- Zuggy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27Sounds like somebody got up on the wrong side of the rock
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25> even your parents should be able to follow along.
Heck, this guide is so detailed that even a caveman could do it. ;-) - markperia, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20Sir, that is very condescending. Give a public retraction of that statement or you'll hear from my lawyer.

that crap doesn't help anybody. - NX910a, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14...Unless you want to run programs only available for Windows, of course. Oh, and what about hardware that isn't supported by Linux?
Sigh. - specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7*Ubuntu Ultimate Gamers Edition*
ROFLMAO! - Blisshead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@ Zuggy
I thought that's what I said?
Not a live CD. Maybe I wasn't clear. - Zuggy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@blisshead,
Studio Ubuntu isn't a live CD. It has a text installer similar to the one used on the ubuntu alternate install CD's. - UDIGG8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Can someone tell me what exactly I can do with the Ubuntu ?
Bit curious that's all - thedreaming1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I just love that it's a new piece of virtulization software to play with! Plus I can play with any linux distro and not have to reinstall my system every other week!
- makario, on 09/03/2009, -1/+41) Live CDs are slower
3) Saved Sessions
2) Ubuntu Studio isn't a Live CD - PlaidPhantom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Rip the Windows install CD to an iso and "boot" off it in a virtual machine?
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sad to say, Johnny K, but that ain't quite the case.
You lack the ability to run proprietary Windows games.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a major Linuxer. I've recently converted a die-hard MS fanboy (yes, they exist) to Linux, and help him set up Ubuntu on his primary machine.
He's a gamer though, as I am, so he dual-boots. Like me.
When gaming is there in Linux, I'll use it as my primary OS. 'till then, XP is my gaming OS of choice. - Alethinos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@derek
you never need windows eh?
I'm a diehard mac user, and I occassionally find the need for a windows, surely a linux fanboy can too. - 559624, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I'd rather see it the other way around. Vista or XP on Virtual Box in Ubuntu.
- Pow3rbook, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It isn't hosted on Ubuntu's survers. It is hosted on Simplehelp.net. And either is Ubuntustudio.org if your talking about that (and they shut it down on purpose)
- jerryb123, on 07/01/2009, -1/+3I've been seeing many articles on how to install Ubuntu in Windows lately, any ideas on how to install Windows on a Ubuntu laptop w/ no CDROM or DVD. Thanks.
- clpo13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Live CDs don't always work. I can't use the Ubuntu live CD on my Dell laptop since there are hardware problems.
- andyd273, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2um, its kind of like the Digg effect, but from every Linux user on the internet that has any interest in media creation. Since this effect has no name yet, I shall call it the dork effect...
just kidding... I'm trying to download it right now too... :D - johnnykwest, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@UDIGG8
Just about anything you can do with Windows. Only you'll be doing it without paying MS 400 bucks or pirating any software. Plus you'll be supporting the free and open source software movement. That said, it's not for everybody - but neither is OSX or Windows. - Kylem87, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Sorry for the comment abuse, but duggmirro caught it:

- Phocion55, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5@NX910a: Just stay away from vendors with known crappy Linux support. Fixes that problem.
- jrsims, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2What happened to ubuntustudio.org? Anyone know why it's been down since the supposed "launch" of Ubuntu Studio?
- doomeyes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I tried out Ubuntu just by booting my Windows PC with the Ubuntu CD. Wouldn't this be an easier way to try it out than installing VirtualBox?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"get some REAL self esteem"
WTF? hahahaha
Are we armchair psychologists now? Because you just failed hard. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I think all windows users should try this. Its a great way to run linux without destroying windows, or partitioning. To me, when i was just a little noob, partitioing was difficult to understand, and grub managed to always screw up my windows partition back in the now. (now its way easier) The ubuntu installer has gparted in it, which makes it wonderful. I can remember having to set mount points and create my own swap space. Remember raw write? ouch!
I think windows users should try it, if you screw it up, break it, you haven't hurt anything. - clpo13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Damn Digg effect. You'd think Ubuntu would give their sites enough bandwidth to counter this sort of thing.
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Now the owner of the ftp site to download the iso now wants donations since his site was dugg.
- raynar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3get a better latop.
- Zuggy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3The point of Studio Ubuntu, and one of the things that makes Linux Distros cool is the customization. Instead of going through the pain of finding all the software in the ubuntu repositories and compiling software from source if it's not there I can get a linux distro that has what I want. That's also something that sets Linux apart from windows. You don't have Studio Windows, Firewall Windows and Gaming Windows.
- Chandon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The big advantage to Ubuntu Studio over other versions of Ubuntu is most likely that the audio drivers / jack daemon / kernel are configured properly to minimize audio latency. Running it in a VM on Windows removes that advantage completely - you'll have horrible latency for the VM + the crappy latency you get for Windows.
- txrangersxx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ok why use virtualbox and not vmware which is free and a heck of a lot more stable
- DavidGuetta9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0does anyone know where or know the steps to installing Ubuntu 7.04 FF using Virtualbox?
- DeMiNe0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0What a fag. So much for free software.... I love how he calls it a "Donation" instead of "purchase".
- pal32i, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I don't understand why people want to run or install Ubuntu on temporary basis while you can install it on sepearate partition on winodws xp with simple steps. If you worry that how you will partition the drive then simply use Gparted which comes with Ubuntu or get it from their website. Its quite easy.
While install UbuntuSudio with VirtualBox, you get warning from winXP that its not ok to do something like this is a big no-NO. Dont messing with winXP like this otherwise it will say I told you so! - justoman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3@MisterFlaut
You must have fell in love with a sign at the airport. - generalloy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2"...Unless you want to run programs only available for Windows, of course"
You could virtualize Windows in Ubuntu or run it in WINE if on the small list of supported apps... - DavidGuetta9, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0i'm kinda new to Linux
- 99butcher99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0compared to what you can do now?
Nothing
JAOS
(just another OS) - opes, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2AWESOM!!!
- helinism, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4Great now you just need to explain to your parents why they want Ubuntu installed in the first place...
- Zuggy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1They can also try Wubi, the Windows installer for Ubuntu
- johnnykwest, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0@ Zuggy
>> You don't have Studio Windows, Firewall Windows and Gaming Windows.
No, I believe they offer Proprietary, Retarded and Crash-Prone versions though. Oh, yeah, and Ultimate for those willing to get everything for only 499. - Snowman11, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2And why wouldn't a person use a live cd again?? hmm...
- Blisshead, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2I thought this was NOT a live CD?
- shuffle2, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3sigh.....ubuntu. when will people realize that ubuntu is ubuntu, linux is linux? ubuntu studio has some different packages, big deal. personally that aspect of ubuntu is what i find the most annoying about it....
"oMGz! i have UBUNTU ULTIMATE GAMERS EDITION LEETNESS!!!111" whoa!
stupid and lame - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1youre just another Linux 3l173 hax0r who doesnt want anyone using linux or ubuntu, but if ppl use linux you still want to be able to feel superior by placing it beneath you. get some REAL self esteem
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -13/+3THIS IS STUPID. the ubuntu live install is as easy as ****ing pie. stop making STUPID programs and STUPID 3d cubes and fix up ubuntu so it has more driver support and is more stable.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2Cavemen SUCK.
Neanderthal FTW.
