- ileftfark, on 11/30/2008, -0/+59Just a tip - GIMP can save images in a compressed format natively, simply by appending ".gz" at the end of the filename. No need to save a picture and then compress it separately.
☑ Show these tips at startup - tonyhartfield, on 11/30/2008, -7/+55"like your girlfriend’s photo for example"
linux users don't have girlfriends - NixiePixel, on 11/30/2008, -2/+33Yes! Now I can see porn as my computer boots...
- tonyhartfield, on 11/30/2008, -0/+24unfortunately i use linux and have no girlfriend
- rabidg00se, on 11/30/2008, -0/+20Jesus. The comment itself was good, but the checkbox put you over the top. GG.
- ptFoe, on 11/30/2008, -0/+16BSOD screen would be great
totally ***** noobs trying to boot up your computer when you are away. - zarque, on 11/30/2008, -0/+14finally a linux tutorial that isnt teaching you how to install .deb packages.
- pHreaksYcle, on 11/30/2008, -1/+15People who say that usually don't use linux. So, show us pics of yours, please.
- fprintf, on 12/01/2008, -0/+12The instructions are incorrect. Where the article says to edit menu.lst to include the following line: splashimage=XXXXXX/boot/grub/splashimages/bootwallaper.xpm.gz , he does not recommend changing anything but the XXXXXX. Unfortunately this line does not match the rest of the text where you create a folder of a different name. Furthermore you can see in the image above this statement where his filename has been corrected.
- minnasouljah, on 11/30/2008, -0/+12What the ***** dude!?!?
- censormagnet, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11hes right, they have wives, see for linux users everything is more stable ;)
- zarque, on 11/30/2008, -0/+10linux is my girlfriend
- OrangeSoda31, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9sudo apt-get girlfriend
- spyd3rweb, on 11/30/2008, -0/+8Who still uses lilo out of spite for grub?
- troymccluresf, on 11/30/2008, -0/+7Oh, come on, that's pretty funny.
- OrangeSoda31, on 12/01/2008, -1/+8*click* I hate these stupid tips.
- MavRevMatt, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6@tonyhartfield, that sucks.
The girlfriend bit, not about using Linux. - rayefrenzy, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6apparently, linux users can't be girls either. /eyeroll.
- tonyhartfield, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6I'm a linux user and I'm an unemployed computer science graduate who sits around all day smoking weed and masturbating don't stereotype me (this may also explain my lack of a girlfriend)
- tonyhartfield, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6they can, they just have to be lesbians
- adkenc, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5dugg for being something people would want to know how to do. it's written well and has nice examples, i hope the info is right. off to try...
- erkokite, on 11/30/2008, -0/+5DO NOT WANT!!!
- volanin, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5GRUB runs before the kernel.
By the way, its function is exectly to load it. - inactive, on 11/30/2008, -0/+5ur mom?
- pHr34kY, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Actually, the wife/girlfriend always wants a copy of windows in the background in case they want to get something done the Microsoft (read: retarded) way.
In which case, you'll need to dual boot, and you'll need a GRUB OS selection screen to display each time. Might as well make it pretty.
For the record, my GRUB boot screen has been a wedding photo for the last few months. - koolto, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4***** you man, that's gross.
- smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4It's comments like this that make me glad we left FARK.
- jvincent08, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3I use Linux and I'm single, but I don't believe the two are related..
- Rekutyn, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3*hand shoots up*
I use it for my LInux kitsch, I'm on GRUB for my BSD installs though. - nickpick, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3There really should be a GTK tool for doing this sort of thing more or less automatically. That is, inserting the image, moving about the text-fields, etc,
- inactive, on 11/30/2008, -1/+4I, for one, thought it was hilarious.
- stormgren, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Dammit tonyhartfield you look like my future.
- smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3@tonyhartfield
Well, at least your userpic is...apt? - jman0591, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2Correction: False.
- leamanc, on 11/30/2008, -2/+4No, they are generally married, gainfully employed and NOT living in the wood-paneled basements of their parents' house.
Most people I've found that fit the typical negative geek stereotypes use Windows. - ethana2, on 11/30/2008, -1/+3Kernel Mode Setting come quickly...
- nickpick, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2Almost, OrangeSoda31. It's:
sudo apt-get install girlfriend - DreadKnight, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2Good one! :D
- orrinbloquy, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2Why don't you have a seat over there
- srg13, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2I don't really like Grub splash screens anymore - it's just silly using a 640x480, 14 colour image on some of the (relatively) huge screens we have now - best is to just put a one second timeout on Grub and use the silent mode, so you just get to the OS's splash quickly.
- DreadKnight, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately they do have girlfriends....
- srg13, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2That won't affect Grub at all - Grub is the bootloader - it runs before (and starts) the kernel.
- GavinZac, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1***** you, Seaweed!
- socokoolaid, on 12/01/2008, -1/+2He kinda missed that part, but I would think most people would figure it out.
- tnoy, on 12/01/2008, -1/+2The butchish Rosie Odonnell type of lesbian, too.
- ethana2, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1I'd prefer we avoid running non-OS code at all, if possible... I think bootloader stuff should all be done via the GUI...
'reboot into Windows' 'reboot into Fedora' 'load updated OS kernel'
..same with the BIOS. - pHreaksYcle, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Encore.
- artofwot, on 12/01/2008, -2/+3Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
Alright, I will never use that stupid expression again. I promise. - mhmdkhamis, on 02/04/2009, -0/+0The instructions are incorrect.
