- xcbxcb, on 09/10/2008, -11/+99I love how everybody is dogging this dude's accent.
How many languages do YOU speak? Oh? One?
Yeah. You. Put down the Haterade and step slowly away from the condescension. - YodaJones, on 09/10/2008, -4/+90For $98 you can almost throw it away when the battery runs out. This computer costs less than some inkjet cartridges.
- hwy9nightkid, on 09/10/2008, -8/+61"its a reaaaaaaallllllllll lapTOP"
lol - KhaaL, on 09/10/2008, -8/+52From the comments..
comp_wiz101: "Funny, I didn't realize Borat did tech reviews..."
QFT - inactive, on 09/10/2008, -1/+37where can i buy one?
- colinjnk, on 02/25/2009, -2/+36It has a browser icon that says FireFox.
- ironhide, on 09/10/2008, -3/+31I could be wrong, but I think he meant when the battery "wears out" - as in doesn't hold a charge anymore.
- GRAVEWiSH, on 09/10/2008, -3/+25"Back to myyyy....wifi.....browsing fun."
- JazzFlight, on 09/10/2008, -1/+21Well, at the very least (with no other features), a WiFi laptop for $98 that lets you browse with firefox is worth the price.
Then again, it is a shady Chinese company, and I know the quality of cheap knock-off devices... - macaca, on 09/10/2008, -4/+23But MSM was busy talking about APPLE then this inexpensive laptop. Too bad.
- chanop, on 09/10/2008, -1/+17custom linux? who would have thought
- p322401, on 09/10/2008, -1/+17is it just me or is the entire interview with the rep from the company nothing but 6 min of boob shots
- leif777, on 09/10/2008, -3/+18I speak 3 and it's still pretty funny... now may I my glass of Haterade please?
- nrballard, on 09/10/2008, -4/+18"You can see it has a real menu! It has a real...Linux...looks like Linux. Some kind of Linux is here..."
- Trax91, on 09/10/2008, -1/+13Jesus, I just envisioned millions of netbooks in a great big thrash dump.
- 4321234, on 09/10/2008, -4/+16Guy sounds like he swallowed a lolcat.
- FredFredrickson, on 09/10/2008, -3/+15Yeah, too bad OLPC turned out to be a really stupid idea, huh?
- yoda17, on 09/10/2008, -0/+10A few hundred dollars. That's why. This is down in the impulse buy range.
- basex, on 09/10/2008, -0/+10this is amazing for travelling
- planckstudios, on 09/10/2008, -1/+11...some kind of linux in here...
http://hvsco.com/ for more info in the company - AtheismFTW, on 09/10/2008, -0/+10Not for an AIDS detecting machine.
- orangefly, on 09/10/2008, -3/+13what if we work IT....???....condescension is part of my job requirement....
- Riffraffs, on 09/10/2008, -0/+9all I want is to know where to get one
- trogdoor, on 09/10/2008, -0/+9I understand no flash because it's not x86 but where are you getting no ajax? ( The second half of the video isn't loading for me but nothing for the first half suggests no ajax, it does run firefox after all )
- keyme, on 09/10/2008, -0/+8My Pentium 2 (with 128mb of RAM) handles youtube easily. The only thing that would stop this laptop from being good with flash is the fact that flash sucks on Linux.
- bbtweb, on 09/10/2008, -2/+10The price tag is great, but it still can't be compared to the OLPC laptop. It is missing many of the key features that made the OLPC so appealing - i.e. screen alpha feature for reading in broad daylight, water, dirt, etc. proof, etc.
- bj1989, on 09/10/2008, -0/+8Which is ridiculous.
- xcbxcb, on 09/10/2008, -3/+11I hate to split linguistic hairs here, but if 99% of the native speaker population is pronouncing something a certain way, that way is - for all intents and purposes - the "correct" way.
- spydon, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7Poor boy, never learned how to charge a laptop :(.
- mentaldingo, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7"Linux" doesn't just have one gui.
- theaceoffire, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7Hi, Orangefly. What's happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports....Yeah.
Did you get that memo? Yeah.
It's just we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports before they go out now. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great.
All right! - inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7http://hvsco.com/sp_qx.asp?id=78
That right there is pretty sexy and perfect to throw into your backpack/sling bag for surfing on the go. Too bad there's no price listed. :/ - PRlME, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7how so?
- LordC, on 09/10/2008, -1/+8keep watching. the new model is $98
- xcbxcb, on 09/10/2008, -2/+8Almost certainly more pleasant to listen to than your Danish.
- theaceoffire, on 09/10/2008, -1/+7Yes.
It runs 10 copies of Bioshock while Crysis is running in 30 windows, with 100 copies of google chrome running in security mode downloading all the internets to the 3209 terraflop sd card.
Now go away. - Evi1d33d, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6Out of Stock right now and they are charging $180 for it:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ALPHA-400& ... - xcbxcb, on 09/10/2008, -1/+6After a little digging (loal?), the dude is from Denmark.
- dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -0/+5Should people be paying for things they don't need? I love a high-end computer as much as the next guy but when I see people buying an expensive computers I laugh in the inside. They pay thousands of dollars just browse the internet and use Microsoft Word...
- pahool, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5It has a real Linux!
- stuffradio, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5and a Firefox browser!
- sirhomer, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5It's the "laptop shell" which matters. Anyways I have a desktop from 10 years ago with an 133MHz processor and 32MB RAM, that costed when my family bought it over $2000. I assume you'd consider that a PDA too, right? As you can see from the video, the performance of this thing is more then suitable for web browsing and e-mail, and probably software development, and probably a thousand other things. Really, you'd be surprised what is possible with 400,000,000 clock cycles per second. That's a massive amount of power that people really take for granted these days.
- mrsteveman1, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5Let Apple have the spotlight all they want. OEMs are being completely shut out of the Apple ecosystem, and sooner or later all this attention behind the scenes on Linux will pay off, both for users and OEMs, and in some cases it already is.
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5You can contact the producer directly: http://www.hvsco.com/ - currently not for sale yet.. as you heard the woman say it will be out soon. Otherwise they are based in Shenzhen in China - so if by any chance your dropping by Hong Kong just take the train up and you can visit them, takes about an hour. Think its about 60-80 HKD roundtrip. Otherwise i'm sure there is a digger out there based in HK that will be able to take a few orders :)
- se1zure, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Thats what they have restrictions for on the unencrypted wireless network. Liek axcess to wikipedia, and a small list of sites.
- RoboDonut, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4"hacker toy" ... "windows"
Does not compute. - se1zure, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Now THIS is cool! It would be so nice to have a laptop like this for notes in school. I go to an inner city 'magnet' high school, where unfortunately I wouldn't think twice about bringing a full blown laptop (or even an eeepc to). I would love to take notes in class on a laptop, but you would be crazy to bring an expensive computer there to have stolen.
A $100 laptop that can browse the net and run office would be so cool, and such a great opportunity for schools to hand out laptops to students for their year at the school. It would definately promote organization and productivity if they threw on a calender/student planner progra. - EricAnderton, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4That's nothing. Imagine where all the world's Intel 80286,80386 and 80486 PCs are now.
Sobering, isn't it? :( - trogdoor, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4I can play streaming youtube videos on an old 400mhz PPC mac running linux but only through mplayer or VLC ( grabing the URL for the .flv directly with sites like keepvid )
- jsauter, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Your comment justified me digging out my headphones.
