How to Make People Love Linux
linuxjournal.com — There are two kinds of Linux people in the world, those that will help people fix their Windows spyware problems, and those that will not. I land squarely in the former camp, and I think that it's important for us all to consider doing the same.

- kdruckman, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3Great article, Shawn! Catching more flies with sugar.. or something like that? ;)
- alterImperson, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Actually, he's right. That's how I got a friend of mine to switch to Ubuntu Linux. I just helped her get set up with some of the basic stuff (flash player comes to mind), and showed her some of the different programs to use for what she wants to do, set up the compiz features for her and she's ready to go. She doesn't game, just listening to music surfing the internet and facebook. She was sick of her computer being filled up with junk and running slow. It's old, but as a 17 year old she can't really afford a new one, and Linux really helped it run a lot better.

Just be nice to people no matter what OS or distro they use,I help my windows friends with their problems and showed them Firefox and Thunderbird and they love them but can't get them to switch to Linux.
Sometimes I wish I was the guy from "Thank You for Smoking".
But I can't even get my brother to switch to Hardy Heron because Mepis works fine for him so... - latova, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1You should of called it "HOWTO: Make People Love Linux"

- BigManOnCampus, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I tried. I gave my parents Ubuntu after their last run-in with spyware/trojan crap.
After a week or so, they called me up asking if I could help get them back on the network.
I asked "why?"
"Well, we had Roger come in and put windows back on for us."
Roger was my sisters current flame at the time and major microsoft fanboy. I literally once heard him say, "Windows Vista is the greatest operating system ever." for the record, my mouth flopped open.
I refused to help my parents after that. I've told them numerous times what causes crapware to get loaded on their machine. They don't learn.
