- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Everyone STOP USING IT RIGHT NOW so I can try it out.
- DoraLives, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now of course there's no chance in hell that this thing is some kind of trial baloon, secretly owned/controlled by Google just to kinda test the water ... right?
Adjusts tinfoil had for better reception. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's damn fast too...seems about as fast as being on the same network and its on the internet. This could be quite useful.
Looks like we digged it to death though at the moment. You can still sign up and create an account and try it later though. - caluml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now **this** is more what I expect Google to do rather than apps running locally in browsers, etc. There is a Java X applet (www.jcraft.com/weirdx/) which they could embed in a webpage that connects back to their KDE Remote Desktop server farms. Or something.
- amishjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im on a mac and it wont work E I E I O
- Tufriast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now that this dude scooped Google's plan, and put it on the web, I can fully see him being bought out by Google. M$ is pondering this idea, but the problem is that Windows is so ***** insecure, it'd be a miracle for them to be able to operate it.
Citrix is ***** for this kind of work, so I don't really want to hear any "Citrix is the win!" malarky. Also, it costs money to purchase Citrix, and there are licenses, etc.
This dude is doing it right, and well - all computers will operate this way soon. .Mac will, Google will, and last but certainly least - M$ will.
And yeah, screw the Winblows desktop. Gates can suck it. - schrags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Reached the Maximum number of concurrent sessions on this server". Other than being loaded, it seems pretty cool.
- vranghel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1people aren't as dumb as you think, pinc. It does NOT work now
- termal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty neat if they can cope with the load. It uses NoMachine/FreeNX which is really good (I use it to get remote access to my own linux box so already had it installed).
- zerovertex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'll let you register, but after it connects to the NX server, it disconnects claiming too many connections. Time for them to upgrade.... Wonder how they are making money off this? Or do they just hope to be bought by google?
- renehasp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Didnt work. ;( does any one know of any other services.
- rmccabe916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does "connection timed out" mean the same as too many connections. I get past authentication and then I get that message. Here is what the detail button gets me:

- rhnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Screenshots at http://mirror.becauseitspossible.com/nx/
The server is faster now!! - jrkagan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Refuses to work on my Mac (OS X 10.4.2) because it "cannot create the X authorization cookie."
- gModo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sounds cool, crazy how they can offer stuff like this for free
p.s. theres no sig on the comments for a reason - rhnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks cool, can;t wait until the server is no longer full.
- zerovertex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Still having trouble connection myself. Wish they would hurry up and put up a forum. Anyone know of an existing discussion forum on this topic?
- pdkrocul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NX gets to "Setting up the X environment" then nothing. I don't see any net traffic. Maybe later.
- EliGottlieb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great, so Digg now has its very own version of the Slashdot Effect.
This is pretty cool, but I don't see much need for what amounts 1GB remote storage space with software. I'm perfectly willing to forgo use of my personal data when I go... oh screw it. I'm signing up so I can kernel hack from anywhere. - comradevik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1its overloaded because its on digg
- Krozgen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not hard to get it to work, the instructions on their site are very simple to understand, and even have pretty screen shots :)
As to the server overload, yes, it is possible that Digg had some part in killing it - but I wouldn't say all of it. Such a service as this could not possibly be held by a non-profit organization unless, as a few people pointed out, Google was a potential customer (or it was a testing field, you paranoid phreak :-P)
Definitely hoping to connect some time soon to check it out; it's like a shell on steriods, hehe. - jawsomemax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0seems like a great idea in theory. I can't wait until I can try this out.
- ssn_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh it would be so cool to test it, but i think this digg post gave the servers a bit to much love ;)
- cipnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is something the guy can boast about forever, because this 'workspace' idea has to be picked up by big companies one day. makes me wonder where he'll end up.
rofl @ "im on a mac and it wont work E I E I O" - Pharoah6905, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i guess it even works with ps2 cause they have an installer for it...
- Presentlight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well authentication was successful. Problem: The server is maxed out.
- ELWOOD_BLUES, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Dugg to Death"
- tim76844, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldn't trust any site with critical data when they can't even spell correctly. From their home page.. "edit your emails, office documents, calander". "Calander", come on now!
- hollywoodcole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty cool, but anyone can setup there on terminal server With NoMachine, or FreeNx for open source.
You still got my digg thou! - Hoohoonick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It works, though it keeps giving me server maxed out.
You can connect to it with putty and use the command line shell though! Doesn't give you "max connections reached" on that. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
connection time out here.. i had to change port to 448 from 22 and then authentication worked for some reason... anyways too many connections.. so it's timing out... boohoo... - rhnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It finally let me in! Will post screenshots.
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Connection timeout... oh well.
- grouge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, come on Google, buy it so it works and I can have a play
- kdehead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm getting a connection, but then "authentication failure"... too many people registering?
- spinesplitter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all you digg freaks need to stop ruining the services i use, i've known about this but now its been rendered unusable i bet if schrags really used it he wouldnt have dugg it.
- jamieb22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey... cosmopod have upgraded their servers. seems unbelievably responsive now!
- EliGottlieb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well, I've resisted the impulse to sign up. Kudos to me.
- [Lep], on 10/12/2007, -4/+3There is no such thing as the digg effect. The maximum number of users was reached before this was even posted on digg. Stop commenting on every ***** article saying "omfg teh digg effect is in effect =)))". You all act as if digg is the biggest thing on the internet and all of the stories hit digg first.
- Hostile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's giving me Authentication Failed for
- rmccabe916, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks cool. But I CANNOT get it to work!!!!!
- sn0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1shoots me a error sayin "Unable to create the X authorization cookie." then proceeds to 'Setting up the X environment' for about.. well.. its still goin.. LoL..

However, not accepting new signups. Anyone already have an account? - Leonffs, on 11/20/2009, -2/+1digg effect =)
- leetsauce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They're going to load a bunch of ads onto your desktop.
- sn0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0nevermind, was my mistake.. working now.. servers just full..
~rob douglas
http://sn0n.com/ - mikeroq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1i ***** hate digg, i used to like it but its too ***** bigg and we crash all the ***** servers
- pinc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0actually, yes they are dumb, because it works fine for me...
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0SUTF U MUST, everyone stop sitting on your fat asses and get off this damn cosmo pod, i bet your not even using it. STOP MINMIZING FIREFOX AND CLOSE THE DAMN TAB, OTHER PPL ARE NTO FAT AND LAZY LIKE YOU AND ARE ACTIVE.
What is Digg?
