- Dankoozy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11damn it feels as if I installed Fedora 7 only yesterday.
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Fedora 8 Test 3 >> OpenSUSE 10.03, even at test phase.
Fedora is freer than many other distributions, including Ubuntu. - willrad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7NetworkManager 0.7 is in Test3. It's a little wonky but totally The Future Of Awesome. Current NM 0.7 status is discussed here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/ ...

You also have to realize the ShipIt probably costs a lot of money...and Fedora is not backed by a billionaire. - jdhore1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Linux is all about what you prefer and choice. "Don't like Ubuntu? Try something else." It's not like with Windows where it's basically like: "Don't like Windows? HAHA! You've got no choice!" ...Different software that's similar (see openbox, fluxbox, etc and Guake, Tilde, YaKuake, etc) is what the open-source movement is all about. A guy who knows coding can not like the way an app or a distro works and quite easily modify it and change things to make it work they way they want it to work and they think some other people might like and release it. For Example, Judd Vinet (the founder of ArchLinux) couldn't find any lightweight, KISS, binary-based distro with decent package repos and decent dependency management...so he decided to make ArchLinux...and it got popular and now i'd say probably at least 10,000 people use it because 1 guy didn't like the way things were being done and changed them.
- centauri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5What do you mean by flaky crap? I run fedora on all my production boxes, including my server. And i've had really good luck with it. Not to say you havent, but being as specific about flaky crap as you are,...
- centauri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm excited to see 8 come out. Too bad KDE4 wont make it into the final of 8. Oh well, only another 6 months to wait till 9, or you can always go to the testing branch, which is fairly stable, I'd say considerably more stable than a certain OS we all love to hate :D
- celticeric, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I feel like I hardly get to know the OS before it's time to upgrade.
- centauri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe i'm too used to having/knowing people with broadband access, but isnt that what bittorrent is for?
- ungamedplayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No, its not pointless or baseless.
Fedora doesn't include linux-restricted-modules which are not distributed under the GPL and are possibly illegal (http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/blog/2006/08/why_b ... ). It also doesn't include firmware or binary blobs which are not explicitly licensed for redistribution.. I'm also not 100% sure, but I believe the base distribution of Ubuntu also ships the 3rd party binary drivers for ATI and NVIDIA cards.
Most people dont care or even know about the legal situation of this, but it seems that the ubuntu kids are willing to compromise their freedoms. I guess "Just make it work" is their motto, without the free(dom) part of Ubuntu, it would be just another Windows. - init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The differences between the Fedora versions are not that great. It's not like you have to relearn everything.
- ungamedplayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And, i'm not sure its worth creating a bunch of burned CD's for distribution for test releases.
- ungamedplayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't care about his angle, or why you install things. I just answered your question. Perhaps you replied to the wrong thread.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Wipe and reload. Lather, rinse, repeat.
- ungamedplayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did you expect anything less from digg trolls. I bet he never even submitted a useful bugzilla report.

- ungamedplayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sleep instead of wasting my bandwidth.
- anshuman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1nice to see no one enthusiastic about this distro as they are with other distro... yay, i feel special :D
/sorry . couldn't resists :) - KloroFormd, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I really DID just install Fedora 7 yesterday... and quickly learned the Atheros chipset isn't able to connect to the internet from the Live CD install. It wouldn't be much of a problem if I had access to the router to run a temporary cable, but that's not the case.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1"More free" is a value judgment, one that I could care less about. The first thing I do after I install Linux is to install all that "evil" crap that makes it actually useful. That alone makes Fedora better than what? And notice ***** specifically used SuSE, because he's pushing the "Novell is evil and it will kill your children if you use it" party line very hard.
- jshabad00, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4true, but is it better than 10.3?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3Are you saying that because of your psychotic hatred of Novell, or is there some other reason for your pointless and baseless assertion?
- nkwell, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1yawn..
- vonskippy, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3So did they fix any of the flaky crap in 7 (and 6 and 5), or did they spend all their time on useless new features and different (but equally useless) eye candy?
- PakSiw, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1one thing negative is their distribution scheme for free media. unlike ubuntu where you can request for CDs any number of times.
- skyscape, on 10/10/2007, -15/+3so many linux flavors, no wonder people dont want to switch from windows. just stick with one flavor and perfect it
