- jbrevik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When Edgy was released I decided to update from Dapper using update manager. A few hours later I checked to see if the update had finished but only a couple of pop-ups appeared. Something to do with mysql configuration and clicked "OK". Then the update manager crashed and the system was never updated. Not only was Ubuntu NOT updated, it was NOT functional. Luckily I had a backup of my files and did a clean install of Edgy.
- orbvsterrarvm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's really pretty simple... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/upgrading-ubuntu-from-dapper-to-edgy-with-update-manager/
You are mostly just running update-manager -c -d and then follow along.
If you try and use the apt-get method, you might run into problems. - hotani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Granted, Edgy was released as a "Test Platform" and Dapper will remain the LTS release for at least another year. Problems are to be expected, but that doesn't make them any less irritating to be sure.
My dual core box would not boot with the new kernel, and I was forced to use one that had no support for both CPUs. Not only that, it caused a heap of other problems. Once a fix was found for the new generic kernel all was golden. Edgy really is a nice release, but go in expecting trouble. If you want to make it easier on yourself, do a clean install rather than an update. - samanathon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I had to go back to XP. I realized that I was spending more time getting Linux to work then me getting any work done. :(
