- trogdoor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+48Neither the Gimp nor the Photoshop examples look like real chocolate.
- nesibus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+46This is the kind of crap that makes it to the front page?
A bevel effect....I'm about to go submit my story....how to boil water, in 20 easy steps. - joelav22, on 10/11/2007, -11/+32As usual - commercial software = 5 steps (http://creativebits.org/photoshop/chocolate_in_photoshop)
Linux = 28 steps
(before you digg this down as anti linux, I'm on linux right now) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22not only that, but who wastes their time photoshopping chocolate bars? just go buy a real one and take a picture of it. better yet, you also get to EAT the thing...
- hockey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Link?
- matthewf01, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15it's got that nice.... windows 95 tiled wallpaper look to it.
- tradwolley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Somehow this tutorial is just not the same without the pictures.
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13How about combining it with a previous tutotrial and making a spinning chocolate sphere? :-)
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9"Add new layer below the layer with bevel effect ( Cmd/Ctrl + click on new layer icon at the bottom of layers palette). Fill this layer with brown color - #764A39. Select layer with bevel effect and apply Filter – Gaussian Blur with radius: 5. After this step you should see your chocolate. If you wish you can scale down layer with bevel effect 10px from each edge and then apply bevel effect on layer below with settings: Depth: 1000%, Size: 10px. You don’t need to scale if you already have modified selection border by 10px.
Adjust levels and save the file as .psd because of experiments we are going to perform now."
That is one hell of a step. - ericsnels, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13linux from Poland

very shiny linux - mishsquish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Haven't seen the GIMP one, but the Photoshop one makes me want to hug Adobe and tell them everything will be alright. There ARE people that use their product for better things out there...
- justice7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10yeah i just made an Oh Henry bar in Gimp ........ or a piece of turd. You decide.
- bsboard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Chocolate Bar in 1 STEP!!
Step 1: Follow directions at: http://creativebits.org/photoshop/chocolate_in_photoshop - StudsTurkel, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12@merc, your .sig is useless and wasting space on my screen, please stop using it. But I agree that Paint.net is a viable alternative to GIMP.
- hello2usir, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Self-portrait?
- Mejogid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Well... maybe someone who wants to learn how to use the Gimp? (I refuse to capitalise stupid acronyms)
- lcstein, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Mirror this biatch!
- joaob, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Stop your whining. You're a grown man.
- Otto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Mirror with pictures:

http://polishlinux.org/apps/graphics/gimp-tricks-rotating-sphere-with-gap/
:) - LLLSecretChimp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6They taste even less like real chocolate.
- johnnykwest, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yeah, but just trying drawing nougat. That's a *real* bitch...
- michuk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Maybe some people just want to learn GIMP and this article helps them to?
- regeya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yeah, GIMP is, uh, different. And it lacks a lot of the niceties (a LOT of them) that Photoshop has. And Scribus is probably more intuitive if you're an old PageMaker user, but I've only used QuarkXPress for page layout and Multi-Ad Creator for ad layout. OTOH once you become one with Scribus's way of doing things it's almost fun to use.
If you've ever used Photoshop 3, though, The GIMP makes a lot more sense. - JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It's because we hate Republicans. =P
- bmig, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Why is this important? There thousands of much better photoshopgimp tutorials out there.
lame. - aAnaRchY, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6" Paint.NET is free image editing and photo manipulation software for computers that run Windows"
GIMP can run on every major Operating System. So, you can't compare GIMP to Paint.NET because Paint.NET it's can't work on my PC! - loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4wow anyone can make a choclate bar on computer!
- crxvfr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4....almonds?
- Toast1185, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It would have to be using either an open source or free ware pot and water
- acejones, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3linux sausage
- JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You changed your icon from the GOP elephant to that? Did you take my comment above seriously? Dude, go make friends. I've submitted like 100 or 200 things to Digg and I think 4 made the front page. I'm not frustrated anymore. I'm just happy that a few people can take a look at what I think is an interesting story.
- michuk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Steps are relative. It could be put in 10 steps as well. Would it make you create this image faster?
- FastZ, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7So creating one in Photoshop or GIMP that looks like complete ass is a better alternative?
- jtb4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't care what ya'll say- I thought it was cool and I haven't seen your tutorials anywhere to compare BTW. Dugg
- br0ck, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Are you sure about that? http://code.google.com/p/paint-mono/
- noerrorsfound, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Step 1: Create chocolate bar with The GIMP.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit! - arbulus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Gimp is really hard to use. i was trying to work on a comic cover in gimp + scribus this past weekend and got so damned frustrated that I gave up. I can do the same thing in Photoshop + InDesign in 20-30 minutes. Maybe it's just simply a matter of learning a new app, i dunno, but Gimp is nowhere near as intuitive as Photoshop. I really hate this situation too, because I really want to move full time to running Ubuntu, but I can't because I can't use the damned graphics programs. That is, unless someone can get Adobe CS3 to run under Wine or Crossover.
- ChayD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You should try Instructables lol. Can't really bitch about it too much as there are actually some useful things on there, if you're prepared to sift through all the 'how to squeeze a lemon' and 'how to build [yet another f**king] k'nex gun' tutorials.
- Mongolai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yea, the gimp has a redonkulous learning-curve, and the UI is absolutely broken, but it's an awesome piece of software nonetheless.
You're right about Paint.NET though. I just tried it out the other day and was amazed with its design. It has ~90% of the functionality of "pro-grade" (*ahem*) image editors and it somehow maintains a sane and coherent consistency that makes it very simple to use.
I can hardly wait until it's supported by mono. - getsk3wled, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3you contradict yourself. "quite easy.....28 steps."
- mikembm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Can't find a mirror but here is the one done in photoshop (I imagine the GIMP one looks similar)
http://creativebits.org/photoshop/chocolate_in_photoshop
Doesn't look real at all. - michuk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3joelav22: it all depends how you cout the steps. This guide is very detailed. You could probably put it in 10 steps or even fewer. It's the time necessary to create the image, not the number of steps! Try creating the same thing in Photoshop and GIMP and (provided that you don't know these programs) this will be some indication on the user-freindliness of both solutions. Otherwise -- you can say whatever you want but it will be mostly *****.
- DoMifer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That chocolate doesn't make my mouth water. In fact, it does the opposite. I just ran out of saliva. My tongue feels like sandpaper! I HATE YOU, GIMP CHOCOLATE BAR!!!
- thirdplanet, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4This sucks. I made buttons for my website in 1996 that looked better than that *****.
- vulapine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Indeed. I had my leather mask and leash ready to go.
Ah wants muh choklet! - PRlME, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2you fix the lighting in photoshop yea real thing would always be better
- ZenMasterJG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Have you been licking your monitor again, LLLSecretChimp?
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Making chocolate melt using strobes that fire for literally a couple of milliseconds is harder than YOU think. Freeze the chocolate, keep the room relatively cool, and shoot all you want. Continuous lighting is really only used when you're filming.
Continuous lighting doesn't work for still photography regardless of whether you're shooting chocolate or ice or something else...models aren't going to sit in front of a studio lamp for two hours. They'll start sweating and ruin your photos. My "bargain" 500W studio lamp makes people sweat after a couple of minutes. - lamalex, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Why does this have over 300 diggs? Just because it mentions gimp? It looks like *****, so does the photoshop one. This isn't news. It's stupid.
