- Philluminati, on 10/10/2007, -1/+144dugg for linking to the source and not to blogspam!
- Onestone, on 10/10/2007, -6/+96Why not "Horny Hornet"?
- Dokument, on 10/10/2007, -4/+57they are saving it for the three names that come after z z so ittl be hungry hungry hippo
- onedotseven, on 10/10/2007, -4/+57Hungry Hippo!
- MrMinit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52Ubuntu is clearly becoming a great Vista-competitor. I like it :-)
- Senn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+49I guess that's debunked the theory that they won't be using another H name.
- tradwolley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40I would digg that comment, but I don't want to get too close.
- izzybr, on 10/10/2007, -6/+45Sweet. Now, I'm assuming we can see this same story hit the front page about 218 times between now and then right?
- Philluminati, on 10/10/2007, -3/+34I hope they go to three letters, like Big Brown Beaver!
- DangerCollie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28First read I thought it said Hardy Heroin. For mainlining Ubuntu. Was sitting here thinking that really took some balls.
- thetayloreffect, on 10/10/2007, -7/+35Ubuntu released builds more often then I change my underpants! (godblessem).
- SagaLhan, on 10/10/2007, -7/+33I'm still waiting for Hungry Hungry Hobo.
- Reggin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30"Tired of all those viruses and spyware? Screw Microsoft with Ubuntu Hairy Hardon."
- krewemaynard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25I certainly hope they provide a smooth upgrade from Dapper Drake, the current LTS version. I've got 2 servers running Dapper. I'd hate to have to re-install, or upgrade to intermediate versions to get to Hardy. It will be worth watching to see how they handle the jump.
- givemereplay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25I bet Robert Heron, a big fan of Ubuntu, will be happy about the naming choice.
- AirRaven, on 10/10/2007, -7/+28Who on Earth makes up these names?
Microsoft name their development builds after Mountains. The Ubuntu Project name their development builds after randy Deer. - krewemaynard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20You don't change your drawers for 6+ months?
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20The Compiz Fusion effects sure do blow Vista's Aero out of the water.
(Of course that's not Ubuntu specifc, but you get my meaning) - Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22The naming scheme with Ubuntu contains many patterns, such as animals, adjectives and going down the alphabet... but mainly the reasoning for the adjective in front is lost by most Diggers. The name of the adjective usually describes the nature of the release, whether it's unstable/feature-filled (edgy, feisty, gutsy) or focused on stability (dapper, hardy). "Warty" and "Hoary" don't really follow this scheme, but then again they also don't follow alphabetically. This all seemed to start with "Dapper."
- sirhomer, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22Seems like a very conservative estimate to me.
- ninjacob, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21This is the first Ubuntu codename I've hated...I'm going to end up calling it Hairy Hardon by mistake!
- rulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Can be done through autoupdater. You'll be notified automatically when you can upgrade.
- MeneerR, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18I don't think any project has _that_ many versions.
- Hella, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Lol, but 5.04 was Hoary Hedgehog!
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Why? Discrete releases allow them to focus on keeping certain versions very stable and allow support to work better.
- strabes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Not if you block the linux section like you should if you're going to complain on every single one of them.
- Shananra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14A heron is a deer?
- chris86wm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Ubuntu keeps improving with each new release. I cant wait to try this one out!
- louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Maybe they'll rebuild and call it The Firebush.
- renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15As did the 5 other people that already said the same thing.
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13So you're sayin' there's a chance...
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11...that would be the idea of a new release.
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Experience is important. I could rip out all the trim in your car's interior and leave you with some pedals, a steering wheel, a couple buttons, and maybe a radio. You wouldn't be too happy. Do you NEED the trim? no. Does it supplement the usability? Yes.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Hardy Heron? Why didn't they just go ahead and name it Horny Hare?
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10A Vista user calling someone a fag, eh?
- MeneerR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I agree. LTS versions should update to the next LTS version by default!
- crimson117, on 10/20/2007, -3/+12Or Hery Hardon?
- rulus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Hippy Hamster :)
- oneoverzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Classy.
- Stonekeeper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Didn't randy deer used to host a radio show?
- StealthTomato, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9O GUYS DOES ANY GAME USE DX10?
WHAT THEY DON'T?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
etc. - Jofaba, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I don't even care that I'm going to get dugg down. There's "grammar police" and then there's just stupid use of the English language. "... an long term support".
Use of "an" = prior to a word starting with a vowel
Use of "a" = prior to a word starting with a consonant
Acceptable deviations: words that start with a consonant but SOUND like they start with a vowel
I'm not picky. I'm a crappy speller. I'm not the best with grammar. But if you read your sentence out loud and it doesn't sound right, change it.
That said (and again I know I'm being dugg down so why bother, but whatever) I love Ubuntu. I'm running 7.04 and never plan to go back to Windows. There are problems with the OS, but a lot less than Windows, plus it's free! I love everything Ubuntu related. I also hate being dugg down but I just can't help myself, this really irked me. Maybe it's the beer... - trioxylon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7No no, he meant hungry hungry hobo
- MeneerR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7And most Wifi works. If it doesn't .. go complain to the manufacturor of your Wifi board. They should either:
a) make a linux driver like they make a windows driver (microsoft doesn't do that themselves you know!)
b) release the hardware specification, so we can make a driver
c) vote with wallet and buy a wifi-chipset from somebody who doesn't ***** all over its linux customers - TnTBass, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7At least in the Linux world...
- cquilliam, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Any reason why there is another "H" release? We've already seen Hoary Hedgehog....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+12It could be much worse they could name their builds after outed gay republicans!
- starsky51, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I upgraded from Dapper to Feisty via Edgy and it took an age but there is a how-to which explains how to upgrade by installing one version on top of another http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=412183
- daftman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Yea, tell that to Apple too.
