- jkeating, on 11/25/2008, -1/+24I made this!
- pacorro, on 11/25/2008, -3/+22The best linux distro
- Auzy, on 11/26/2008, -1/+18I've been a big supporter of Ubuntu traditionally, (I'm one of the top contributor of ideas on Ubuntu brainstorm), and all I can say, is that I tried Fedora this morning, and it seems to be doing everything correct.
- I'd feel safe deploying it on large networks (LDAP support in ubuntu is still almost non-existent)
- Encryption is spot on
- Even the first impression (liveCD grub screen) makes you want to believe its better then even OSX in user friendliness.
There is no doubt about it. Fedora is miles ahead of ubuntu and every other distro I have tried. In fact, the only problem remains that there aren't many commercial software developers available (and the lack of them means no video editing tools, etc), otherwise, I would definatively say its a better choice for home users then windows.
It even has the latest version of eclipse in the repos, ext4, and systemtap support (like dtrace). Its the first linux distro I've seen for ages that I believe may be competitive enough with other operating systems to stand a chance, and provided they can clear up the last few dodgy areas, linux may have a chance. Ubuntu still only has a very outdated version of eclipse in the repos, and they aren't contributing to systemtap at all (yet acknowledge that they wont support dtrace), making things difficult.
Also, the community is much better too. I found the ubuntu community cares more about an OS that runs on a 500mhz computer, then a good experience out of the box (which is rediculous). Unfortunately, they get too much of the debian crowd who believe CLI is still better. And this seems to scare developers away from ubuntu (which is a pity).
I should also add that since they have a proper server package too, that many businesses may actually accept using redhat for their server. Ubuntu they refused, because nobody wants a server where if the admin quits their job, its a nightmare for the new admin to work out the configuration of the server (Ubuntu server is basically a minimal Ubuntu client). And even if they do, its not easy to get ldap and all that working on Ubuntu
Its not ubuntu's fault, they just need time to improve (and improve their release methods, as they knowingly released kubuntu with broken bluetooth for instance), but, I can say I was truly amazed by fedora 10 - Morcaradhras, on 11/25/2008, -2/+18I'm downloading it right now screw windows vista!
- valent, on 11/25/2008, -2/+16I beta tested this, and it looks like best Fedora yet!
- anonobomber, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13Ooh look at the pretty animated graphical boot!
- jaymeayres, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13Biggest, Beautiful and Best Linux distro!!
- bngsudheer, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13Congrats to the Fedora community. I'm torrenting it now.
- allenhalsey, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13Best linux yet. Congratulations to the Fedora community!
- ssam, on 11/25/2008, -0/+12congrats.
- mmcgrath, on 11/26/2008, -0/+8Strange that you used a phrase "breaks and screws up constantly" for an operating system that was released less then 24 hours ago.
Even stranger that you say updates are slow for an operating system on release day. Might I suggest that the mirrors are busy? Or even better might I suggest that you just trolled and didn't even download Fedora but made some comments similar to something you read 3 or 4 years ago? - kkmageshcse, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8i was waiting for this
- Shadowman, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Looks like a great release. Fedora 10 will probably go to the Linux Hall of Fame.
Although I'm a little disappointed the Echo icon theme is still not the default. - advix, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6Two years back in time I dualbooted Win XP and Ubuntu, considered the best option. Now I dualboot Ubuntu and Fedora for same reason.
- javaroast, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5Of course that can be spun any way you want it....

Numbers don't lie. Unbuntu needs more support.
The reality of the situation is because of it's Red Hat lineage Fedora is very well supported. Ubuntu is very well supported. And both are very good choices. - rodrigo74, on 11/26/2008, -1/+6Screenshots or it didn't happen.
- cougar618, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5And I'll uninstall Ubuntu.. just as soon as fglrx works :D
- RandaII, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4Fedora has great support too. check out http://forums.fedoraforum.org
- Vadi0, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Congratulations to the Fedora team and everybody who made this.

- HorseloverFat8, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Whatever. Tortoises are way better.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Using it at the moment, Apart from usb drives not mounting sometimes same problem as 9, Its a very fast and very good linux distro and KDE 4.1 is even stable dare I say it.
- HorseloverFat8, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3What the ***** are you talking about? Have you ignored the entire post, and just come to your own conclusions that the only thing changed was the "colour scheme"? The colour scheme, incidentally, is exactly the same colour as Fedora 9. It's blue.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2I like blastoise.
- cyberpear, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2you do realize that apt isn't comparable to rpm. to make a fair comparison, you would have to compare apt to yum, or dpkg to rpm.
Additionally, you can use apt on fedora if you want. - amfantasy, on 11/26/2008, -2/+3I'm screwing windows vista will downloading it right now
- strangeman, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1First of all.. 100% ACK. I'm an Ubuntu user from Day One and I really liked testdriving Fedora. "Glitch-free" pulseaudio is a great improvement for the regular user (not so for audio pros.. they should stick to JACK). To my suprise it was done by fellow student of mine who now works for Red Hat.
I like the possibility to share Internet through networkmanager, too. But why on earth didn't they copy the 3G stuff from Ubuntu? In Ubuntu all provider you can think of are preconfigured and you have a nice 3G menu in NM. Also the internet sharing stuff only works when you have two distinct network interfaces. I'd have been great if they implemented the possibility to create virtual interfaces on the WiFi adapter.
Anyway.. I have to say there are still a lot of points that make me stick with Ubuntu (including package management) but I love the direction Fedora is going. - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1can this play any PC games??!
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1i want to name my child after you.
- KageSenshi, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1the 3G HSDPA thing been around since Fedora 9
- ceplm, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Try the native -ati driver -- it has been much much improved since ATI released documentation.
- HorseloverFat8, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1@mevans: You're the one who randomly claimed they changed the colour scheme, when in fact they did all. None of the changes that occurred had anything to do with the colour scheme. And no, I don't even have Fedora installed.
- mevans, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1The color scheme is the same? Yay. I was referring to the fact that every Linux distribution is exactly the same, they just change the color scheme and wallpaper.
Fedora fanboy are we? - Takuro, on 11/27/2008, -1/+1For those of you who don't feel like reading and care more about actual screen shots: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tours/Fedora10/Scre ...

Numbers don't lie. Ubuntu has greater support. - arvvvs, on 11/26/2008, -4/+2I got it, but my experience with it hasn't been great... Mainly thanks to being a GNOME User, and getting a KDE spin. I will admit that Ubuntu and networking isn't great. But the installation when compared to Ubuntu, sucks (Grub wouldn't recognize the other OS's I had installed). Ubiquity can get more than without constant restarts or download image to HD. But however I feel i may get a better experience out of the GNOME version cause I can use Gnome. But I do like Fedora's fixing up Sound, and getting ext4, and Package Kit, which is something that Ubuntu should do. But Fedora doesn't have that great a support group, something Ubuntu has, and it is a big flaw.
- eruanno, on 11/26/2008, -8/+2It's really unimpressive. The instant the installer finishes it's all downhill. No proprietary driver support. Packagekit is a joke, and breaks and screws up constantly. Updates are slow (yum and rpm are only matched in lousiness by packagekit...).
Even Intrepid Ibex is better than this. - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -12/+2So is this Ubuntu 8.11? Fedora doesn't sound like an Animal.
;) - mevans, on 11/26/2008, -13/+1Yay, another distribution that changed the color scheme and wallpaper and nothing else. Why can't the Linux community just get together and produce one damn distribution?
- CDNhammer, on 11/26/2008, -12/+0Nerds.
- dogparade, on 11/26/2008, -15/+2same ***** different wallpaper
