- dumpyhumpy, on 04/09/2008, -0/+65They should change that Windows key to a Tux
- harrisbradley, on 04/09/2008, -2/+64"Mini Note Micro Notebook", WTF?? That is some pretty redundant redundancy.
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -9/+62finally a good laptop that you get without having to pay for windows ***** vista.
- SilentSpyder, on 04/09/2008, -7/+41But does it fit in a manila envelope?
- baalzebub, on 04/09/2008, -1/+24interesting, runs suse, i wish there were more details on the hardware specs - chipset, wifi & etc...
and software details too, does it require ndiswrapper for incompatible hardware components that do not run natively in Linux??? just questions any Linux should and would want... - inactive, on 04/09/2008, -6/+27still to rich for my blood (at least, for what this is supposed to do)
Why can't *anybody* hit the $100 (or even $200) subnotebook pricepoint yet? - cIprO, on 04/09/2008, -0/+19http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4 ...
link to review - neonpulse, on 04/09/2008, -0/+14It has Broadcom WiFi and LAN, but with a current kernel you shouldn't need ndiswrapper. It would be silly of HP to load Linux onto a laptop and sell it if that hardware wasn't natively compatible with Linux.
- 3nnRG, on 04/09/2008, -2/+16full specs and review at www.notbookreview.com I beleive its still on teh front page.
- 3nnRG, on 04/09/2008, -0/+14grr. comment system error wouldnt let me edit url is as follows
www.notebookreview.com - EvilMoose, on 04/09/2008, -0/+13I'd wait until ATOM UMPCs come out this Summer.
- phenolholic, on 04/09/2008, -0/+13maybe you should steal one, masterthief
- Jibberwalk, on 04/09/2008, -0/+12Redundant redundancy is redundantly redundant.
- grungegbunny, on 04/09/2008, -2/+13I want one! The $499 price tag is a bit steep tho I think. I would pay $350.
- lukas88, on 04/09/2008, -0/+11As an owner of a Eee PC, I can say this looks pretty tasty. The Eee PC made me realize how much I like small computers, but I don't like the feel of the keyboard. It isn't the size, it is the flimsyness. It is a shame when they have such a sweet little machine but skimp on something as simple as the keyboard.
- specialK16, on 04/09/2008, -1/+12"It would be silly of HP to load a laptop and sell it if that hardware wasn't natively compatible"
Don't be silly. - Seidoger, on 04/09/2008, -0/+10And also don't you forget to tell us how it went, and how nice it is to have an OS-less computer.
- RevJonathan, on 04/09/2008, -0/+10I don't think there's a modern laptop under 13" that doesn't fit in a manilla envelope.
- danielwsmithee, on 04/09/2008, -0/+10Sounds like something HP would do.
- jcannonb, on 04/09/2008, -4/+13HP+Linux FTW
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -0/+8ASUS eeePC doesn't have f*ing windows key!
- wTheOnew, on 04/09/2008, -1/+9And I don't Digg people that don't use the reply button.
- argylesocks, on 04/09/2008, -4/+12This looks amazing but why SUSE? I will likely buy one and put Fedora or Ubuntu on it. Other than that this machine looks perfect.
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -0/+8wheres that 8.9" EEE without the ugly bezel?
- muniak, on 04/09/2008, -3/+11They have, the lowest eeePC is less than 200.
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -0/+7no, the cheapest eeePC (the 2G surf) is $299 retail. Still about $100 over.
maybe there are a few used on eBay or something, but that's not what I'm talking about. - ijacker, on 04/09/2008, -1/+8stop buying weed ;)
- phenolholic, on 04/09/2008, -1/+8if you've been waiting for months, why would you be broke? stop smoking pot and you'd have one
- FapCommander, on 04/09/2008, -2/+9It's the first sub-notebook I've seen that actually looks good
- supermanred, on 04/09/2008, -0/+7And do what? Attempt to install Windows on it? That thing would become COMPLETELY useless rather than MOSTLY useless with Windows hogging its already slim system resources.
- iofthestorm, on 04/09/2008, -1/+8Your comment is redundant.
- muppethouse, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6The keyboard on the Sun workstations has a little diamond on the "super" key.
- krische, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6Its funny they put a windows logo key on their. I mean it is running linux, and they are still paying Microsoft for that key.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_key#Licensing - specialK16, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6Double fail failed double?
- unrealmp3, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6Can we replace the Windows Key with a broken window instead ?
- srg13, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6He's saying that the hardware would be so low spec, that with Linux you would be able to actually use it, whereas with Windows it would be so slow that it would be about as useful as a brick.
- famousdave, on 04/09/2008, -1/+7This is why I love Digg.
- Aleman360, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6This one is 92% full size.
- >mark, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6I bet you can even stick it in an envelope
- MasterThief117, on 04/09/2008, -2/+7"it is still very affordable, with base models starting at $499..."
I don't know about most diggers here, but I do not have a spare 500 dollars laying around. - Kazbaeden, on 04/09/2008, -0/+5It's because you can get it with Windows too.
- Hermmunster, on 04/09/2008, -0/+5They underpowered the linux laptop for some reason. Models equal in power should be offered with each OS. The only other drawback is that it costs so much. $499.99 is a lot of money for such a book, especially when you consider you can buy a newer multi-core Acer for about the same price (+-100 to 200). It doesn't seem worth it. If they reduced the price to $399 I would buy it.
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -2/+6But will it blend?
- supermanred, on 04/09/2008, -1/+5Stop complaining, it comes loaded for free. Just install it yourself.
- Roger, on 04/09/2008, -2/+6Redundant redundancy is redundantly redundant.
- mrno, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4OpenSue is the easiest distro, but also the slowest Linux distro ever made. It will crawl like Vista on this machine.
- greenlight2001, on 04/09/2008, -1/+5Complain complain... it's all you ever do!
- charlie763, on 04/09/2008, -1/+5Anyone have a source for this? Sounds interesting.
- pjmalone, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3i got used ti the Asus keyboard in about a day of usage and I have pretty large hands ... The main issue i have with the Asus is the screen size. Apart from that I find the Asus to be a great little machine which i recently used on a 3 week trip to Thailand and i didn't miss lugging around my 17" macbook pro at all ;)
