- lava, on 10/10/2007, -1/+90this story has to do with Goobuntu! DUGG!
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -6/+72I agree. It's very bad that Digg has items reach the front page even though everyone know/should know that they are false.
- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -6/+63What's a google fanboy? You search random strings in your free time? /sarcasm
- baalzebub, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52i can digg not digging it...
- JimReaper, on 10/10/2007, -6/+38Altogether now: "Oh, if you want it to be possessive it's just "I-T-S", but if it's supposed to be a contraction then it's I-T apostrophe S! ... scalawag."
http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Strong_Bad - hcetrepus, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21So, when it coming out?
- MeneerR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16It isn't stated as a wish. It's stated as a fact. So, its a LIE on the FRONTPAGE.
Digg is getting just as bad as an ordinary newspaper.. - Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15apps?
no
search?
no
IM?
no
everything that google has can allready be done on linux
no point in a google os - mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Did you seriously just do that?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12From the article: "Goobuntu is on every one's most wanted list from Google"
It sure as hell isn't on mine. I'm not sure if I should mark this inaccurate or not. - krelian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Read in a robotic fanboy voice:
Story has "Ubuntu" and "Google", must digg. Resistance is futile. - argos42, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12digged for telling me not to digg
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I don't want anything to become "the next windows". Choice is good, monopolies are bad.
- HUKI365, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You mean....slashdot?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12I guess this story confirms it: Google is releasing Goobuntu.
- blackfox026, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8no doubt
- Ngai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8this comment system is so ***** up...
- rulus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8You know, there's that key, it's called Enter..
- ViciousDotOrg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Does it exist? YES. INTERNALLY. FREAKING READ DAMN IT.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Well they could bundle things like Google Earth, Picasa, gTalk by default in gaim, desktop search. They could have a much better integration with Google services, things like being able to access googledocs as a local Filesystem and such, no configuration for gmail on local email. Basic desktop settings could be kept online in you google account, and basicly try and bridge the gap between online applications and desktop applications.
Remember, they can also contribute new code and sponsor program (well they do already, they sponsor LinuxBIOS afaik and there Google Summer of Code) but they could actually start putting people onto desktop Linux projects. - schalicto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6But Goobuntu is so much fun to say!
- ZPWeeks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5But it's community-driven. So we have nobody but ourselves to blame. (and this article might do something about it, no?
To me the Digging of such inaccurate crap is a sign that the "glory days" of Digg are over. The idiots have come. - mahler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No Diggity!
- honesttussey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5goobuntu will never be released publicly. It's an internal build they use to run their computers. I have friends that work there. :-D
- bamboo7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't know what paper you read but digg is far, far worse than any newspaper I've ever seen. Everything here is stated as fact. Even though its generally from a persons blog.Digg should not be considered a news site but more of a stumble upon site.
- RandaII, on 10/10/2007, -11/+15I'm getting sic of the unbuntu fan boys as well
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4HE DIDNT HAVE TO DO ANY RESEARCH BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY KNOWN
AND YOU DONT NEED TO USE EXCESS CURSE WORDS TO PROVE A POINT
THERE WAS SPECULATION BUT ITS KNOWN THE OS IS INTERNAL
SO THE SPECULATION ISN'T CURRENT SO YOUR DIGGING OLD NEWS
AND THIS ISNT SOME FUNNY PICTURE FROM LAST YEAR
THIS IS LIKE DIGGING THE RELEASE OF FIREFOX 2 WHEN FIREFOX 2 WAS RELEASED MONTHS AGO
ITS OLD NEWS - hmunkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Then why is religion on the front page so often?
- chess007, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Come on google. Give the people what they want. :)
- livejamie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5What's with your awful attitude? It is real.
Chris DiBona, the Open Source Programs Manager for Google confirmed it on Slashdot: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?cid=14609148&sid=175746&tid=217
There's also a screenshot of the login screen on Flickr:

You would be correct in saying they're not releasing it to the public, though. - judsond, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You mean the new york times... No thanks.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+3We know, it was covered a few comments ago. Thanks anyway.
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That looks real? Are you ***** high?
- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Though if you actually think about it, they aren't in the habit of admitting what they are planning. They just release it about a week or two after putting the rumour out. I will never believe that Goobuntu won't be released because I remember when people didn't believe Gmail was coming, either. Google is capable of anything.
- deviantsteve, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Build the hype then maybe they will release it.
- pig13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"snorglorf wants goobuntu"
That's just awesome to say to anyone. - gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Off topic, but why the ***** am I able to see posts from a user I blocked? I don't want to see "you have blocked shestowitz." I don't want to see his comment at all! I don't even want to see it in the list of comments folded as if I had already buried it. No, I just want the comment to not exist on my page. Why, digg, why do you have to show me users I blocked?
- allywilson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Intelligent reply?
1) first time I laughed all day - did not expect that comment :-)
2) blah blah blah
3) There's always a 3rd point. - trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It doesn't work in text http://www.hrwiki.org/mirror/sb_itsits.mp3
- Empire666, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Goobuntu does exist but its for google employees currrenty
- pig13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, I run Ubuntu at home actually. I still think that google could have more influence on software developers than canonical.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you do know that your going on a discussion about an old os that isnt even publicly released....
- Philluminati, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well firstly, I didn't know it was such an old article. It's the first time I saw it. Loads of old photos and news articles get submitted. Some are cool and some aren't. Just because you've seen it before doesn't mean I shouldn't digg it. I found it interesting and as far as I could tell it was still relevant. Man last weeks newpaper may still be interesting and worthy of reading. Not all articles go out of date in seconds. This is one of the ones thats still relevent today. So don't say "you shouldn't digg this because it's old" because it's not strictly that black and white.
I'd like my apology when your ready... - Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yes
the makers of that buntu part
as in
UBUNTU
as in the playdo linux
that can be used by beginers and pros.... - OsakaWilson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I only dugg this because it says Goobuntu in the title.
- SKick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anal, uptight geek? You mean somebody who is so disturbed by the choice of other Digg users that they create an article solely intended to proclaim the injustice of it all? No, that's not being anal, or even uptight. It's closer to being *****, and so glued to their ***** chairs that they forget there is an outside world, with outside problems that extend a little farther than "those Digg ***** are digging old articles!" QQ
- Anub1s, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3You, sir are a dumb ass. Why are you ranting about your idiocy being called out? You need to look at FACTS and RESEARCH before you decide to hit the submit button and forever label yourself as a retard champion of the internet. Speculation isn't news, it's annoying, pointless, and cluters up the front page with useless crap.
- Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"I think a google OS would be good, not so they could become the next monopoly, but so a large company with money and influence can get behind a Linux distro and finally resolve some of the problems with Linux. Maybe a google Linux build would encourage developers to release more software with native Linux ports, or make some decent drivers."
ever hear of canonical? -
