative to the screen it is being shown on, so if you have a line which should be displayed "above" the screen ( closer to the viewer than the screen itself ) the image which the right eye sees would be left of the image that the right eye sees, so that for the images to overlap you have to cross your eyes ( just like looking at your nose makes you cross your eyes ), and it would be to the to the right if you wanted it "below" ( further from the viewer ) the screen. But for an image which is supposed to be at the the level of the screen ( which will be every window unless you are spinning the cube of performing some other 3D effect on them ) the image for the right eye should be in exactly the same place as the image for the left, so an anaglyph which has no depth is *exacltly* the same as a non anaglyphic version of the same image.
That said, the example image they show does in fact have depth ( as if he were using the 3D world plugin without the cube ). - andycr512, on 11/05/2007, -0/+19sudo apt-get install 3dglasses
- bhowell, on 11/02/2007, -0/+16It's ok. My mom doesn't come down to the basement that much.
- J2002uk, on 11/05/2007, -2/+16Wow - I know its stupid but at the same time i wish I had some 3D glasses so I could give it a go!
I wonder what happens when you use the cube plugin. Do you see a hypercube.... - InitialDMP5, on 11/04/2007, -0/+11IMAX 3D does not use this. IMAX uses the newer polarized stereoscopic technology. Meaning no red and blue glasses needed. Its in full color. The screen simply flashes two images that are only at slightly different angles. The effect is much more realistic then what is possible with this older tech.
- OBKenobi, on 11/04/2007, -1/+11I got mine from at a Voivod concert. I tried them with the pic in the link and it worked*. I have another pair from a comic book. But I guess you can order them online at a place like this:
http://store.rainbowsymphonystore.com/3dglasses.ht ...
* It's kind of eyestraining to look at white backgrounds with those glasses on. It felt like my retinas were being burned. - Murdats, on 11/04/2007, -0/+9i got mine of some kids magazine they were giving away. I got them for milkdrop (in winamp) visualisations.
if you thought visualisations were trippy before, try in 3d - inactive, on 11/02/2007, -0/+9lol, what about dual monitor stereo pairs? I can sit cross-eyed all day..
- schestowitz, on 11/02/2007, -2/+11Cool. No /everyone/ using a PC will be wearing glasses.
- elai, on 11/04/2007, -0/+8For a polarized lens, I think you need a specialized display to do that. Possibly 2 projectors with 2 different kind of lenses. If your going to go that far, you might as well get that sharp 3D LCD they have and not bother with glasses at all! There best situation is usually a movie theater type situation I think.
- cjh24, on 11/05/2007, -2/+10I wish Windows had an open-source graphics engine for the GUI.
- Kajman, on 11/02/2007, -0/+6yeah... just looking at that picture ruined my eye sight forever.
- zardoz73, on 11/02/2007, -0/+6I remember seeing JAWS 3-D. After about 30 minutes, those glasses give you the biggest headache.
- missingnoh4x, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5I dont care if it gives me a headache, I gotta at least try this out.
- Liniment, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Does this only work with the Red Blue 3D glasses? I have a pair of the clear kind from seeing The Nightmare before Christmas 3D and it didn't work on this.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5You die instantly.
- andywebb95, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5Interesting concept.
If you have a big enough screen (or project it) you might have the desktop version of IMAX 3D. - kaynesan, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5It doesn't get any geekier than that.
- cjh24, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5like a Magic Eye puzzle, my thoughts exactly (although if the monitor's light were polarised, and an lcd filter split the image to each eye, it might work better)
- skyshock1, on 11/04/2007, -2/+6WTF, that's retarded. Use polarized lenses. One is polarized one way one is polarized the other. No fluttering lenses, no goofy colors.
- dukeeeey, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4stereoscopic opengl ;p
http://www.quakesrc.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=770 ... - OutAndAbout, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4Nope, it's up.
- takeda, on 11/08/2007, -0/+3Actually he is right. It was using those color glasses.
- maz2331, on 11/02/2007, -2/+5Nice, but anaglyph really sucks as a technology - especially since real no-glasses 3D LCDs are out there from Sharp. They aren't that expensive either.
- newslang, on 11/03/2007, -2/+5Darn, left my 3D glasses in my other trousers.
- jeffala, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3The 3d images work! Now I know why I have hung onto my Red Blue glasses for the last 10 years!
I know what I am doing tonight - trying to get this plug-in to work on ETQW. - antitab, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2"(go figure- so much for racial purity. sucks eh?)"
You probably would have gotten dugg up if not for that ridiculously unnecessary addition. - InitialDMP5, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2you can get them at Walgreens for FREE right now. They had a special promotion for regis and kelly this week and they still have tons of them. They are near the registers or near the photo counter.
That is what I am using to look at these images and its definitely 3D. Although I could never work this way. My eyes hurt just from the few seconds I spent looking at those images. - diggydougie, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2LCD shutter glasses would do a much better job. Alternating fields are left/right. No color distortion. I've never had much sucess with the red/blue thing, but polarized or shutters do the trick. It's just that you can't polarize a monitor. Actually I bet you could but I haven't seen one.
- specialK16, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2"I can't put explicit erotic stereo images on this server,
but we can trade via email."
lol wtf??? - Ramble, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Sharp and some other companies have tech where you wtick you head in front of a monitor, and if it's in the right area it's 3D. It's pretty cool, but the resolution is awful.
- TheBigBentley, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2I hate red and blue glasses
- natchiketa, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2No way, you're thinking of the Spy Kids movie in 3D. A CG film like Shrek would have used the polarized 3D glasses.
- truck87bp, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2That was really awesome but just after viewing all of the png files (about 2 minutes, way kewl) I removed the glasses and my eyes went terribly weird for about 90 seconds. I wonder what effect this would have on the eyes after several hours. I think the 3D would be better without the glasses by painting the screen with a parallax equal to the spread of the eyes. Every other frame would be left eye the right eye. Real 3D should be achievable if your vid card can handle 60 FPS...30 left and 30 right eye.
Awesome work though...I'm really starting to enjoy the world of open source...you guys rock! - chrismgtis, on 11/02/2007, -1/+3Yes, I just have 3D glasses laying around everywhere for an occasion like this.
- dougmwpsu, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Actually i've done this before. at the time the best software on the market was the nvidia driver plugin. i imagine this is still the case.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo.html
the effect was pretty darn impressive, especially as a showpiece, but for actual everyday gaming it it was buggy, distracting, and held back by ghosting and flickering effects. i lost interest within a few weeks and the lcd shutter glasses went in the junk drawer. - BxBoy, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2I'll await a holographic desktop..
- Philluminati, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2fond memories
- thegododeath, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dstereo_drivers.html
Nvidia has had stereo support for awhile.. - cjh24, on 11/02/2007, -1/+3it happens A LOT
- bobbob1016, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2This does work, but Red/Blue glasses make everything red/blue. The ones they use at disney, the black ones would be better to use, in my opinion.
- zachshmack, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Hey guys I discovered this crazy 3d-surround monitor with ultra high contrast and resolution.
