It is indeed a tragedy that Nina has disappeared and Hans is in jail. But hopefully, Hans can get to work on Reiser4 now without any interruptions from female creatures. - krypnos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+70Anyone else's jaw hit the floor reading this? I found it quite surprising. Even if he is aquitted, I wouldn't be surprised if ReiserFS gets a new name.
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54It's OSS, man. Other devs can take up the development or fork it.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46But the journaling should prevent it...not that it has so far.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -9/+50I installed the Reiser File System and found this really odd to be honest:
"Are you sure you want to murder this file?" - jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -33/+74He probably tried to start using Linux as a full-time desktop operating system and went crazy :-/
- DesScorp, on 10/12/2007, -11/+44So do we say that ReiserFS is a "killer filesystem" now?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+39MurderFS
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+38This just in, nerds kill people too. Watch out...............RWAR!
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31@JamesWilson
It was no doubt posted by someone who has never shared the company of one of those "female creatures". - PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36Shut the ***** up.
- garethevans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27How many male models do you know that are also highly dedicated open source developers?
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -20/+46I warned you all this Linux "open sourcery" was no good!!! I WARNED YOU!!!
- plagiats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22hey people, he is still innocent till judged guilty
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Yeah man it uses frames..maybe...maybe he's getting framed...that's what he's trying to say.
- f0ad, on 10/12/2007, -12/+30I'm completely with you, my jaw dropped and all I could think about was "my FS".
- Rapax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Apparently, he came home and caught her formatting her root partition with ext3. Then things escalated.
- xtr3m, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Linux kiddie gone wrong.
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Er, I am sure it's referring to Nina's boyfriend...
- BuddhaPhi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Moonwell, Are you an idiot? Nevermind... Everyone, just bury this ass clown's comment.
- icecubed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Her Boyfriend, that's why i somewhat hate English, you have to say Mr. or Mrs. all the time.
- benplaut, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26That's one killer filesystem...
(i can't take credit for this, unfortunately) - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Actually no, most of them work for Fortune 500 companies or teach at MIT.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I hope they don't seek the death penalty.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Timeline:
1998: Hans Reiser found online a beautiful russian woman.
1999: The woman comes to the USA and they married (she loved him)
1999: She cheats on him
2000: They have children
2000: She cheats on him
2001: She cheats on him
2002: He realizes she doesn't love him, she realizes she can now stay in USA
2002: She cheats on him
2004: They divorce
2005: She wants $130.000
2006: He murders her. - HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -11/+23well let's all /root that he's innocent and development of ResierFS can continue unimpeded.
- w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Ummm ...wow? Blocked.
- FallibleDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yep, this is just ONE of the benefits of Free and Open Source Software (aka FOSS). Too many great technologies disappear because the company that develops it goes bust, or because rivals sell inferior products in huge marketing campaigns, or because their inventors die, or because the company sees more profit in another product, etc. Work that helps society should be openly visible to society, so that other people can take up the torch if for some reason, the lead developers drop it. ReiserFS4 is amazing technology, that does stuff microsoft failed to do with Vista.
Thankfully, at least the case of this technology, Hans was one of the good guys, and has left his work for the benefit of us all, even as his personal life falls apart, for whatever reason. - PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14That's what they said about Michael Jackson. Being proven innocent doesn't mean ***** in the western world. Innocence does not sell, nor is it appealing, it's not entertaining...and people choose to believe, they want to believe the worst. ***** up, huh?
I can't see Hans continuing his work on the FS if he is proven innocent. This will stick with him forever, and for that, I feel sorry for him - if he is innocent. - icecubed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15This is just awful.
- vroomfondel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14He just killed one of my hard disks too :-(
- Lobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11May all involved find some peace
- MadMan2k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I wondered about that too.. it does say that she's 'estranged', and apparently her last name is still Reiser
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Ask your psychologist if he can increase you meds.
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13You know enough Linux people to know how they seem, yet don't know whether they live with their moms in their basement or not. How's that now?
Either way, you're a class A dumbass. - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14One person is missing and possibly dead and the lives of two children have been shattered and you people are worried about the development of a filesystem?
And they say compassion is dead. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11There's no body and apparently no motive. I think there's a good chance he's innocent.
- lobsang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10BOYFRIEND may mean "Male Friend", as in "BOY Friend", or "Male Lover". It's not clear from the context, but I'd suppose the second.
This is a source of confusion. The first time I came to the US, I'd hear women mentioning their "girlfriends" all the time. My first thought was "Man, this place rules! All women are lesbians!!!" :) - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19Anthony Zografos, Reiser's boyfriend, said, "I have no thoughts. Until they find Nina, I don't know what to think."
BOYFRIEND? Wow it looks complex. - neftaly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I wish the "community moderated" approach to Digg also let the community permaban members from the internets =/
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Jameswilson, that's a troll. You can tell from the link they provided (GNAA, probably NSFW).
- dBLiSS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Microsoft Press Release:
Microsoft is sorry for this unfortunate incident. Microsoft would like to remind customers of it's Murder-Free OS and Filesystem.
..hmmm is that in bad taste? - SwellJoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I'll add that Hans is incredibly smart, and works like a dog. And despite his reputation for being difficult, I really enjoyed working with him several years ago. His intensity and focus is inspiring. Not only nerds find that sort of thing pleasant...some girls like it, too.
- dicerandom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Unfortunately the ReiserFS source code may serve as proof of a diseased and insane mind...

PS: That's sarcasm, for people who can't tell ;) - lowesch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Geeks not equal wives ?
So you mean that if you're somebodys wife you can't be a geek or?
Strange way of expressing yourself... - Wyzard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7No, not really. It has nothing to do with open-source software development.
Does the Clinton sex scandal mean we should think twice about democracy as a form of government? - BaronVonLeezard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Christ. Let's hope that she's ok and Hans didn't do this.
On a less humanist, compassionate note... man, this does not bode well for future versions of RieserFS.
Have I mentioned how f***ing crazy this is? Yikes. - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I just said that so I could use the word "seek" but that was interesting, thanks.
- honkyman5000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Am I the only one who thought the Namesys site is a little odd?
