- nxusername, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25I like the part where Bill Gates gets hit in the face with a pie. Classic.
- BrainInAJar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14UNIX beard... well known phenomenon
- geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Everyone should check out "Revolution OS" as well, it's a fantastic documentary about the Free Software movement in general and Linux in particular.

Nor does Google's nasty compression :p - nxusername, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14No one said a Linux advocate did it. The people who did it wanted to make a statement.
Better with a pie than with a gun. - TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13avi:

I'm still struggling to understand finnish :)
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Like Linus said, this was not intended to be a Don Quixote type thing.
Just as something for students.
He holds no ill will against Microsoft.
This is a good attitude, better than the all or nothing battle some open source nut cases have.
So, please stop embarrassing the guy. - whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Bill has a good sense of humor if you ask him about it.
- JohnnyRad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8what's with the beards in this video?
- mulling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Fairer and Balanceder: bananaphone.
http://www.allmedia.com.au/bananana/ - linuxrebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sure just go here
https://shipit.kubuntu.org/
and fill out the form... multiple copies both 64 and 32 bit available. - Skizzot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I going to watch it later tonght. Someone let me know if it's any good.
- toodamfast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just watched the "Revolution OS" (torrent link posted above) and it is 10 times better than "The Linux Code." The encoding is clear, its 25 minutes longer, and all in English.
- kolanos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Finns aren't really known for their beard growing ability.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Who said anything about hating proprietary technology? Oh I get it, you think that Linux users worship RMS or something. That's cute, it's just too bad almost everyone I know who runs Linux also runs Windows and/or Mac OS X. So much for your little fantasy.
Fortunately there are lots of people who like Linux and open-source software in general, and maybe even support free software, but don't make everything a battle against [any proprietary company]. Hence the 2 groups: Open-source and Free software. Guess which one's bigger.
I'm not saying there's no overlap, I'm just saying that not everyone's a fanatic. I'm typing this on my MacBook, and have my Linux box next to me (and Linux running in a VM on my MacBook :). I fully believe that free and open-source software is useful and I love being able to tinker with apps that I want to behave differently, but I don't go around telling people that they need to change their OS and make some sort of statement. I just think it's great software that does what I need/want... and when I don't, I can change it. The ideals behind the FSF are nice, but not everyone has to agree with me on that and I respect anyone's right to choose a proprietary solution if that's what works for them. - JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Richard Stallman for the win. =)
- toodamfast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would say 80% is in english. I just watched it, nice for a Linux noob (like myself) to get some background info.
- Mephux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Great stuff.. I bet NOT ONE windows user will watch the whole movie. Linux is great but i have always been a unix fan. Thank you AT&T!
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anybody have a high-quality version? I see the avi version above... but I was wondering if anyone had the original (ie. non-googleified) source.
- Seta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have the original that I believe this came from. The only version of this that was spread was a TV broadcast from Finland (as the people speaking finish aren't subtitled), and like the Google video version, the audio is a tad silent. While it's not very high quality, it's better than the posted version if only by a little. I can't find it on the torrents though, at least not in the usual places, and I'd rather someone tries to find a torrent before I put it up somewhere. The size is 602MB, there are other lower quality versions (about 300MB), but this isn't exactly HD anyway. If you can find a smaller torrent with seeds, you might wanna go for that.
- herculez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5So y'all know, this is half in Finnish...
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'm a few minutes in and wow that's kind of some ***** there. This stuff started way before Linus came along. The GNU project was started in late 1984
Here's a (I'd say another but I'm just starting to watch this one) very great and very relevant documentary as well:

EDIT: geekdreams beat me to it. - dotwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe we aired it on AssemblyTV a few years ago... But I can't find it on scene.org, so it must have not been cleared for free distribution.
I've looked here: http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fparties%2F2003%2Fassembly03%2Fassemblytv/
and in the 2004 directory. If you find it elsewhere... Hey, bonus for you! - blacsun21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1joach, that was a joke right? You didnt know he spoke Swedish.
- spiffytech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's OK- mostly stuff that anyone who's used Linux for a few years will know anyway, but it has some good, brief interviews with Linus, RMS, etc. Even some parts where RMS's notions sound reasonable! (Yes, I know that his ideals would be nice, but he often doesn't seem to understand the reality of the world)
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Windows user or not, I'm not watching a 57-minute long movie on Google Video. Post a torrent or something. If you hate proprietary technology so much, why are you watching Flash video?
- Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3In the video he looked pretty ticked off...
- directedition, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4At little too Stallmany. Otherwise a great video.

* Available through Blockbuster Online - jt32470, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Open source, free software, GNU , etc whatever you want to call it. Linus Torvalds is one of the most influential figures in the last few decades period (IMO). I can just imagine if Nikola Tesla hadn't died, and would have been able to see his dreams through (free energy) Then there would be (open source) energy Vs. Energy Monopolies a no brainer if you ask me. .Same holds true for Linux/Unix. The guy took the high road and wherever he may go where there are tech savvy individuals he'll get the celebrity treatment (unlike bill gates who gets pats on the backs from his employees (brown nosers)) ...Very cool video indeed
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So I guess maybe we should stop calling Linux a Unix until Torvalds gets his act together and grows a giant beard. ;-) ... well, maybe Alan Cox' beard is so unwieldy to compensate for Linus' clean mug.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They didn't say that about the community, they said it about Linus.
- Huwawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's an ed2k link(for emule, Shareaza, etc): ed2k://|file|Revolution OS.avi|735442944|4DF0329803E34C9FA868D97E6C33B14A|/
- tj_walker_dvt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice piece of history to have watched. I recall discovering this Linux OS in 94. I have been on board since.

www.furrmusic.com - joach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't know Linus Torvalds spoke Swedish, that's cool!
- asadajk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1when will revolution os come in public domain? hmm....
- joach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Linus mother says: It is funny to Linus as a Stand-up Guru these days, talking relaxed in front of big crowds all the time. It's quite different from when he was young, being very shy and sort of withdrawn. He never initiated contact with other people, it was always other people who took the first step in getting to know him.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4bunch of hippies with beards. are you surprised?
- mumpf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For German (and maybe French) users: The TV-Channel ARTE showed the documentation "Codename Linux" (It contains parts of this video). Maybe they will show it again or you can find it via torrent or emule.
- xenoterracide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0any ogg video's out there? maybe with subtitles for the finnish parts in english. I hate to say it but I've no time to learn a foreign language at this time.
- sheik, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6I love how they say an open community like this could only be started in Finland. I think what they meant to say was the United States :)
- cantormath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0this is really old.....been up for a while.
- rockets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1So, do I get a free DVD or something at the end of it ??? :P
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1qweerqwer
- djgandy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4That's so you can skip forward to the part where you fell asleep the night before.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5Actually, I find that embarassing.
- nxusername, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to need a meatier description before I dip into a random Windows system for an hour. "Well worth using" doesn't quite do it for me.
Nor does Microsoft's nasty compression :p
