- innergeek, on 08/18/2008, -0/+15Just search for Desktop Drapes in the software repositories. Easy to add and use.
- forceuser, on 08/18/2008, -2/+14Why is this on the front page?
- serenityflexed, on 08/18/2008, -0/+4GNOME (>=2.22) can already rotate wallpapers based on the time (I think I remember reading that it came from Fedora) ...

It's easier than using gnome-schedule; just set a .xml as the wallpaper in Appearance. - linksus, on 08/18/2008, -0/+4Use "Wallpaper tray". It sits in your tray and rotates your desktop BG every minute.
- innergeek, on 08/18/2008, -0/+4try browsing the desktop images at interfacelift.com. You can browse by screen resolution.
- werries, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3You can have different wallpapers no problem. google it.
- starsky51, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3I quite enjoy my unproductive knob-twiddling. Don't take it away from me D:
- theaceoffire, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3Photoshop is kind of a huge program just to rotate wallpaper, isn't it?

You don't have to download anything for this. - sn0wmis3r, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3Check out the HD wallpaper section of deviantart.com
They have some good stuff too. - contemplate, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2I was just being grumpy

- lolcat23, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2funny dick though. i laughed
- quarryman, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2Anyone know of a good wallpaper pack to go with this?

No, really, how much time you spend watching at clear desktop? - thefinger, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Never mind this tweaky content! I want to have squishy wet deep sex with Gina Trapani!

it's just that geek chicks make me crazy-horny - Vadi0, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1I recommend http://www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=webilder
- cwgannon, on 08/19/2008, -1/+2Right, except a different desktop environment than comes with the default Ubuntu.
- 3leggedHorse, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Wallpapoz is as good as desktop drapes.
- vvelox, on 08/18/2008, -1/+2I actually wrote a little command line program that can do the same thing, except it is much more versatile. Works great if one combines it with cron.

Thanks! - SteveMax, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1At least on KDE this is right on the desktop configuration dialog. Just select the images/directories you want to rotate, tell it to use them sequentially or select one by random, and the time between changes. It's independent for each desktop, too. That would be one minute of configuration to dramatically decrease your chances of ever being tired of your desktop background; and selecting directories gives you the option to just copy images there to add them to the rotation.
Really, this is a typical case of "Gnome = good defaults, few configuration options" versus "KDE = bad defaults, highly configurable", except that in this case there is no clear reason for not having this option in Gnome. Selecting a directory instead of a file to make the desktop background rotate among its contents wouldn't add an option, and would be pretty straightforward for the user to figure out (maybe with a "tip" underneath). The only problem would be the aberration that is the GTK file/directory selector, which AFAIK doesn't have a "mixed selection" mode. - mdman, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1wow.. Im glad I use windows....
- slapthemonkey, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Interesting.
- knight666, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Because the Digg algorithm is *****.
- dannydowney, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1this is very interesting indeed and helpful.
- Sherlockindo, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1I like it!
- X4man, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1interesting
- cwgannon, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Hmm, same story here.
With 4 GB of RAM, Drapes takes me from 39% to 56% of that capacity; that is, (I'm assuming 4.0, not 3.9 GB) 1560 to 2240 MB, meaning Drapes is allocating itself 680 MB of RAM. That's nuts. The directory Drapes is pointed at contains 341 images, totaling 168 MB, more than the RAM usage by a factor of 4.
Back to Wallpaper Tray. Granted, I never had a reason to switch. - ShutYourPieHole, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1When it works, perhaps. I've never seen an application manage to allocate 2GB of RAM and 100% of swap. Somehow Drapes did that. Shouldn't matter what you were adding, monitoring, etc.., no application should be able to accomplish that and be recommended.
- fen35, on 08/18/2008, -0/+0very interesting this press release
- ramiknet, on 08/18/2008, -0/+0I have been wondering yesterday of a way to change gnome wallpapers with scripts, and guess what, today i find the article !!!

- eliubile, on 08/18/2008, -3/+3Changing the wallpapers and rotating the Compiz cube are some of the best videogames availabe on Linux
- polyp2000, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1I want the ability to have a wraparound wallpaper, say if im using desktop cube or one of the other switchers , the ability to have a background that spans all of them. Failing that it would also be nice to have the option to set a different wallpaper for each desktop space.
N. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+3waste of time
- davidtheobscure, on 08/18/2008, -3/+2This would be great to integrate into Ubuntu. Showing this off to my design friends yielded many an ooh and ahh.
- contemplate, on 08/18/2008, -3/+2Its articles like this that give me the ominous feeling that the grim reaper is barreling down on Linux like a speeding train on Nell. I hope Dudley Do-right rides up soon.
- reformedgeek, on 08/18/2008, -1/+0What makes you think that?
