Yeah he was totally serious... - atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Interesting that most of us know more about SCO than Bill Gates.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I love this new quote box I've been seeing around Digg, it makes reading comments much easier. I hope it becomes the norm.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Please capitalize Nerd when addressing us.
- DoodlesMcPooh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12So they guy actually interviewed Bill Gates. He asked the questions himself and you mark it as blogspam?
You sir are Digg Asshat of the year!
I think we should get an award for this guy.
If only I had my dueling glove with me. - gyrfalcon, on 10/28/2007, -2/+7▄Quote:▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

I don't know why you were modded down, but you can tell he is lying through his teeth... Is SCO still around? He damn well knows about SCO! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7i second that nomination for Digg Asshat of the year!
- benplaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That wasn't very much content for an hour...
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Stuarts
Her dad, check the foundation info out again. You missed some things. - demonsofgoetia, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3"If you could ask Bill Gates one question, what would you ask? I spent an hour today with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on the company's Redmond campus."
I'd ask for my hour back. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Answer: money.
That would be a waste of a question. A better one would be "Would you cite me one example of an instance where Linux stole your intellectual property?" - czeman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's interesting that he doesn't cite an any instances where the Linux community stole intellectual property. I heard, and this may not be true, that Win2K was based on the Linux kernel.
Each person should use the OS they're more comfortable with. I prefer Linux, but I know enough about it to work with it. I've only seen a couple distributions so far that make it easier to use, Ubuntu and LinuxXP. The main problem still remains.
Most people don't want to have the skills of a system administrator. The software developers in the Linux community need to realize this, and so do many Linux fans. I hate seeing the Linux experts respond to questions with,"RTFM". These same fans that answer "RTFM" are usually the same ones hoping Linux really catches on in popularity. The answer to the original question actually involves a great deal of command line garbage that not everybody wants to know. Sure, it's good knowledge, but many people want to install software the same way they would in Windows.
I like Windows for its ease of use. I hate it for its instability and SERIOUS security flaws.
I like Linux for its stability and secure nature. I hate how difficult it can be sometimes to install software and resolve dependencies.
We could have a kick-ass OS if we combined the best features of both! It's too bad there is a great deal of stubborness on both sides. - EdLesMann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1win2k was NOT based off of Linux. However, it was HEAVILY influenced by the VMS guys when Microsoft bought out Digital's software team (though a few left for Microsoft before Digital colapsed). Its a well documented point in history so I am not going to bother digging up links unless people really want it.
Now VMS guys were heavily influenced by Unix and BSD so I guess a correlation can be made that win2k is based off of Unix...but thats kinda of a stretch because every OS was influenced by Unix anyway (props to Ken Thompson!)...
In fact it was a bunch of guys from the old VMS team that made 64bit possible for Microsoft (VMS had 64bit back in the 80's). Check out information on David Cutler. He left VMS and is now heading up the development for Microsoft on 64bit OS.
(BTW, I am a huge fan of Digital. I /still/ have Digital servers running and the Uni that I graduated from /still/ has Alpha servers up and running. They were an excelent company and now the name is nothing more then low end HP servers :-'( ). - iamapun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Nah, I know way more about Bill Gates than I know about SCO!
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bill Gates sure knows a lot SCO. Have a look...
http://www.catb.org/~esr/halloween/ - vwgtiturbo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Wow, I about lost it when I read this. Too damn funny!
- parthanant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1MediaVidea has its 5 questions for Bill Gates here.
http://mediavidea.blogspot.com/2006/12/5-questions-for-bill-gates.html - czeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@EdLesMann
Thanks for clearing that up. Like I said, I wasn't sure if it was true or not. I'm sure there is plenty of propaganda from both sides. - h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4"While I didn't get a rundown of each piece of the Linux kernal Microsoft finds infringing, it does seem like Microsoft is just getting started with its intellectual property swaps and settlements with Linux corporations."
If he really used to work for MS, he should at least know how to spell kernel. - DoodlesMcPooh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@h0dg3s
Top of the page
If you could ask Bill Gates one question, what would you ask? I spent an hour today with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on the company's Redmond campus. I chose to ask Bill about Microsoft's intellectual property stance against Linux and its open source developers, from the SCO Group's litigation against IBM to Steve Ballmer's recent claim Linux infringes on Microsoft patents after signing a patent indemnity with Novell.
I can only assume you are a bigger asshat than I first imagined you didn't even RTFA. - DoodlesMcPooh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@h0dg3s
So the transcript of the interview is spam?
Interesting.
By the way if you want to know who Niall Kennedy is he used to work for Microsoft and post his experiences on his blog. It was quite interesting even for a Linux user like me. - brianez21, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Are you being serious?
Honestly, I really can't tell, all those /sarcasm tags have spoiled me.
Those comment boxes remind me of monospaced ASCII bulletin boards. Very ugly on digg. - firemillen2, on 10/28/2007, -4/+3you can ask the richest man in the universe one question and it's about a ***** lawsuit? jesus ***** christ. talk about narrow focus. if this blogger was into video games he'd ask about secret codes in halo 3. you ***** blew it, dude.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I agree with hodg3 that this is blog spam. Through this article we learn nothing new except Bill doesn't know who SCO is. Come on if you find this article informative please share. This guy obviously isn't any kind of real open source advocate, and obviously is more fud probably put out by microsoft to justify the litigation. Please tell how this is not blogspamn, and what we've learned from reading this piece of crap.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3doh! bye
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I love how people are digging me and hodg3 down.. but there only justification of digging it is.. oh he interviewed bill, but we learned nothing...
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2To be fair SCO is far more interesting to us than to Bill Gates. Not to say he has no interest but I don't honestly think he has that much input anymore. Better to leave monkey boy get on with it as Bill saves the world.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Yeah I don't know why he didn't type that up in Word and host in on Google's servers from his gmail account.
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"I love how people are digging me and hodg3 down.. but there only justification of digging it is.. oh he interviewed bill, but we learned nothing..."
It's probably just those 14 year old pro-blog girls again that think everyone should hear their experiences with pre-marital pre-teen sex and how their parents are too hard on them. They think blogs are useful and/or informative when they are neither.
Blogs are the garbage can of the internet, it's where people go to write things that nobody else wants to read. - tuxchick, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8Poor Billg, all that money and success and he still hasn't learned to tell the truth.
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1you win2k is based on the linux kernel and you don't know if it's true, wow are you ever stupid
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9If I were Bill Gates, I'd just sell all my stock since I'd be near the end of my life as it is... and just say, "Yeah, Linux is ***** sweet."
And watch my empire crumble while people fornicate in the streets.
That's what I would do.
Love,
bixing - h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4What the hell makes you think he met Bill Gates? I've never heard of this guy.
This is nowhere near the format a real interview would be in.
There are links all through the article (because it obviously isn't meant to be read).
He doesn't say anything original, everything he says has been said on Digg about 20 dozen times before now.
I bet if I made a blog and said I'd met Steve Jobbs it would make the top story. - Stuarts, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Well, him and Warren Buffet.
I think its a bit rich that his foundation is called the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation.
WTF - What has Melinda brought to the party?
Would have thought the Gates and Buffet Foundation was a bit nearer the mark, seeing as the guy is ponying up about 70 billion dollars!
But yep. Agreed. He is certainly one hell of a philanthropsist - h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2He supposedly spent an hour interviewing Bill Gates and only has one line of comment on it. The rest is just spam.
Perhaps you didn't RTFA, tool. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+10There's no greater philanthropist - His charities far exceed any other. That has to account for something.

INQhack survives Vistability test in Volesville

Microsoft desperately wants my love -- and yours

| I spent December seventh, eighth, and ninth in Seattle as Microsoft's

Be careful out there. Microsoft wants to buy your soul. It has already bought Novell's. http://boycottnovell.com - DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2"If you could ask Bill Gates one question, what would you ask?"
