    I completely borked my file system one time, and Knoppix enabled me to get it back up and running.
  • Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0knoppix is great for quick testing, recovery, repair, and other quick light things. Great because it is a full OS and is made to run from a CD. Most other live disks are basically just CD previews that run slowly.
  • spewn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0personally i use a slax cd to fix my linux boxes..as travelling around frequently from computer to computer, I can't always fit a full size cd into my pockets...

    the whole concept of live cds is a strong point of free software, as the popularity of live cds increases for various different tasks...I wonder what microsoft will create to combat or compete with live cds..

  • mailman-zero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a great article for anyone trying to fix their b0rked boxen. You don't need to use Knoppix to find these instructions useful, they're good on any livecd or over the network connection you can use that has those tools installed.

    I dugg just for the info on dd_rescue. I'd never heard of it before, but you can bet that one will get used.
