- JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pirates of the Caribbean III should totally be about software/music/movie piracy. I can just see the plot of treasure and theft and curses now.
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How? Umm well if you have them, AK-47's and RPGs....but better yet, don't sail that yatch of yours anywhere near somalia...
- hackershandbook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i did RTA and it clearly used the word "pirates" in an inapproptiate manner ..... "legal IP leeches" might be a more appropriate phase
- chieffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"(Unlike linux community who steal it from others and give it to the poor)"
What do you mean? The linux community don't steal from ANYONE.
They do, however, give to the poor... and the rich and everyone in between.
It's a level playing field people. - chieffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RTA.
It's not talking about how to stop people who violate copyrights (who I don't think should be called "thieves" as they really aren't stealing anything that can be owned... IMO).
The article is also not referring to the "pirates of the high-seas" but "pirates of the IP" (okay I was trying to be clever by rhyming phonetically).
It is referring to the lawyers and companies that file ridiculous patents and who use, abuse and manipulate the laws of the land to perpertrate crimes against humanity. - hackershandbook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Calling copyright violators "pirates" does a major disservice to all the people who are killed, raped and kidnapped for ransom on the high seas every year. Piracy is a real problem and has been linked to terrorism - there are many places in the world where it is not safe to sail a ship.
Lets call people who steal copyrighted stuff "copyright violation thieves" and address the real problem of real pirates who seem to loot, maim, rape and kill with virtual impunity.
When the homes of the RIAA/MPAA are invaded by REAL PIRATES - then something might get done about the piracy problems - until then worrying about how to stop people distribute their rubbish for them will remain their only concern. - neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now now, I prefer Linux too, but Microsoft aren't really -pirates-. I'm sure they do provide some sort of service that is useful to some people.
They're more like,,.. your friendly neighbourhood protection racket =) - XVampireX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lets start with pirates like Microsoft who steal from others and take it to themselves(Unlike linux community who steal it from others and give it to the poor).
