- ptFoe, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5PCLinuxOS stats are so rigged on Distrowatch.
It doesn't even registered on Google trends graph.
Not to mention a retarded name for an OS. - saturn5, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3PCLinuxOS is a stupid name. But "ooboontoo" isn't much better. Or Mandriva. Linux Mint - something you eat after dinner? Mepis - sounds like a disease.
- weizbox, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Isn't that original tho?
Most people try to be creative with distro names... so this would be a deviation from that :) - weizbox, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1just shows you how reliable distrowatch is to gauge the popularity of distros.
It's a friggin page hit ranking system... obviously it's a bad example of distro popularity. Worst of all... it's only based on who's going to distrowatch.com/distro_name. Maybe some people might check it out for the first time they hear about the site.. but once you know the sites you need to go to for your distro.. you won't be going to distrowatch for anything much... and even if you do check out other distros on there, it doesn't mean that you'll be switch to that distro.. or even like it. - ptFoe, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1There is no originality or creativity behind PCLinuxOS.
- weizbox, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1sigh... Google Trends is no way to measure popularity. I use Gentoo, but I don't type 'Gentoo' into Google almost at all... I just go right to gentoo.org/gentoo-wiki.com/gentoo-portage.com, etc
I'm sure everyone who has found a great site for their distro, be it support/forums/wiki/package listing/howto, just go to the site directly without hitting up Google unless perhaps they are having a hard time getting what they want from the sites they know.
Take Google Trends with a grain of salt... it's not as much popularity as it is people using Google specifically(there are a lot of other search engines) to search for something... which generally means the searcher doesn't know of a place to get that type of information from. If anything I think digg shows how popular different topics are more than Google Trends ever could.
As well this shows trends on whats being searched for, but not necessarily liked or seen in a positive light by the searcher(aka, popular).

What is Digg?
